This client came to us looking for some help decorating the living/dining room and master of his new Chicago condo. Over the past few years, we have decorated most of the space together - great room, master bedroom, guest room, hallway, office, powder room and paint/wallpaper throughout. Our design was uniquely inspired by our client's sentimental and eclectic objects and art, such as the vintage Europe map in the living room, his grandmother's antique lamp and English pub sign in the office, and family airplane ephemera in the master. We added peacocks in the powder room and mixed prints in the master for a textured look unspecific to any era that flows with the rest of the home, but is definitely its own oasis. With the Athens Writing Desk, a vintage silhouette, simple lines and a rich finish evoke the mood and image of an old English library. Neoclassical details in the arched base and beaded molding deepen its character. Its top is segmented into three sections, each set with black leather and framed in brass. Two separate pullout trays on either side feature solid brass knobs. It makes a statement on its own or layered behind a sofa.

This 1920 English Cottage style home got an update. A 3 season screened porch addition to help our clients enjoy their English garden in the summer, an enlarged underground garage to house their cars in the winter, and an enlarged master bedroom.

Achieving the old world look and feel in the kitchen, a Melrose Partners Designs signature look is used: high gloss stained doors and cabinets meet polished nickel oversized hardware. Dark walnut interiors and striking English ice box hinges and pulls were procured, along with oversized quartz countertops on both the center island and main counter space run; mirror-polished stainless steel drawer fronts dress up the distressed hickory and insert doors on the main island. An added bonus: a 45-inch under-mounted sink with a hot and cold water dispenser. In order to achieve a grandiose feel for the space, a Cerused finished, 12-inch plank white oak, expanses the floor.
