Before we drafted the final plans, we had to make sure we were on the same page with our clients. Design drawings like this are much more effective than just talking or looking at material samples...drawn to scale, these sketches are invaluable to convey proportions. The final design we arrived at had some changes from this early sketch, the most obvious being that we extended the hearth across the firewood storage areas.

“My partner and I purchased the project after the first developer had gone bankrupt. Not wanting to make the same mistakes they had, we sought out a more intelligent approach to building an upscale ski-in/out authentic full log commercial project. We sent word out for referrals, did internet research, and interviewed log home companies. An old friend of mine told me about a company in Idaho that had impressed him. In hiring Edgewood to help us redesign and plan the project for success, we found a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise. Additionally their “hands-on” approach on-site proved invaluable when coupled with the very sophisticated and creative design horsepower they brought to the table. Their methods proved to not only be highly cost-effective, but very authentic and desirable to our future owners. Simply put, if we had not found Edgewood, we would likely have suffered the same fate at the first developer.”

A visually sumptuous idea book, showcasing an eclectic array of interior design possibilities using salvaged goods. Following up on her celebrated first Salvage Secrets book, which Fine Homebuilding called “An invaluable first step in the salvage-for-design journey,” here salvage design guru Joanne Palmisano takes readers further, exploring a wealth of smaller-scale interior design and decor concepts. Bottle caps turned into a kitchen backsplash, old bed springs reinvented as candle holders, and a recycled shipping container-turned-guesthouse are just a few examples of the innovative repurposing of second-hand items that readers will discover. From retro and modern to classic, “cottage,” and urban chic, Palmisano takes readers on a sumptuous visual journey featuring unique salvage ideas in an eclectic array of styles, for every room in the house—kitchens and dining rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms, living rooms and dens, and entryways and outdoor areas. The journey continues with a sampling of cutting-edge retail spaces, hotels, cafes, and boutiques across the country that incorporate salvage into their designs, such as Industrie Denim in San Francisco, Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, and Rejuvenation in Portland. Profiles of thirteen “salvage success stories” are also included, showcasing the imaginative designs of creative homeowners. And lastly, fourteen easy, do-it-yourself projects are included at the back of the book (with step-by-step instructions), not to mention a comprehensive “Where to Find Salvage” resource section. Packed with over 350 color photos, Salvage Secrets Design & Decor offers a trove of salvage ideas to inspire, proving that you need look no further than your local rebuild center, architectural salvage shop, or flea market to transform your living space. Experience the true essence of luxury design, where stunning aesthetics meet practicality, especially in the heart of the home—the kitchen. It's all about discovering ingenious life hacks that bring more joy to our surroundings, saving time and hassle while enhancing our overall experience. One delightful touch we incorporate whenever possible is the addition of a pot filler. Beyond its timeless visual appeal, it proves to be an invaluable tool. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By providing a direct water hook-up, this little luxury eliminates the mess and streamlines the process of filling up your cookware. No more lugging heavy pots to the sink! With a pot filler, you can effortlessly add water as needed, even when your pots are already hot. To enjoy this convenience, a bit of extra planning during construction is required. Work closely with your designer, builder, or contractors to ensure proper plumbing in advance.

We all know that everyone congregates around the kitchen and with a large family, it is important to have a kitchen that can accommodate everyone. This fantastic wrap around bar top serves multiple purposes. It is perfect for giving the homeowner more prep space, it allows all of the kids to sit around the kitchen, and it provides a serving spot for food when entertaining. Some of the little details are the taupe painted beadboard around the base which contrasts nicely with the light and airy linen barstools. Again we used the stone from the exterior of the hours as a feature in this space with the custom vent hood. A lot of people think granite is "out of style" and feels "old", but when you use is properly, it feels current and fresh. Plus, the added bonus of not having to worry about hurting the counter tops is invaluable. Photo by Kevin Twitty
