This quaint craftsman home had a very dark, difficult master bath space and the homeowners were clamoring for a solution. Not only was more functionality mandatory, but also ensuring the style felt more like the homeowners and original to the house.
We had the perfect solution… colorful concrete caustic tiles! Opening up the shower and removing the labyrinth-like doorless entrance was key! Doors now open in sensible ways, and the right things now seem to be in all the right places to get ready each day. We enabled the shower and the entire bathroom to be flooded with light and feature a stunning backwall full of style! This is now our clients’ happy place!

A fun, fashion-forward client wanted an eclectic office oasis to inspire her and with one mandatory request — a champagne fridge. Inspiration originated from classic interiors with a modern twist. Notable bespoke pieces include a custom curved desk with repurposed vintage cast iron Singer legs, a sophisticated Nick Alain lounge chair, bold floral wallpaper, imported crown moulding, a concealed champagne fridge and commissioned art. Vintage and heirloom objects from the client’s own collection are showcased on the illuminated built-ins.

If you search “Modern Farmhouse”, this kitchen should appear as the defining image of this beloved esthetic. But very few of this style’s renditions can claim to be actual working farms. Though badly neglected, the owners of this eastern Connecticut property wanted the renovations to retain their original character. Reclaimed wood beams add antique authenticity, while black framed windows lend an industrial air. Gorgeous ash hardwood floors contribute to the airy ambiance. Cabinetry is full-overlay with a modified beveled Shaker door; white for the perimeter, and soft cream with a strie’ glaze for the island. Gray grout on the period-correct subway tiles creates a modern graphic effect. For this space, an apron front sink was practically mandatory. Reinforcing the simplicity of the design is the deliberate omission of crown and other decorative trim. For contrast, countertops are honed and leathered Absolute Black granite; more black touches appear in the cabinet hardware and pot filler faucet.
Adjoining the kitchen is the mud room and walk-in pantry. Shiplap siding and a sliding barn door pay tribute to the home’s origin. Drawers below an upholstered bench provide much-needed storage. But the star is the etched frosted glass pantry door with charming homespun labeling.

Design by Phil Rudick, Architect, of Urban kitchens + Baths, Austin, Tx. The home owner used an extra bed room as a office/study. the goal was to create a space that would house and display his collectables and a space where he could organize and get work done. Increased storage was mandatory. The room was gutted along with the standard bed room closet and the design work began. The cabinets incorporate display, file drawers, office material storage and a small space for clothes hanger so that a guest could store clothing. The opposite wall features a massive antique oak roll top desk flanked by a floating desk and counter for equipment. the desk is made the focal point and new floating cabinets integrate visually. Over the new cabinets there are floating shelves which holds books and houses led down lighting.
The cabinets go up to the nine foot ceiling and feature an out sized cornice with recessed led down lighting.

Green roofs have become increasingly popular recently, and in some locations have become mandatory, with rooftop plantings reducing energy costs, improving air quality, increasing biodiversity and reducing storm water runoff. One of the easiest methods of creating an instant green roof is to use plastic planter trays pre-filled with growing medium and plants. This 4,600 sq. ft. rooftop terrace on the 8th floor showcases Archatrak porcelain planks in the color Oak and provides breathtaking views from the Washington Monument to the Potomac River. Hickok Cole Architects are responsible for the beautifully designed rooftop. This installation is a beautiful example of interior to exterior paving, as the porcelain planks give a look of seamless continuity as they flow from the interior atrium to the outside rooftop.

These clients have been long term homeowners, and their backyard had seen the wear and tear while raising their family. With the kids grown and spending less and less time at home, it became clear a revamp to the yard, and new outdoor living space was mandatory so they could once again enjoy the outdoors and entertain with friends and family.
The JRP team got to work, putting together ideas of what this entertaining outdoor space could be. A new roof structure complete with lights, fans, and ceiling mounted electric heaters was a must. A new Bifold door was installed to create an open flow from the house into the outdoor space. The new TV and fireplace setup establishes a perfect setting for outdoor living by providing the warmth you need on cool nights, and ambiance in the summer. An outdoor BBQ area was added for food prep and cooking while staying connected to the party. The end result created the perfect outdoor addition that can be enjoyed year-round!
