Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary deck remodel in Miami with no cover

Horizontal and vertical wood grid work wood boards is overlaid on an existing 1970s home and act architectural layers to the interior of the home providing privacy and shade. A pallet of three colors help to distinguish the layers. Located above the coast of Malibu, this two-story concrete and glass home is organized into a series of bands that hug the hillside and a central circulation spine. Living spaces are compressed between the retaining walls that hold back the earth and a series of glass facades facing the ocean and Santa Monica Bay. The name of the project stems from the physical and psychological protection provided by wearing reflective sunglasses. On the house the “glasses” allow for panoramic views of the ocean while also reflecting the landscape back onto the exterior face of the building. In this home a walk-in shower was added as well as a corner soaking tub for hydrotherapy. The wall tile is a large, wavy grey tone and the cabinetry grey shaker style. The hall bathroom was also upgraded with new vanity and top, LVP flooring and modern, non-institutional style grab bars. There were additional handrails added throughout the home so that the stairs could be used while holding on to two rails at one time. The front of the home received a paver walkway with dual handrails as well.

The stable structure consists of a light coated metal alloy foot and hand-molded ABS bowl seat. The cushion comes in quality cloth material.

For this Wychwood Park complete bathroom rebuild, Carter Fox was hired to create a functional, accessible bathroom that did not look institutional or boring. We opened up the original powder room/tub room layout, removing the interior doors to allow adequate space to maneuver, and created a wheelchair-accessible curbless shower room with a second sink (re-purposing the original) at bench height. Completed in 2015, this project incorporates a Scandinavian vibe to enhance the modern architecture and farmhouse details. The vision was to create a balanced and consistent design to reflect clean lines and subtle rustic details, which creates a calm sanctuary. The whole home is not based on a design aesthetic, but rather how someone wants to feel in a space, specifically the feeling of being cozy, calm, and clean. This home is an interpretation of modern design without focusing on one specific genre; it boasts a midcentury master bedroom, stark and minimal bathrooms, an office that doubles as a music den, and modern open concept on the first floor. It’s the winner of the 2017 design award from the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and has been on the Tribeza Home Tour; in addition to being published in numerous magazines such as on the cover of Austin Home as well as Dwell Magazine, the cover of Seasonal Living Magazine, Tribeza, Rue Daily, HGTV, Hunker Home, and other international publications. What is an ADU: Accessory Dwelling Units: An accessory dwelling unit, usually just called an ADU, is a secondary housing unit on a single-family residential lot. The term “accessory dwelling unit” is a institutional-sounding name, but it’s the most commonly-used term across the country to describe this type of housing. While the full name is a mouthful, the shorthand “ADU” is better. ADUs vary in their physical form quite a bit, as there are detached ADU, attached ADU, second story ADU (above garage or work shop), addition ADU, internal ADU. IMPORTANT: There’s simply too few permitted ADUs to make a real difference in the housing stock. But, even if they aren’t going to solve all a city’s problems, they may help homeowners solve some of their problems. The most common motivation for ADU development is rental income potential, followed by the prospect of flexible living space for multigenerational households.
