Photo: Michael K. Wilkinson The original attic had wood paneling on the walls and ceiling and was mostly used for storage and as a retreat for the cats. The 7-foot walls did not capture the volume of the roof line, nor did it take advantage of the square footage. We removed the existing paneling and pushed the existing walls back so they had a lower height around the perimeter. This provides a dramatic contrast to the new high ceiling and dramatic angles of the roofline. We maintained an open floor plan and used glass panels and doors for privacy and separation of different functions. The finished square footage is 650 sq.ft. There is about 350 sq.ft. of unfinished the storage area. The space needed some detailing to balance the large volume. The open plan also required a visual delineation of the different areas. Our designer added three beams across the ceiling over the bed to define the master bedroom. The beams were finished with the same dark stain used to refinish the attic’s original pine flooring. Dimmable recessed lights in the ceiling are placed in accordance with the beams location.

The Design Styles Architecture team beautifully remodeled the exterior and interior of this Carolina Circle home. The home was originally built in 1973 and was 5,860 SF; the remodel added 1,000 SF to the total under air square-footage. The exterior of the home was revamped to take your typical Mediterranean house with yellow exterior paint and red Spanish style roof and update it to a sleek exterior with gray roof, dark brown trim, and light cream walls. Additions were done to the home to provide more square footage under roof and more room for entertaining. The master bathroom was pushed out several feet to create a spacious marbled master en-suite with walk in shower, standing tub, walk in closets, and vanity spaces. A balcony was created to extend off of the second story of the home, creating a covered lanai and outdoor kitchen on the first floor. Ornamental columns and wrought iron details inside the home were removed or updated to create a clean and sophisticated interior. The master bedroom took the existing beam support for the ceiling and reworked it to create a visually stunning ceiling feature complete with up-lighting and hanging chandelier creating a warm glow and ambiance to the space. An existing second story outdoor balcony was converted and tied in to the under air square footage of the home, and is now used as a workout room that overlooks the ocean. The 10,000 sq. ft. Bellagio Residence was a 1939 Georgian Revival overlooking the manicured links of the Bel Air Country Club that was in need of a modern touch. Stripped down to the studs, Wearstler worked to create an additional 3,000 sq. ft. of living space, pushed up the ceiling heights, broadened windows and doors to allow more light and completely carved out a new master suite upstairs. Mixing the personalities of the clients, one slightly more conservative and focused on comfort, the other a little feistier that wanted something unique, Wearstler took a daredevil approach and created a high-chroma style that has become her new signature approach. Italian antiques, custom rugs inspired by silk scarves, hand-painted wallcoverings, bright hits of color like a tiger print Fuchsia velvet sofa against a plum colored pyramid studded wall and endless amounts of onyx and marble slab walls and floors make for an unapologetically lavish and seductive home. This playroom is located in the fourth bedroom which was added in preparation for when the kids reach the age when they need their own rooms. Pushing the addition out to the side of the home allowed the creation of this room, as well as the hall into the rear where the new master suite resides.

This kitchen was small and cramped. The refrigerator was pushed up against the wall and could hardly be opened. There was a door beside it to a laundry closet and then the garage. By eliminating the door, we opened up the kitchen and made room for a pantry where the laundry was. We shifted the refrigerator to the opposite end of the room and straightened out the cabinet where the sink is. This room is now a beautiful and functional kitchen. The Master Bathroom has been reconfigured to include a full size stacking washer and dryer. The quartz countertops and white cabinets and gorgeous metallic backsplash tiles really brightened this space and now it is a fun place to be! Stuart Wade was the photographer.

With one button on an iPad or remote turn down the lights and read your favorite book in your cosy chair. Or, push another button on the simple remote and raise the TV out of a cabinet and snuggle in to view that program you have been wanting to watch.

We utilized the closet space from the den therefore pushing the fridge and pantry back 27" which makes the kitchen feel expansive compared to the old footprint of the space.

Placing the screen porch over the deck was an efficient way to push the sun deck above the shade of the trees. The transom lattice matches the lattice on the front porch to tie the architectural elements together into a cohesive design.
