Originally divided into two separate vanity rooms, we transformed this space into a functional and stylish Jack and Jill bathroom. By improving the flow between the girls’ rooms, we created a space that’s both practical and full of personality, featuring unique hardware and materials tailored to their tastes.

Tired of doing laundry in an unfinished rugged basement? These homeowner's were as well! They contacted Castle to help them with their basement planning and build for a finished laundry space and new bathroom with shower. After the designer and client walked through ideas to improve flow of space, we decided to eliminate the existing 1/2 bath in the family room, and move the new bathroom into the existing laundry room. The full laundry room was finished to include new walls, ceilings, new plumbing, new Adura luxury vinyl tile flooring, beautiful shaker style cabinetry with beadboard panel, Glossy white Cultured marble countertops, a new Blanco composite sink, and Kohler Bellera faucet. In the new bathroom space, we continued the Adura luxury vinyl flooring. Finishes in the bathroom include Kohler Memoirs pedestal sink, Kohler Archer faucet, custom hex tile shower floor, subway tile walls, and custom frameless glass shower enclosure. Additional improvements were made to improve the health of the home including asbestos tile abatement, new drain tile and sump pump, new spray foam insulation, new glass block window, and a new Panasonic bathroom fan. We also decided to save and restore some original pieces in the home like their existing 5-panel doors and repurposing one salvaged door into a pocket door for the new bathroom. The homeowner completed the basement finish with new carpeting in the family room. The whole basement feels fresh, new, and has a great flow. They will enjoy their happy and healthy home for years to come.

This transformation centered on removing a partial brick wall to create a more open, connected living space. Eliminating the visual barrier allowed natural light to flow freely throughout the home, enhancing both brightness and spatial continuity. The updated layout now seamlessly connects the sitting area to adjacent rooms and outdoor views, creating a more functional and inviting environment. Clean lines, warm wood flooring, and a neutral palette establish a calm, modern foundation, while the addition of shoji-style sliding doors introduces a subtle Japanese-inspired design element. After the remodel, the kitchen is more open, with plenty of counter space and storage. It has a much-improved flow for daily activities, as well as for entertaining.

This kitchen was improved greatly by removing the wall which separated it from the adjacent family room. Once that wall was out of the picture, I was able to rework the layout and incorporate a nice-sized island for the clients. The custom cabinets were stained to match the coffered ceiling in the den and family room. The doorway to the dining room was also widened for better traffic flow. This kitchen is now the heart of their home and a hub for entertaining!

This Victorian styled house was in need of a major renovation. Every surface of the home was reimagined. The kitchen was small, long and narrow. It was closed off from the main living space and lacked access to the outdoors. In addition to scaling back some walls, we created a wrap-around deck from the dining room to the far side of the kitchen with entry points at each end. This created a connection to the outdoors, made the small kitchen feel more spacious, and vastly improved the flow.

For this Leslieville basement renovation, Carter Fox was given a big wish list. In order to fit an office, laundry, bathroom with large shower and a spacious entertainment room, we had to steal every available inch. In order to make this happen, we relocated the furnace and engineered a new opening, improving the layout and creating a more natural flow. Being an older (100+ years) house, we upgraded all the plumbing and installed a whole new energy-efficient HVAC system.

After removal of a wall separating the kitchen from the original dining room the space now flows from the kitchen to the new media room, formerly the dining room. The steel column is a "jacket" around the second floor bathroom waste pipe. Storage in the kitchen includes upper-upper cabinets for seasonal items. By a simple removal of a non-load bearing wall and the closing of two openings into the original kitchen the counter space and cabinet storage was tripled.

This colonial home renovation reimagines the original character of the house by adding a light-filled entry gallery overlooking the covered front porch. The revised circulation plan opens up the interior to frame views and improve the flow between spaces while maintaining the traditionally defined rooms throughout. The footprint of the home was expanded with an addition extending from the rear wall of the kitchen. Decreasing the size of the existing pool deck allowed the remodeler to accommodate the addition and helped to improve the feel and flow of both the outdoor and indoor spaces. The metal roof on the addition was selected to provide visual interest by breaking up a vast wall of existing brick. Low-maintenance materials were chosen to provide ease of upkeep. Complementing the sunroom and screened porch, are a smaller open-air porch and pergola, which were designed to enhance the transition from the existing family room out to the pool area. The SATO1 project was a 1000 square foot condo remodel. The focus of the project was on small home space planning. Designer Bethany Pearce / Van Hecke was challenged with creating solutions for a home office, baby's room as well as improved flow in dining/kitchen and living room.
