These homeowners came to us through a recommendation from a client who was extremely happy with the work we did for them in the past. This project was in the inner city and the homeowners tore down their old house and built their new home in its place. Keeping with the charm of the original home, the main goal for the home was to make it look like a brand new 100 year old home. We were brought on to work on the entire home with the exception of the kitchen (entry, family room, ceiling work, office/ den, living room, fireplace, window trims, 5 bedrooms, and 4 bathrooms).
In addition to our custom woodworking, these homeowners leaned heavily on our design suggestions. From an execution standpoint, this home was extremely detailed, and getting the balance from room to room and throughout the entire home was crucial for achieving the correct look. In addition, the methods and materials used 100 years ago have since had drastic improvements, making the lifetime and quality of the finished product substantially better, but also adding a higher degree of difficulty to accomplish accurate looking details.
The end result of this project was a work of art. A home that thad the appearance of a 100 year old home, with modern materials and methods to ensure quality and longevity. Everything from their dramatic entry and staircase to their floor-to-ceiling hand-finished den showcases a skill set and eye for detail essential to accomplishing the lofty goals of this home.

The main goal of this renovation was to update an authentic mid-century home to suit a modern lifestyle, while still maintaining the original character and aesthetic of the home.
To create a more open, family friendly space also suitable for entertaining, walls between the kitchen, dining room and living room were removed to create an open area to house the 360-sq.-ft. kitchen. Upon demolition, it was noted that some areas of the original tongue and groove ceiling had aged much differently than the rest of the ceiling. Rather than stain the areas and cause them to age differently, we opted to apply oil to darken the wood so that it will all continue to age at the same pace.
Balancing new materials and tones with the existing abundance of wood was challenging, but in the end the balance was achieved with custom cabinetry in both white and anthracite matte lacquer, which is complemented by a custom floating walnut buffet in the dining area. Keeping the island and perimeter base cabinet finishes the same made the space feel more open, and presented the opportunity to create a dark focal wall for the refrigerator and pantry. These custom anthracite matte lacquer cabinets provide a striking yet subtle contrast with the white and wood, while incorporating well concealed pantry storage with microwave, as well as a Sub-Zero refrigerator.
In lieu of a typical exhaust hood, downdraft ventilation was installed in the island, and pendants were omitted to keep the space open, but also more consistent with the original design of the home. Brass globe sconces were installed on either side of the sink to bring in warmth, and frame the view of the gorgeous greenery outside.
This Project was a fantastic collaboration with Lauren Combs of The Neat Method Michigan

Imagine a modern Lakewood home tailored for two veterans, blending accessibility with sleek design on a tricky lot. Jazz House turns a triangular site into a sunny haven, supporting mobility needs while celebrating life through light and space.
The couple—a doctor and jazz musician—needed a home for limited mobility, with low thresholds and elevator prep. Close to transit for convenience, the design uses the lot's shape to invite winter sun and ease summer heat.
Setbacks on the odd lot could have limited options, but an elongated build maximizes space and light. For injuries, accessible features create smooth movement, turning obstacles into a comfortable, future-proof setup.
The concept focuses on clean, light-filled rooms with modern materials for a fresh feel. A private jazz studio adds personal touch, while the shape enhances views and flow.
Modern methods ensure strength and style, built to handle Colorado's demands with efficiency in mind.
Spacious with four bedrooms and three baths, big windows flood it with light. Private and shared areas, including the studio, make it versatile for work, music, and relaxation.
Since 2015, Jazz House has been a supportive retreat that adapts to life. It offers ease, beauty, and connection to the city – a home where challenges become strengths for joyful living.

Located in the Cornfield Point area of Old Saybrook along Long Island Sound, this project brought a classic, yet forgotten beach house back to life. Through a little detective work and some creative ingenuity, we restored and enhanced the exterior to it’s former glory and transformed the interior to a highly efficient and functional home all the while uplifting its quaint cottage charm. On the exterior, we recreated a wonderful, airy front porch with cozy bench seats that look out to the water. The white cedar shingle siding is pre-bleached with a subtle flair at the bottom and a delicate break at mid-elevation. The asphalt shingles are not only beautifully matched with the siding, but offer superior reflective qualities to dissipate the heat of the summer sun. On the interior, we joined the front seasonal porch with the family room to form a larger, open living and dining space with paneled walls and ceilings anchored by the original round stone fireplace. In the rear, we carefully crafted a galley kitchen and laundry space with an adjacent first floor master suite. The diminutive house and property posed multiple practical and regulatory challenges which were overcome by a strong team effort, due diligence, and a commitment to the process.

This top-floor loft space hadn't changed since the original development in the 1980's. We completely transformed the space adding a European SieMatic kitchen with an eye-popping glass backsplash, Scandinavian-style wide-plank flooring, a new master bath and custom closets. Now, it's a contemporary space befitting this new vital and booming Boston neighborhood.
Eric Roth Photography

The major objective of this home was to craft something entirely unique; based on our client’s international travels, and tailored to their ideal lifestyle. Every detail, selection and method was individual to this project. The design included personal touches like a dog shower for their Great Dane, a bar downstairs to entertain, and a TV tucked away in the den instead of on display in the living room.
Great design doesn’t just happen. It’s a product of work, thought and exploration. For our clients, they looked to hotels they love in New York and Croatia, Danish design, and buildings that are architecturally artistic and ideal for displaying art. Our part was to take these ideas and actually build them. Every door knob, hinge, material, color, etc. was meticulously researched and crafted. Most of the selections are custom built either by us, or by hired craftsman.

We remodeled the kitchen of this lovely 1950's Tujunga home. We reconfigured the kitchen with the removal of a large chimney and wall, creating an open concept layout between the kitchen, dining room, and living room. From the foyer of the home, there is now an open view of the kitchen from the living room. We removed 745 sq. of old oakwood flooring and replaced it with brand new oakwood in the kitchen. As a method to add more space, we added 172 sq. to create a nook for space to install stacked laundry units. The kitchen measures 17'5" by 18'5" and the kitchen island measure 8'3" by 5". We installed a brand new set of white shaker cabinets, gray solid surface countertops, and a beautiful white marble countertop on the island. The kitchen island can seat five people, it has a built-in wine cooler, and beautiful modern fixtures that float above the island. We also installed a brand new stovetop, hood range, dishwasher, double sink bowl, and a 3-way light dimmer switch. For lighting upgrades, we installed 12 new recessed lighting cans and an under cabinet light strip.

How do you modernize modernism on a budget? This house had charming midcentury character and lots of potential but had been neglected for many years and was sorely in need of a refresh to bring it up to modern standards of comfort, finish, and sustainability. The tight budget dictated that it would not be a down-to-the-studs, gut remodel, but more of a surgical intervention.
Built in 1955, the house had settled on the downhill side, making the floors slope almost 4” from the front to the back of the house. Using an innovative and inexpensive push-pile method, the foundation was reinforced and the house was jacked back up. It now sits solidly on bedrock and the floor is level to within a half-inch throughout.
Inside, the original kitchen was worn and needed replacement. This presented an opportunity to remove the walls separating it from the living and dining area and create a wide-open great room with a peninsula counter for guests to gather and an almost continuous wall of windows to take in views of the hills, trees, and bay.
Throughout the rest of the house, most finishes were restored, or replaced when necessary. Wood floors were refinished, and new cork flooring, a slightly less durable but much less expensive alternative to tile and similar materials, was used in all wet areas, with the added benefit of warmth and resiliency. The existing textured walls and ceilings were skim-coated smooth with plaster, dark beams painted white, and existing wood wall paneling in the living room was cleaned and color-matched where new pieces were required. All of the existing frameless, direct-glazed windows were replaced with double pane units, and a new floor-to-ceiling window on the south side of the living room provides a key source of natural light.
In the bathrooms, existing tile and vanities were saved, and a strangely colored tub and sinks were re-glazed. Flooring, toilets, lighting, double medicine cabinets, and paint in each space make these mostly unaltered rooms feel new again.
Sustainability and comfort upgrades include an induction range (step one of an eventual transition to full electrification), spray foam insulation under the floor, spray-in cellulose in the walls, and warm-dim LED lighting throughout on a simple whole-house control system. Combined with a modern thermostat, the house’s systems are all accessible via app from anywhere.
And the most sustainable feature of all? What we didn’t do: tear it down and start over. In a country that demolishes a million homes a year- 1% of our residential housing stock- reusing an existing home is the greenest solution of all.
