South Baton Rouge Kitchen Remodel:
If the kitchen space was a blank slate - how could it be designed to function best for the owners? Asking this question at the beginning and collaboration with the owner and designer that desired a beautiful end product was what contributed to the success of this project. We began with a center island cooktop that "cramped" the room for preparing meals and a relatively small refrigerator space. For an owner that loves to cook and entertain, we needed to increase the available space for cooking and food storage. In the end, we relocated the gas range to the side wall along with increasing the island size to allow room for meal preparation along with bar style seating for loved ones to "watch and test taste" while keeping good conversation close by the cook in action. We also were able to accommodate the owner's desire to increase the refrigerator/ freezer space without losing cabinet storage. Installing floor to ceiling cabinetry with accessory lighting gives this space the sense that good design and quality craftsmanship are necessary ingredients for another successful project by Spencer's Contracting.

Tasked with challenge of needing to provide increased storage and countertop space in this kitchen and not being able to remove the soffit on the range wall we leveraged an under utilized back wall which is where the new refrigerator resides.

Refacing this kitchen was the key to making the renovation affordable. We also moved the microwave from above the range to the island, installed a hood, enlarged the range to 36", increased the size of the island and removed a desk area/ replaced it with a beverage center topped by glass doors.

This kitchen was partially remodeled to free up counter space, increase daylight, and provide a simpler and less predictable look. Considering that the existing base cabinets, fridge, range, hood and dishwasher were all re-used, an amazing transformation took place.
Counter space was increased by removing two full-height cabinets and moving the microwave to the base cabinets. Removing a shelf above a window and a full-height cabinet that blocked light from sliding doors nearby let in more sunlight. Airier finishes reflect the increased light.
To simplify the look, fewer open cabinets were used. The original cherry paneled base cabinets were painted. New uppers were designed with slab doors, but with enough small details to relate the two styles, and provide a quieter look overall. The creamy white, taupe and pale gray-green palette provides whisper level interest. Travertine backsplash tile has a raked surface that suggests the neighborhood’s industrial past.

In this kitchen remodel, the white cabinets were done with IKEA Adel off white and a custom built island to match with 12" deep drawers from IKEA. The couters are Wilsonart Cararra marble with a double round over edge.. and they look incredibly real, yet super durable. The beadboard ceiling is Martha Stewart beadboard wallpaper that went right over the drywall and painted Behr "Aqua Breeze". The wals are Behr "Lightweight beige" and the flooring is Pergo Highland hickory. The farmhouse sink is also IKEA.
