Hoàng-Kim Cung, a beauty and lifestyle content creator from Dallas, Texas, enlisted our help to create a space that transcends conventional nursery design. As the daughter of Vietnamese political refugees and the first Vietnamese-American to compete at Miss USA, Hoàng-Kim's story is woven with resilience and cultural richness.

For this Japanese inspired, open plan concept, we removed the wall between the kitchen and formal dining room and extended the counter space to create a new floating peninsula with a custom made butcher block. Warm walnut upper cabinets and butcher block seating top contrast beautifully with the porcelain Neolith, ultra thin concrete-like countertop custom fabricated by Fox Marble. The custom Sozo Studio cabinets were designed to integrate all the appliances, cabinet lighting, handles, and an ultra smooth folding pantry called "Bento Box".

Asian influences blended with native plantings helped create this garden, which we call Prairie-fusion. Water is the main focus of the garden, which falls and flows creating both visual and audial impact. Colorful koi dot the dark waters which reflect light and landscape. Choices in construction material were made to enhance a rustic look while touches of Japanese-inspired influences were appropriately placed to introduce an exotic feel. In keeping with the traditional Japanese gardens, raked rocks and boulders simulate islands in water. While inspired by the East, the garden is rooted firmly in the Midwestern landscape, surrounded and softened by plants native to woodlands and wetlands, including ferns, sedges, wild columbine, blue flag iris, horsetail rush, water lilies and native maples. A ramp leading up to the decking combined both reclaimed railroad ties and gravel, tying in the two solid ground influences in the garden. Serenity in the Kitchen. When working with an open floor plan, it’s essential to tie in these spaces with the rest of the Home. The custom metal hood becomes the star of the show, and you can be sure that each time a visitor arrives, our homeowners are offering up home made cappuccinos from their built-in Miele coffee bar. With two dishwashers and two sinks, we have created "zones" in which to work in for prep work, cleaning, cooking and storage alike. Thermador Refrigerator and Freezer columns create a tall wall for the space and accentuate the high ceilings. The white custom shaker cabinets gave us the perfect tone to match the crown molding for the rest of the home. Soft and sophisticated bar stools play nicely against the stone countertops and Alder Wood island.

Although most transitional spaces use tans or vanilla colors, this one has many muted oranges, golds and pink colors in it which actually makes the room even more stunning, especially those throw pillows. The sputnik style chandelier is the hanging art those tall ceilings need and a little fur on the stools gives just the right amount of texture to soften and add movement.

For this Master Bath my client wanted a organic feeling to the space. The monochromatic color palette adds to the organic sophistication to the space. The quietly rippled wall tiles, completely integrated concrete counter top, indirect ceiling light and floating vanities add just the right softness to create the organic approach we were striving for! Coconut Grove is Southwest of Miami beach near coral gables and south of downtown. It’s a very lush and charming neighborhood. It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods and is protected historically. It hugs the shoreline of Biscayne Bay. The 10,000sft project was originally built 17 years ago and was purchased as a vacation home. Prior to the renovation the owners could not get past all the brown. He sails and they have a big extended family with 6 kids in between them. The clients wanted a comfortable and causal vibe where nothing is too precious. They wanted to be able to sit on anything in a bathing suit. KitchenLab interiors used lots of linen and indoor/outdoor fabrics to ensure durability. Much of the house is outside with a covered logia. The design doctor ordered the 1st prescription for the house- retooling but not gutting. The clients wanted to be living and functioning in the home by November 1st with permits the construction began in August. The KitchenLab Interiors (KLI) team began design in May so it was a tight timeline! KLI phased the project and did a partial renovation on all guest baths. They waited to do the master bath until May. The home includes 7 bathrooms + the master. All existing plumbing fixtures were Waterworks so KLI kept those along with some tile but brought in Tabarka tile. The designers wanted to bring in vintage hacienda Spanish with a small European influence- the opposite of Miami modern. One of the ways they were able to accomplish this was with terracotta flooring that has patina. KLI set out to create a boutique hotel where each bath is similar but different. Every detail was designed with the guest in mind- they even designed a place for suitcases.
