We gutted and renovated this entire modern Colonial home in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Introduced to the homeowners through the wife’s parents, we updated and expanded the home to create modern, clean spaces for the family. Highlights include converting the attic into completely new third floor bedrooms and a bathroom; a light and bright gray and white kitchen featuring a large island, white quartzite counters and Viking stove and range; a light and airy master bath with a walk-in shower and soaking tub; and a new exercise room in the basement. Our clients purchased a condo in the heart of Chicago after deciding it was time to move from their longtime suburban home and embrace their dream of living downtown. Leaving their family home where their children grew up meant that our work needed to do two things for the family: help make the most of their new city life and create a warm and welcoming home for their two college-aged children. We wanted to make sure the children felt connected to their new home when visiting from school, so they were involved in the design of their bedrooms. By introducing new textures, like a fur stool in one bedroom and a brightly colored zig-zag headboard in the other, we were able to balance the children’s youthful tastes with the rest of the space, forming a cohesive concept that made the whole family feel right at home. Modern amenities, such as power-operated window treatments and an electric fireplace, were seamlessly integrated into the home, ensuring that the client can enjoy their space with a flip of a switch. The remodel introduced a fresh, open look, with modern features and improved functionality throughout the shower and vanity areas. Filling the sunken shower floor allowed for a custom zero-threshold design, featuring Arizona Tile Pebble Mosaics in Cool Blend on the shower floor. Emser's Sterlina II Silver Polished tiles were installed on the walls, accented by two recessed niches and a shaving foot niche, all lined with matching pebble mosaics for a cohesive look. To add a contrasting accent to the shower walls, matte black Delta Trinsic fixtures were installed. The new glass shower door in clear glass and matte black trim elevated the look while providing easy access. In the vanity area, the new Waypoint base cabinets in Maple Rye, are complemented by a sleek Pro Storm Quartz countertop, adding sophistication, and a Delta Nicoli matte black faucet completes the clean, modern look. A frameless mirror Glacier Bay line, framed to match the cabinetry, enhanced the updated style. The new vanity light from the Joanna collection by Lamps Plus brightened the space with its black finish and four-light design.

Our clients wanted to bring some glamour to their master bedroom, while keeping some of their existing wood furniture such as their four poster bed and antique dresser. We were able to accomplish this by introducing elements such as a subtle, but shimmery wallcovering throughout, mirror nightstands to reflect the beautiful light and soften the heaviness of the wood furniture, a crystal ceiling light fixture, and gorgeous silky window treatments and bedding.

This architecture and interior design project was introduced to us by the client’s contractor after their villa had been damaged extensively by a fire. The entire main level was destroyed with exception of the front study. Srote & Co reimagined the interior layout of this St. Albans villa to give it an "open concept" and applied universal design principles to make sure it would function for our clients as they aged in place. The universal approach is seen in the flush flooring transitions, low pile rugs and carpets, wide walkways, layers of lighting and in the seated height countertop and vanity. For convenience, the laundry room was relocated to the master walk-in closet. This allowed us to create a dedicated pantry and additional storage off the kitchen where the laundry was previously housed. All interior selections and furnishings shown were specified or procured by Srote & Co Architects.
