This country property near Guelph is home to a young family who chose Betz to complete their backyard leisure retreat. The existing features were the access steps to the sloping backyard, a pergola with small adjoining patio plus a fire pit down the hill. This gave Betz designers an essential starting point.

Working with the limited space of the kitchen, the microwave was place underneath the island/right galley. Not only does this ease the overcrowding of foot traffic, it provides quick and easy access to heat food, straight from the counter!

Small arts and crafts master blue tile and travertine tile travertine floor and beige floor walk-in shower photo in San Francisco with shaker cabinets, medium tone wood cabinets, a two-piece toilet, blue walls, an undermount sink, quartzite countertops, a hinged shower door and beige countertops

The owners of this remodel desired a refreshing new master bathroom. The original layout was poorly designed with minimal storage, a small shower, a rarely used bathtub and a water closet that was difficult to access. The old vanity flanked a curved wall of glass block (the main challenge with this space) which didn’t allow for mirrors and was always cluttered because of limited storage.
With smart space planning and attention to detail this well-appointed bathroom is now a uniquely personal space that functions brilliantly and balanced for the homeowners.

The existing concrete aggregate terrace suffered from disrepair and access was limited from the rear of the Bethesda home. We were tasked with replacing all paving, coping, and stairs. An improved water feature behind the original kidney-shaped pool provided white noise to distract visitors from the nearby highway noise.

Pool party chaperons will be comfortable as they keep a watchful eye thanks to the three chaise lounges and comfy seating area sheltered by an umbrella. There are several access points to the backyard, including from the kitchen walkout, the garage or via the walkway along the fence to the wrought iron gate.

The rock feature establishes a rugged cottage-country Canadian shield feeling for the yard. An artfully placed assemblage of armour stone slabs provides an easy access stairway to the slide, while the pockets of river cobble create niches for a selection of plantings which add bursts of colour and texture.

A young couple with three small children purchased this full floor loft in Tribeca in need of a gut renovation. The existing apartment was plagued with awkward spaces, limited natural light and an outdated décor. It was also lacking the required third child’s bedroom desperately needed for their newly expanded family. StudioLAB aimed for a fluid open-plan layout in the larger public spaces while creating smaller, tighter quarters in the rear private spaces to satisfy the family’s programmatic wishes. 3 small children’s bedrooms were carved out of the rear lower level connected by a communal playroom and a shared kid’s bathroom. Upstairs, the master bedroom and master bathroom float above the kid’s rooms on a mezzanine accessed by a newly built staircase. Ample new storage was built underneath the staircase as an extension of the open kitchen and dining areas. A custom pull out drawer containing the food and water bowls was installed for the family’s two dogs to be hidden away out of site when not in use. All wall surfaces, existing and new, were limited to a bright but warm white finish to create a seamless integration in the ceiling and wall structures allowing the spatial progression of the space and sculptural quality of the midcentury modern furniture pieces and colorful original artwork, painted by the wife’s brother, to enhance the space. The existing tin ceiling was left in the living room to maximize ceiling heights and remain a reminder of the historical details of the original construction. A new central AC system was added with an exposed cylindrical duct running along the long living room wall. A small office nook was built next to the elevator tucked away to be out of site.
