Bathroom - bathroom idea in DC Metro

A recently moved couple decided to renovate their new home starting with their master bathroom. This couple were very intrigued with bold colors and extraordinary fixtures. It started with choosing a bold steel free standing tub colored with black on the outside and white lon the inside. This color scheme carried over into the mosaic tiles into the shower running down vertically to accentuate a black marble top and gold mirror trim, opposite the shower area. Prior walls were taken down and a new angled wall was made to house new round custom-made double vanity cabinets. A new commode room was built behind new shower space along with double shower panel and rain shower over river rock stone floors, and porcelain floor with heated floor underneath. A tray ceiling in the middle of bathroom trimmed with gold crown and painted in black accent helps set apart bathroom project.

Inspiration for a bathroom remodel in DC Metro

2010 REGIONAL AWARD WINNER Built in 2000, this center hall colonial in Fairfax Station, Virginia had a kitchen that was neither functional nor aesthetically pleasing. First, the floor plan was poorly rationalized. The work triangle was inefficient, a large pantry took up too much floor space, and a series of railings between the kitchen and family room obstructed traffic flow. Aesthetically, the space was dated. Dutch cabinetry, floral wallpaper and a faux Victorian chandelier all cried for an update. Additionally, the homeowners wanted to incorporate high-end appliances and other amenities like a wine cooler and steam cooker. Overall, the owners were seeking to replace worn out-of-style kitchen with a substantially upgraded “open” facility that combines traditional and contemporary features configured to support multiple social and culinary needs. Working with Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, they decided to implement a series of strategic revisions that would support their new use goals. First, they removed an obstructive bearing wall between the existing kitchen and mudroom, creating a recessed niche for a new 48” gas range with custom hood. An unused desk taken out provided a spot for the new 48” two-drawer refrigerator/freezer. A custom-designed L-shaped granite-surfaced island with bar sink, icemaker and mini-drawer refrigerator takes center stage in the space and offers seating for six. Now the chef can entertain guests while preparing the meal. From an aesthetic point of view, the interior features are nothing less than stunning. Softly painted walls, decorative ceramic tile backsplashes and granite surfaces combine with custom made cabinets to create an elegant space. Antiqued soft-opaque cabinet facings, wood panel refrigerator door inserts, glass-facing display cabinets and a custom mantle range hood are true works of craftsmanship. Fine detail is expressed with flutes and corbels. Beauty is truly in the details of this award-winning kitchen.

This 1975 split-level home in a wooded area of Reston, Virginia, is home to a growing family of six. Needless to say, space was at a premium and they needed more of it. So they turned to Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes to create a second-story expansion. With limited ability to expand the footprint of the home due to lot restrictions, the design team created a 25’ x 35’ master suite addition to be placed over the existing first floor. The space would be located above the living room, dining room and kitchen, creating a private and secluded oasis for mom and dad. The children would have the home’s three middle level bedrooms and a bath of their own. A New Master Suite A new custom wooden staircase leads the homeowner to the doorstep of what she now calls her “heavenly space.” It’s a large master bedroom complete with a seating area, vaulted ceiling and skylights, and a beautiful Bordeaux-finish maple wood floor. Bright color paint was selected for the walls to complement the wood flooring and bedroom furniture. The new 11’x12’ master bathroom offers a spa-like experience. The new bath touts a large shower stall with a built-in bench and storage niches covered with flagstone tiles; a soaking whirlpool tub; and a long double vanity with granite top and fancy fixtures. Exterior Ties It Together Like any large addition, this one required exterior renovation to make the addition look like the rest of the home. New vinyl siding and architectural shingles replaced the old cedar siding and run down shingles on the original structure. A new front porch with half-stone columns and pillars maintains the home’s cottage look. A new double car garage replaces the original carport. Both are a big part of the home’s new front elevation which greatly improves its curbside appeal. The end result of this project offers everyone in the family a place of their own. The children have new bedrooms and the parents have their sanctuary in their new master suite.

2010 CAPTIAL COTY, HONORABLE MENTION AWARD WINNER, RESIDENTIAL The owners of this single family home were seeking a more colorful, contemporary kitchen style. Other goals for the renovation included having larger appliances, better traffic flow, better lighting and other updated amenities. To help the couple achieve their goals, the design team at Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes relocated all the electrical and plumbing from the bulk heads to create additional cabinet space. Then, they opened up the bearing wall between the family room and kitchen using structural beams and brought plumbing for a wall mounted faucet and a vessel sink for the wet bar. A new pantry replaced the old doorway to the dining room. All of the new appliances were relocated to the wall between the kitchen and dining room that was previously blank. It now houses a new 36” refrigerator and 36” freezer, double ovens, and additional cabinets. A central island was installed to accommodate a large cooktop. The design team then suggested double stack upper cabinetry that contains stainless steel glass door cabinets in upper part with a cobalt blue high-gloss lacquer on the lower part. Use of complementary exotic granite to tie in stainless steel appliances and color of the cabinets is one of the nice features of this job. The entire kitchen and leading hallway to the front foyer was filled in with very contemporary metallic porcelain tiles. Use of LED lighting, pendant lights and creative paint were just of few of the finishing touches. An old brick fireplace in the family room was covered in granite that complements the kitchen’s colors to facilitate the new connection between the two rooms.

He let us know that he was planning to purchase a stencil kit in order to paint free throw and 3 point lines. This is a Pro Dunk Platinum Basketball System that was purchased in May of 2013. It was installed on a 40 ft wide by a 32 ft deep playing area in Fond du Lac, WI. 2011 NARI CAPITAL COTY GRAND AWARD WINNER Having a small 10’ x 12’ kitchen tucked in the back corner of their home wasn’t working for this this young and growing family. Its cramped layout didn’t allow for a breakfast area and storage space was non-existent, both major issues for their busy day-to-day lifestyle. After consulting with Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, they decided to build a 300 square foot addition onto the back of this 1960’s vintage split level. The planned addition expanded and updated the home’s kitchen via a contemporary design, added plenty of storage and provided a much needed breakfast seating area. More importantly, it created a great place for the family to gather. The new kitchen contains a 48” professional-grade range and a large built-in refrigerator, as well as lots of cabinetry and counter space to meet client’s storage needs. Use of lighter shaker style custom painted cabinetry with honed black counter tops has lightened the space tremendously. A large island with distress black cherry cabinetry ans a mahogany countertop was installed and has become the focal point of the kitchen. By removing a partition that previously separated the kitchen from the dining room, the new design has created a wide open floor plan. The casual dining room flows right into a casual seating area with a corner fireplace. French doors open onto a large new deck. Best of all, the addition lets the family spend time together before, during and after mean preparation. It’s truly become the hearth of the home.
