This is an example of a large partial sun front yard stone landscaping in Perth.

The owners requested a Private Resort that catered to their love for entertaining friends and family, a place where 2 people would feel just as comfortable as 42. Located on the western edge of a Wisconsin lake, the site provides a range of natural ecosystems from forest to prairie to water, allowing the building to have a more complex relationship with the lake - not merely creating large unencumbered views in that direction. The gently sloping site to the lake is atypical in many ways to most lakeside lots - as its main trajectory is not directly to the lake views - allowing for focus to be pushed in other directions such as a courtyard and into a nearby forest.
The biggest challenge was accommodating the large scale gathering spaces, while not overwhelming the natural setting with a single massive structure. Our solution was found in breaking down the scale of the project into digestible pieces and organizing them in a Camp-like collection of elements:
- Main Lodge: Providing the proper entry to the Camp and a Mess Hall
- Bunk House: A communal sleeping area and social space.
- Party Barn: An entertainment facility that opens directly on to a swimming pool & outdoor room.
- Guest Cottages: A series of smaller guest quarters.
- Private Quarters: The owners private space that directly links to the Main Lodge.
These elements are joined by a series green roof connectors, that merge with the landscape and allow the out buildings to retain their own identity. This Camp feel was further magnified through the materiality - specifically the use of Doug Fir, creating a modern Northwoods setting that is warm and inviting. The use of local limestone and poured concrete walls ground the buildings to the sloping site and serve as a cradle for the wood volumes that rest gently on them. The connections between these materials provided an opportunity to add a delicate reading to the spaces and re-enforce the camp aesthetic.
The oscillation between large communal spaces and private, intimate zones is explored on the interior and in the outdoor rooms. From the large courtyard to the private balcony - accommodating a variety of opportunities to engage the landscape was at the heart of the concept.

Sometimes our clients like to be very much involved in the creation of their home, and this is one such example. The owner wanted to source the primary materials, so we discussed the needs from our point of view as the architects, and he went into action. He would find hewn barns and send us photos and floor plans to review until we found the perfect combination. One large hewn barn was moved to the client’s land near Yellowstone Park, then renovated to become the main living portion of the house. A second smaller barn was reworked to be the master bedroom, and then joined by a stone connector. To accommodate a billiards room and complete the home, one last living space was included in the project.

This Opulant master bath retreat is "fit for a King and Queen", with his and hers sections of the bath suite , joined with a central bath foyer complete with a chandalier featuring rock crystal and onyx detailing. This foyer features a beautiful groin valted ceiling, and is centered on his and hers shower suites also. This is the view when walking through the sitting room from master bedroom....

As its name implies, our Industrial and contemporary Montana home office desk takes its inspiration from the great outdoors with large wood logs being cut and joined together, with 2" solid acacia hardwood mounted on iron legs. The planks are constructed with a special wood working technique. To maintain originality and rustic characteristics, panels have live edges, large knots, splits and cracks that lend to the organic nature of each desk. This contemporary desk is finished with a sealer lacquer and an all-natural bee wax.
Dimensions: 54"W x 29"D x 30"H
Made of Solid Acacia wood
Deep Walnut/Antique Nickel Finish
Due to the organic nature of this product, variation from 1-3 inches may occur within each dimension provided.
The appearance of finishes, tones, textures and grains will vary slightly from piece to piece due to the nature of the wood and the hand-finish process giving you a truly unique look and style. Natural distress and imperfections highlight the beauty of rustic woods and give each piece a charm of its own

This project was executed remotely in close collaboration with the client. The primary bedroom actually had an unusual dilemma in that it had too many windows, making furniture placement awkward and difficult. We converted one wall of windows into a full corner-to-corner drapery wall, creating a beautiful and soft backdrop for their bed. We also designed a little boy’s nursery to welcome their first baby boy.

Designer’s Note: One of the main project goals was to develop a kitchen space that complimented the homes quality while blending elements of the new kitchen space with the homes eclectic materials.
Japanese Ash veneers were chosen for the main body of the kitchen for it's quite linear appeals. Quarter Sawn White Oak, in a natural finish, was chosen for the island to compliment the dark finished Quarter Sawn Oak floor that runs throughout this home.
The west end of the island, under the Walnut top, is a metal finished wood. This was to speak to the metal wrapped fireplace on the west end of the space.
A massive Walnut Log was sourced to create the 2.5" thick 72" long and 45" wide (at widest end) living edge top for an elevated seating area at the island. This was created from two pieces of solid Walnut, sliced and joined in a book-match configuration.
The homeowner loves the new space!!

This couple wanted to retain the character of their existing Craftsman kitchen, while joining their kitchen and dining room by removing a non-load-bearing wall. The bead board ceiling was retained and minimal changes were made to the existing footprint. Lost cabinetry was replaced through careful design and coordination with cabinet maker Gary Frederickson. Daylight was maximized in a previously segmented and enclosed space by removing a load-bearing wall to the living room. The kitchen design incorporates a new island for added countertop space and entertaining. 10K worked closely with our clients to ensure the existing mid-century integrity of the home was maintained.

“Compelling.” That’s how one of our judges characterized this stair, which manages to embody both reassuring solidity and airy weightlessness. Architect Mahdad Saniee specified beefy maple treads—each laminated from two boards, to resist twisting and cupping—and supported them at the wall with hidden steel hangers. “We wanted to make them look like they are floating,” he says, “so they sit away from the wall by about half an inch.” The stainless steel rods that seem to pierce the treads’ opposite ends are, in fact, joined by threaded couplings hidden within the thickness of the wood. The result is an assembly whose stiffness underfoot defies expectation, Saniee says. “It feels very solid, much more solid than average stairs.” With the rods working in tension from above and compression below, “it’s very hard for those pieces of wood to move.”
The interplay of wood and steel makes abstract reference to a Steinway concert grand, Saniee notes. “It’s taking elements of a piano and playing with them.” A gently curved soffit in the ceiling reinforces the visual rhyme. The jury admired the effect but was equally impressed with the technical acumen required to achieve it. “The rhythm established by the vertical rods sets up a rigorous discipline that works with the intricacies of stair dimensions,” observed one judge. “That’s really hard to do.”
