Our craftsmen removed an existing wall, doubling the depth of this kitchen. The doorway from kitchen to foyer and the doorway from kitchen to family room were widened and new headers were installed. Now, the remodeled area allowed for TWO islands and more cabinetry. Plug-molds, hidden under the island and under the wall cabinets, maintained a clean look eliminating receptacles. The finishing touch was the brick pattern subway backsplash tile and the accent tile in the niche above the range. The new Red Oak flooring was our final detail.

With this homeowner being a geologist, they were looking for a very earthy, stone-based feel. The stone for the countertop was selected first, and then a bright color was found to match the rusted stone esthetic. The window was also opened to give life to the owner’s beautiful view and grey upper-cabinets were used to tie the appliances into the rest of the design. Looking into into the kitchen from the adjacent family room. The doors to the patio are just out of view to the left. To the right is the open air atrium. The skylights bring in abundant light, leaving the walls free for a long run of cabinetry. The over-sized island is used for informal meals and homework. The table to the left is used by the parents and two children for dinners and weekend pancakes.

These homeowners wanted a new, fresh kitchen but wanted to preserve their footprint and flooring since they were unsure how much longer they would stay in the house. A soft, off white cabinet with simple lines, a warm wood top and a granite that featured both warm and cool tones was the perfect combination to create this beautiful, timeless space. Ethereal Modern Pied-à-terre Kitchen by Brett Design. This all glass kitchen is clad in back painted glass from the refrigerator to the cabinets to the dishwasher to the walls, counter top and backsplash. This small New York City kitchen lacks nothing. With careful space planning the custom contemporary glass flat front cabinets provide plenty of storage, while well placed top of the line stainless steel range is a dream for an urban home chef. Recessed under cabinet lighting and ceiling lighting concealed above dropped modern crown molding provide understated and beautiful illumination.

Inspiration for a large coastal dark wood floor kitchen/dining room combo remodel in San Francisco

Kiel's woodworking talents are in full effect in the kitchen. Rather than incorporate pre-fabricated cabinets into the newly rebuilt space, he decided to build them himself, affording the home the custom work that it so deserves. "It didn't make sense to put in the same fiberboard cabinetry that was there before", he confesses. Part of the plan called for open shelving up top to show off Chelsea's colorful plate collection. "One of the perks of being married to a wood worker", Chelsea jokes, "is having an entire kitchen worth of cabinets for the cost of wood and paint!" The couple outfitted the antique sink with a modern spray fixture from IKEA. The enameled cast iron sink was not only a steal at $25, but it is certainly made to last. "Often we buy older pieces which have been around for 50+ years because we know that if they have survived this long they will likely survive another 50", she says. Oversized pendant lights match the large scale of the custom kitchen island.
