The objective was to create a warm neutral space to later customize to a specific colour palate/preference of the end user for this new construction home being built to sell. A high-end contemporary feel was requested to attract buyers in the area. An impressive kitchen that exuded high class and made an impact on guests as they entered the home, without being overbearing. The space offers an appealing open floorplan conducive to entertaining with indoor-outdoor flow.
Due to the spec nature of this house, the home had to remain appealing to the builder, while keeping a broad audience of potential buyers in mind. The challenge lay in creating a unique look, with visually interesting materials and finishes, while not being so unique that potential owners couldn’t envision making it their own. The focus on key elements elevates the look, while other features blend and offer support to these striking components. As the home was built for sale, profitability was important; materials were sourced at best value, while retaining high-end appeal. Adaptations to the home’s original design plan improve flow and usability within the kitchen-greatroom. The client desired a rich dark finish. The chosen colours tie the kitchen to the rest of the home (creating unity as combination, colours and materials, is repeated throughout).

Sunset Construction and Design specializes in creating residential patio retreats, outdoor kitchens with fireplaces and luxurious outdoor living rooms. Our design-build service can turn an ordinary back yard into a natural extension of your home giving you a whole new dimension for entertaining or simply unwinding at the end of the day. Today, almost any activity you enjoy inside your home you can bring to the outside. Depending on your budget, your outdoor room can be simple, with a stamped concrete patio, a grill and a table for dining, or more elaborate with a fully functional outdoor kitchen complete with concrete countertops for preparing and serving food, a sink and a refrigerator. You can take the concept even further by adding such amenities as a concrete pizza oven, a fireplace or fire-pit, a concrete bar-top for serving cocktails, an architectural concrete fountain, landscape lighting and concrete statuary.
Cooking
Something to cook with, such as a barbecue grill or wood-fired pizza oven, and countertops for food preparation and serving are key elements in a well-designed outdoor kitchen. Concrete countertops offer the advantages of weather resistance and versatility, since they can be formed into any shape you desire to suit the space. A coat of sealer will simplify cleanup by protecting your countertop from stains. Other amenities, such as concrete bar-tops and outdoor sinks with plumbing, can expand your entertainment options.
Hearth
Wood-burning or gas fireplaces, fire pits, chimineas and portable patio heaters extend the enjoyment of outdoor living well into the evening while creating a cozy conversation area for people to gather around.
If you’re interested in converting a boring back yard or starting from scratch in a new home, look us up! A great patio and outdoor living area can easily be yours. Greg, Sunset Construction & Design in Fresno, CA.

We replaced a dowdy colonial style mass produced painted mantle with a boldly modern marble wall to serve as the fireplace breast. The walls washed with light to either side will provide gallery space for the owner's collection of wall hangings. Rather than becoming a background for the decor, the mantle is now a key element of it.

After nearly 20 years of working in a cramped and inefficient kitchen, as well a doing most of their cooking on a hotplate because of on-going issues with old appliances, our food-loving clients were more than ready for a major kitchen remodel.
Our goal was to open the kitchen and living space without compromising the architectural integrity of this gorgeous 1930’s home, allowing our clients to cook and entertain guests at the same time. We made sure to retain key elements, such as the plaster cove moulding detail, arched doorways, and glass knobs in order to maintain the look and era of the home.
Features includes a new bar and prep sink area, new appliances throughout, a cozy dog bed area incorporated into the cabinet design, shelving niche for cookbooks, magnetic cabinet door on the broom closet to display photos, a recessed television niche for the flatscreen, and radius steps with custom mosaic tile on the stair risers.
Our clients can now cook and entertain guests with ease while their beloved dog’s standby to keep the floor clean!

In this compact Houston yard, we created a relaxing outdoor retreat with thoughtful design and custom features. The focal point is a stamped concrete patio, which provides a stylish and durable foundation for gatherings. A serene water feature with a river rock basin, hand-selected by the client, adds soothing sounds and natural beauty to the space. Landscape lighting enhances the ambiance, illuminating key elements and extending the enjoyment into the evening. We also installed an A/C screen and storage. The landscape is softened with native plants, creating a green, eco-friendly solution that blends seamlessly with the surroundings. This project shows how a small yard can feel both functional and expansive.

Gray is the new white in this custom kitchen in Sandwich MA. Gail O'Rourke of White Wood Kitchens executed this design in a new home built by RW Anderson and Sons Custom Builders. Using Fieldstone Cabinetry, she created a large inviting space, open to the living and dining areas. Key elements are the builtin ovens and cook top, high ceilings, large kitchen island with ample seating, the function yet elegant side bar with large pantry. Bianco Sardo granite counters and ceramic tile with carrera type decorative finish complete the look.

A key element in giving the pool grotto a natural feel was the extensive use of moss rock. Placing these rocks requires skill and experience. They need to be positioned in a way so that water spills over them like it would appear in nature — like something you’d see on a mountain hike or woodland stroll. www.deckandpatio.com

Classic mahogany with patina kitchen, New jersey.
Beautiful hand carved pieces highlighted through a coat of Winsor & Newton patina.
An Italian inspired design, highlighting the incorporation of hand carved artisanal details within key elements of the overall design. Emphasized through the use of a coat of patina, the mahogany tone contrasts effectively with the lighter materials of the countertops, backsplash, and floor.

The concept of the interior is built on a holistic approach to design solutions. Zoning is achieved by an island layout of objects: a wardrobe in the hallway, a kitchen table and a dresser in the bedroom. The key elements of each room, such as the kitchen island, dresser in the dressing room and the case in the bathroom, are made of light wood. Also, light gray curtains accentuate the texture (not the colors) on the wall background.

A real treat to work on this project as Art Director with The Property Brothers. This home was transformed from a very dated and gloomy space to a bright, elegant Urban retreat in the heart of The Danforth! Various layers of colour and texture were key elements in creating a home filled with life, warmth and style for a young family to enjoy!
This kitchen was designed in bright and warm tones with accents of reclaimed wood and golden hues.
A space for a family to hang out in for hours!

This was an ensuite where the homeowners wanted to create a retreat for themselves. With a steam shower being a key element and a vanity that the homeowner fell in love with, the design began. Finishing with a very unique tile design this space became one of a kind.

This project is the definition of where the finesse of craftsmanship and structural brute must meet and far exceed client expectations.
The massive undertaking of excavating 700 cubic yards of soil to add a new basement below the existing structure took this 2-story home to 4,000 square feet. This now 3-story Victorian boasts 1,800 additional square feet of useable space including a third living room with soundproof insulation and custom built-in cabinetry, a wet bar, full bathroom with Waterworks fixtures and intricate marble tile, private office, laundry room equipped with a chute from every floor, and a gym & guest room.
Restoring, the original upper 2 floors of this stunning Victorian to its former glory was another challenge in and of itself. Rehabbing vaulted coved ceilings & original early 19th century mantels, renovating the bedrooms and bathrooms, updating the kitchen and creating an indoor/outdoor experience by installing doors in the former window locations between the dining room and patio were just a few key elements of this project.

A modern dining room design that combines both fancy and cozy in the most elegant and sophisticated way.

The key elements to having a bright, sophisticated, minimalist open family room are chrome, Glass, and a neutral color palette.
