Tired of doing laundry in an unfinished rugged basement? These homeowner's were as well! They contacted Castle to help them with their basement planning and build for a finished laundry space and new bathroom with shower. After the designer and client walked through ideas to improve flow of space, we decided to eliminate the existing 1/2 bath in the family room, and move the new bathroom into the existing laundry room. The full laundry room was finished to include new walls, ceilings, new plumbing, new Adura luxury vinyl tile flooring, beautiful shaker style cabinetry with beadboard panel, Glossy white Cultured marble countertops, a new Blanco composite sink, and Kohler Bellera faucet. In the new bathroom space, we continued the Adura luxury vinyl flooring. Finishes in the bathroom include Kohler Memoirs pedestal sink, Kohler Archer faucet, custom hex tile shower floor, subway tile walls, and custom frameless glass shower enclosure. Additional improvements were made to improve the health of the home including asbestos tile abatement, new drain tile and sump pump, new spray foam insulation, new glass block window, and a new Panasonic bathroom fan. We also decided to save and restore some original pieces in the home like their existing 5-panel doors and repurposing one salvaged door into a pocket door for the new bathroom. The homeowner completed the basement finish with new carpeting in the family room. The whole basement feels fresh, new, and has a great flow. They will enjoy their happy and healthy home for years to come.

The footprint of the home was expanded with an addition extending from the rear wall of the kitchen. Decreasing the size of the existing pool deck allowed the remodeler to accommodate the addition and helped to improve the feel and flow of both the outdoor and indoor spaces. The metal roof on the addition was selected to provide visual interest by breaking up a vast wall of existing brick. Low-maintenance materials were chosen to provide ease of upkeep. Complementing the sunroom and screened porch, are a smaller open-air porch and pergola, which were designed to enhance the transition from the existing family room out to the pool area. Custom built-in bar and open dining area in a luxury high-rise condo renovation. The reconfigured floor plan improves flow between the kitchen, dining, and living spaces while maximizing storage and entertaining.

Through a collaboration with a local architect, we created a sleek, modern addition that stayed true to the original style and construction of the house. The clients, a busy family of five, wanted the addition to appear as if it had always belonged while simultaneously improving the flow and function of the home. Along with exterior addition, the kitchen was completely gutted and remodeled. The new kitchen design is a complex, full overlay, wood grain cabinet design that greatly improves storage for the bustling family and now provides them with a new dining room in which to entertain. Originally divided into two separate vanity rooms, we transformed this space into a functional and stylish Jack and Jill bathroom. By improving the flow between the girls’ rooms, we created a space that’s both practical and full of personality, featuring unique hardware and materials tailored to their tastes.

This kitchen was improved greatly by removing the wall which separated it from the adjacent family room. Once that wall was out of the picture, I was able to rework the layout and incorporate a nice-sized island for the clients. The custom cabinets were stained to match the coffered ceiling in the den and family room. The doorway to the dining room was also widened for better traffic flow. This kitchen is now the heart of their home and a hub for entertaining!

This colonial home renovation reimagines the original character of the house by adding a light-filled entry gallery overlooking the covered front porch. The revised circulation plan opens up the interior to frame views and improve the flow between spaces while maintaining the traditionally defined rooms throughout. New large-paned casement windows replace the modest double-hung units to enhance the scale of the exterior facade and streamline the architectural detailing. The arrival sequence is improved by relocating a brick-lined driveway southward to extend the lawn and allow boxwood clouds set in ground cover to frame new bluestone walks. In the remodeled kitchen, the homeowners asked for an "unfitted" or somewhat eclectic and casual New England style. To improve the layout of the space, Neil Kelly Designer Robert Barham completely re-imagined the orientation, moving the refrigerator to a new wall and moving the range from the island to a wall. He also moved the doorway from the living room to a new location to improve the overall flow. Everything in this kitchen was replaced except for the newer appliances and the beautiful exposed wood beams in the ceiling. Highlights of the design include stunning hardwood flooring, a craftsman style island, the custom black range hood, and vintage brass cabinet pulls sourced by the homeowners.

The owners of this 1950s colonial on Philadelphia’s Main Line wanted to preserve its traditional architecture and take advantage of the kitchen’s ample footprint. In addition to reworking the floorplan and improving the flow, the owner wanted a large island with several seating options, a desk area and a small table for dining. One of the design goals was to transform the spacious room into a functional kitchen that still felt intimate and comfortable for everyday use. Furniture style inset cabinetry kept the room in tune with the home’s original character and made it feel less utilitarian. Removing the wall that hindered the flow and views between the kitchen and the adjacent family room ensured that the main entertaining areas flowed together. Stylistically, we wanted to avoid the typical white kitchen, opting instead to pull in rich wood tones to create a warmer and more classic look.

One of the most obvious changes was the removal of the peninsula, which was replaced with a beautiful new island. This design choice not only opened up the kitchen and improved traffic flow, but also provided for a cooktop to be incorporated into the island, freeing up some counter space where the stove used to be and allowing for additional cabinets.
