Products making their television debut in this project were Anthology Woods Northwest Blend (a naturally weathered wood installed on a section of the ceiling, unfinished) and the extremely hard & durable Left Coast White Oak, a unique species growing only in a narrow strip of Oregon and bit in California & Washington (installed for the flooring, finished with Rubio Monocoat White natural oil). The homeowners were able to easily apply the finish themselves prior to installing the floor, and the zero VOC nature of the oil insured it was safe to move right in! The White tint to the oil gives a subtle white-washed look to the floors while maintaining a natural look and a supple feel underfoot. The couple participating in the episode loved their floor so much they decided to add more, installing it in their master bedroom, as well! The rich character of this natural Oak in a flat sawn (the old "European" way to cut Oak) wood product adds a timeless element & warmth to the feel of the space. Looking closely at the grain, you'll see cathedral patterns in many boards, along with a great mix of flat grain with rift areas as well. Finishing out the details of the room, the Bath Crashers team added natural carerra marble in the shower with tones of white & gray, and apron-front vanity sinks for extra charm.

2011 NARI CAPITAL COTY FINALIST AWARD WINNER This 1970’s split-level single-family home in an upscale Arlington neighborhood had been neglected for years. With his surrounding neighbors all doing major exterior and interior remodeling, however, the owner decided it was time to renovate his property as well. After several consultation meetings with the design team at Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, he settled on an exterior layout to create an Art & Craft design for the home. It all got started by excavating the front and left side of the house and attaching a wrap-around stone porch. Key design attributes include a black metal roof, large tapered columns, blue and grey random style flag stone, beaded stain ceiling paneling and an octagonal seating area on the left side of this porch. The front porch has a wide stairway and another set of stairs leads to the back yard. All exterior walls of the home were modified with new headers to allow much larger custom-made windows, new front doors garage doors, and French side and back doors. A custom-designed mahogany front door with leaded glass provides more light and offers a wider entrance into the home’s living area. Design challenges included removing the entire face of the home and then adding new insulation, Tyvek and Hardiplank siding. The use of high-efficiency low-e windows makes the home air tight. The Arts & Crafts design touches include the front gable over the front porch, the prairie-style grill pattern on the windows and doors, the use of tapered columns sitting over stone columns and the leaded glass front door. Decorative exterior lighting provides the finishing touches to this look. Inside, custom woodwork, crown molding, custom glass cabinets and interior pillars carry the design. Upon entering the space, visitors face a large partition that separates the living area from a gourmet Arts & Crafts kitchen and dining room. The home’s signature space, the kitchen offers contrasting dark and light cherry cabinets. Wide plank hard wood floors, exotic granite counters and stainless steel professional-grade appliances make this a kitchen fit for any chef.

These Northern Virginia residents have owned this vacation home for about ten years. With retirement imminent, they decided to give the entire home an over-haul. With it’s great bones and amazing location, this seemed like a very sound investment for their future. Paola McDonald from Olamar Interiors had been working with the clients for the past three years, helping them to renovate their Sterling, VA condominium and their Moorefield, WV weekend home. It seemed fitting that they would also hire her to help them renovate this home as well. For this project we took the home down to the studs and practically rebuilt it. The renovation includes an addition to the basement level and main floor to create a new fitness room, additional guest bedroom and larger kitchen and dining area. It also included a renovation of the facade of the home. The exterior of the home was completely re-sided and painted, and we added the tall windows at the stairs. The lower entry deck was expanded and an upper deck was added just off the kitchen in order for the homeowner to keep his grill away from the strong ocean winds. A new deck was also added off of the master bedroom. New stainless steel railings were added to all the decks. We opened the homes stairwells, adding custom glass railings and new lighting to create a much more open feel and allow for natural light to flood the entire main living area. The original, tiny kitchen was expanded substantially, adding a large custom eat in bar, wine storage area and plenty of storage. We utilized Decora’s Marquis Cabinetry in an espresso finish to give the kitchen a very clean, contemporary feel. Carrara marble countertops paired with a grey quartz, single slap marble backsplash, and stainless appliances create a clean look. In the new dining area, a simple Modloft dining table was paired with a Regina Andrew bubbles chandelier and Jessica Charles dining chairs for a sophisticated feel accentuated perfectly by beachy colors and textures that tie in the beautiful views of the Ocean. A custom chandelier from John Pomp is the highlight of the family room, particularly at night when it is reminiscent to fireflies in the sky. A new custom designed, custom made sectional, cozy newly added Spark Modern Fires gas fireplace, custom rug by Julie Dasher and Lee Industries chairs create a cozy place to lounge and watch television after a long day at the beach. Guests feel like they are in a luxurious boutique hotel complete with spectacular views, comfortable Ann Gish linens and beautiful and unique lighting fixtures. All three full baths and the powder room received complete facelifts with new glass, marble and ceramic tiles, Decora cabinetry, new lighting fixtures, quartz countertops and unique features that make unique statements in each one. Phillip Jeffries mica wallpaper are used in the entryway and family room fireplace walls to add a sandy texture to each space. Phillip Jeffries grasscloth was added to the master bedroom accent wall to create a delicate feature. New flooring throughout includes gorgeous dark stained hardwood floors, ceramic tile and Karastan carpeting in the bedrooms. The crisp white and grey walls are accentuated throughout the home by beach inspired turquoises, navies and lime greens. CCI Renovations/North Vancouver/Photos - Luiza Matysiak. This former bungalow went through a renovation 9 years ago that added a garage and a new kitchen and family room. It did not, however, address the clients need for larger bedrooms, more living space and additional bathrooms. The solution was to rearrange the existing main floor and add a full second floor over the old bungalow section. The result is a significant improvement in the quality, style and functionality of the interior and a more balanced exterior. The use of an open tread walnut staircase with walnut floors and accents throughout the home combined with well-placed accents of rock, wallpaper, light fixtures and paint colors truly transformed the home into a showcase.

The word "basement" can conjur thoughts of dark, damp, unfriendly spaces. We were tasked with transforming one of those basements into a space kids couldn't wait to spend time. A trundle daybed anchors a cozy reading nook built for two, with enough bookshelves to keep any bookworm entertained. Dad's childhood kitchen invites culinary creativity, and a playful craft table does double duty as a snack station when friends come to play. The space caters to adults, as well, with a comfortable sectional to lounge on while the kids play, and plenty of storage in the "mud room" and wall of built-in cabinetry. Throw open the custom barn doors and the treadmill is perfectly positioned to catch your favorite show on the flat screen TV. The house is designed to be harmonious with its traditional neighbors, with divided lite windows, and hip roofs. In this one bedroom apartment, I wanted to enhance the brightness of this living room space by adding a few bold colors, and complementing these bold colors with heavy, neutral textured art and a patterned rug and coffee table. Mesmerizing green velvent panels, with sheer curtains in tow, hung on a gold double rod add immense character to this room. An eye catching lamp sits in the corner near the chaise side of the sofa for my book loving client. Another priority was the bookshelf entertainment stand. All of my client's books fit perfectly, and a few metallic accessories slightly adorn the top. After installing all of the items, my client's space is neat and looks larger than it actually is.

A large open-plan kitchen is given a clean, modern look with the abundance of white and pale yellows. We used a new green material for the countertops, which is a man-made porcelain slab, which adds a smooth and seamless design to the large space. Complementing the countertops are the sleek white cabinets, white globe pendant lights, and a pale yellow accent wall, which keeps the room light and cheery while adding a touch of color. We added a pop-up outlet in the countertop, which plugs into a hidden GFCI, allowing for outlets to be readily available and indecipherable on the countertop. An assisted pop-up shelf has also been installed, providing the perfect space for a toaster, coffee machine, and other small machinery that may take up wanted counter space. And lastly, for additional storage, we designed the top row shelves to be open and continuous (not sectioned off), creating space for larger items that the homeowners want to store.
