What began as a renovation project morphed into a new house, driven by the natural beauty of the site.
The new structures are perfectly aligned with the coastline, and take full advantage of the views of ocean, islands, and shoals. The location is within walking distance of town and its amenities, yet miles away in the privacy it affords. The house is nestled on a nicely wooded lot, giving the residence screening from the street, with an open meadow leading to the ocean on the rear of the lot.
The design concept was driven by the serenity of the site, enhanced by textures of trees, plantings, sand and shoreline. The newly constructed house sits quietly in a location advantageously positioned to take full advantage of natural light and solar orientations. The visual calm is enhanced by the natural material: stone, wood, and metal throughout the home.
The main structures are comprised of traditional New England forms, with modern connectors serving to unify the structures. Each building is equally suited for single floor living, if that future needs is ever necessary. Unique too is an underground connection between main house and an outbuilding.
With their flowing connections, no room is isolated or ignored; instead each reflects a different level of privacy and social interaction.
Just as there are layers to the exterior in beach, field, forest and oceans, the inside has a layered approach. Textures in wood, stone, and neutral colors combine with the warmth of linens, wools, and metals. Personality and character of the interiors and its furnishings are tailored to the client’s lifestyle. Rooms are arranged and organized in an intersection of public and private spaces. The quiet palette within reflects the nature outside, enhanced with artwork and accessories.

Behind the scenes, energy efficient technologies combine with low maintenance materials to create a home that is economical to maintain for years to come. This off-grid mountain barn home located in the heart of the Rockies sits at 7,500 feet and has expansive, beautiful views of the foothills below. The model is a Barn Pros 36 ft. x 36 ft. Denali barn apartment with a partially enclosed shed roof on one side for outdoor seating and entertainment area. The deck off the back of the building is smaller than the standard 12 ft. x 12 ft. deck included in the Denali package. Roll-up garage doors like the one shown at the front of the home are an add-on option for nearly any Barn Pros kit.
Inside, the finish is decidedly rustic modern where sheetrock walls contrast handsomely with the exposed posts and beams throughout the space. The owners incorporated garage parking, laundry, kitchenette with wood-burning stove oven, bathroom, workout area and a pool table all on the first floor. The upper level houses the main living space where contemporary décor and finished are combined with natural wood flooring and those same exposed posts and beams. Lots of natural light fills the space from the 18 ft. vaulted ceilings, dormer windows and French doors off the living room. The owners added a partial loft for additional sleeping and a functional storage area.

The outdoor area is a menagerie of intimate moments such as the firepit and gazebo — all of which work together to create a larger, highly interactive experience.

Game room and media room are separated by an arch but still allow company and families to interact from both rooms. The pull table is blue to pull in the colors of the accent walls in both rooms. Tall pub tables are placed at both ends of the game room and a wall mounted TV so everyone can enjoy TV and play pool at the same time.

Every space in this Colorado home is designed to interact with nature yet to bring in contemporary finishes.

An existing 70’s brick home nestled streets away from the beach, is in dire need of a transformation. The existing home had the bones to accommodate a substantial renovation, some modifications to the layout, adding an extension and exaggerating the existing raked ceilings in the main living area impacts the new home.
The home itself is a relatively disjointed 70’s home, so cleaver planning was imperative to make the most of the interior space. Large open plan living areas with adjoining outdoor entertaining was important. The owners are a young family who enjoy family and entertaining so interaction with the outdoor alfresco was essential not only for quality of living but to appear as a continuation of the main living area to increase the zone visually.
My client’s fresh approach; introduction of modern materials with a hint of Scandinavian and industrial, an improved working area and a functional space for cooking and preparing meals.

The Aerius - Modern Craftsman in Ridgefield Washington by Cascade West Development Inc.
Upon opening the 8ft tall door and entering the foyer an immediate display of light, color and energy is presented to us in the form of 13ft coffered ceilings, abundant natural lighting and an ornate glass chandelier. Beckoning across the hall an entrance to the Great Room is beset by the Master Suite, the Den, a central stairway to the Upper Level and a passageway to the 4-bay Garage and Guest Bedroom with attached bath. Advancement to the Great Room reveals massive, built-in vertical storage, a vast area for all manner of social interactions and a bountiful showcase of the forest scenery that allows the natural splendor of the outside in. The sleek corner-kitchen is composed with elevated countertops. These additional 4in create the perfect fit for our larger-than-life homeowner and make stooping and drooping a distant memory. The comfortable kitchen creates no spatial divide and easily transitions to the sun-drenched dining nook, complete with overhead coffered-beam ceiling. This trifecta of function, form and flow accommodates all shapes and sizes and allows any number of events to be hosted here. On the rare occasion more room is needed, the sliding glass doors can be opened allowing an out-pour of activity. Almost doubling the square-footage and extending the Great Room into the arboreous locale is sure to guarantee long nights out under the stars.

This 7,000 square foot space is a modern weekend getaway for a modern family of four. The owners were looking for a designer who could fuse their love of art and elegant furnishings with the practicality that would fit their lifestyle. They owned the land and wanted to build their new home from the ground up. Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors, Ltd. was a natural fit to make their vision a reality.
Upon entering the house, you are immediately drawn to the clean, contemporary space that greets your eye. A curtain wall of glass with sliding doors, along the back of the house, allows everyone to enjoy the harbor views and a calming connection to the outdoors from any vantage point, simultaneously allowing watchful parents to keep an eye on the children in the pool while relaxing indoors. Here, as in all her projects, Betty focused on the interaction between pattern and texture, industrial and organic.

Winner of the 2017 Casey Van Maris Award, given to the project awarded the highest marks for execution of unique and innovative design in landscaping. Awarded by Landscape Ontario

Clients were looking for an open space that had the feel of a relaxed weekend retreat in the kitchen. Counter seating includes interaction with the cook, and there is ample storage space without feeling closed in. The appliances are of adequate size for family and entertaining guests, and there is great traffic flow. Some special features included are: Stone facade focal point and flanking stone end walls; Dual counter heights on island provide height for laptop usage plus creates a visual transition from the working space of the island; faux beam between kitchen and family room adding to the open feel; new hardwood floor; stainless steel farm sink and service sink; LED lighting fixtures.
