Located in Whitefish, Montana near one of our nation’s most beautiful national parks, Glacier National Park, Great Northern Lodge was designed and constructed with a grandeur and timelessness that is rarely found in much of today’s fast paced construction practices. Influenced by the solid stacked masonry constructed for Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park, Great Northern Lodge uniquely exemplifies Parkitecture style masonry. The owner had made a commitment to quality at the onset of the project and was adamant about designating stone as the most dominant material. The criteria for the stone selection was to be an indigenous stone that replicated the unique, maroon colored Sperry Chalet stone accompanied by a masculine scale. Great Northern Lodge incorporates centuries of gained knowledge on masonry construction with modern design and construction capabilities and will stand as one of northern Montana’s most distinguished structures for centuries to come.

High in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, this majestic lodge was custom designed by MossCreek to provide rustic elegant living for the extended family of our clients. Featuring four spacious master suites, a massive great room with floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive porches, and a large family room with built-in bar, the home incorporates numerous spaces for sharing good times. Unique to this design is a large wrap-around porch on the main level, and four large distinct and private balconies on the upper level. For this bedroom design, forms and finishes were kept simple so as not to clash with the imposing slanted ceiling made in a natural wood finish. The modern rustic aesthetic was kept though the selection of furniture pieces that have natural finishes in them such as the nightstand with weaved door faces and a basket that also serves as a bench made of wicker. Dark wood tones in the lounge chairs and side tables create contrast to the light finishes of the ceiling and carpeted flooring.

Having blue as the accent color, we dressed up this alcove day bed with pillows that complements the chic modern rustic look. We also put decor in the built-in shelves.

The wainscoting is made from reclaimed white barn board. For this special job, no wood was joined, every edge was eased to look worn with a wavering block plane. Knots, bullet holes, gouges, old paint, saw marks and every other imperfection were embraced and showcased for the story they represented. Nothing looks new. The ceiling is treated with tongue and grooved, beveled cedar planks. There is nothing more incongruous than when a room is rustic but the sheetrock walls are left smooth - especially when the wall are left white. To give the walls an aged look we used a two-tone yellow-gold, coarse Venetian plaster. PHOTO CREDIT: John Ray

Simple forms and finishes in the furniture and fixtures were used as to complement with the very striking exposed wood ceiling. The white bedding with blue lining used gives a modern touch to the space and also to match the blues used throughout the rest of the lodge. Brass accents as seen in the sconces and end table evoke a sense of sophistication.

This ski room is functional providing ample room for storage.
