The remodeling process began with a complete demolition of the existing space. This phase was necessary to create a blank canvas from which to develop a space that would better serve patients and healthcare professionals alike. The design team, led by Guil, collaborated closely with the client to envision a modern and inviting environment that would significantly improve the clinic's functionality and atmosphere. By focusing on patient comfort and operational efficiency, the redesign aimed to enhance the overall experience for visitors and staff.
A standout feature of this remodel was the installation of glass doors. These doors not only served a practical purpose but also added a modern touch to the clinic. The use of glass allowed for increased natural light to flow into the space, promoting an open and airy feel. This design choice aligns with current trends in healthcare architecture, where patient comfort is prioritized.
Additionally, the choice of materials played a crucial role in the renovation. The installation of travertine tile throughout the walls and desk created a sense of elegance and durability. Travertine is a natural stone that not only provides a high-end look but also offers practical benefits, such as easy maintenance and longevity. The incorporation of engineered wood floors further enhanced the clinic's design. The warmth of wood can help in mitigating the often sterile feeling of medical environments, thereby promoting a more welcoming atmosphere.

The MR Nook! Entirely custom made dining nook created with steel, rustic alder and love. The built-in bench has three hatches and one drawer for storage. The moveable bench's top is hinged to allow access to the heater controls and the entire bench can be slid out of the way for heater maintenance. The double (vertical) trestle style dining table frame provides a secondary footrest to the built-in bench's primary footrest and is designed to mitigate knee knocking while sliding around on the bench. This creation increased our client's seating capacity from 4 to 7 (comfortably) and gave them LOTS of storage space.

This house was designed to maintain clean sustainability and durability. Minimal, simple, modern design techniques were implemented to create an open floor plan with natural light. The entry of the home, clad in wood, was created as a transitional space between the exterior and the living spaces by creating a feeling of compression before entering into the voluminous, light filled, living area. The large volume, tall windows and natural light of the living area allows for light and views to the exterior in all directions. This project also considered our clients' need for storage and love for travel by creating storage space for an Airstream camper in the oversized 2 car garage at the back of the property. As in all of our homes, we designed and built this project with increased energy efficiency standards in mind. Our standards begin below grade by designing our foundations with insulated concrete forms (ICF) for all of our exterior foundation walls, providing the below grade walls with an R value of 23. As a standard, we also install a passive radon system and a heat recovery ventilator to efficiently mitigate the indoor air quality within all of the homes we build.

Liberated from its former enclosure, this stunning kitchen takes center stage at the heart of this contemporary town home. Anchored by dual walnut islands, the new layout is conducive to entertaining and provides both cook and guest with excellent views of the Minneapolis skyline.
Minimizing traditionally identifiable elements of a kitchen, the space, in concert with the surrounding rooms, feels more like an upscale lounge and less like a residential kitchen.
Natural granite is abundant, the waterfalled surfaces adding dramatic effect at the island and behind the induction range where an underlit shelf is integrated into the stone assembly. At the sink, the carefully detailed backsplash is recessed into the surrounding casework which provides additional storage facing the living area.
Streamlined appliances are unobtrusive, either fully-integrated or tucked out of the way. The rear wall is composed almost entirely of white, flat paneled cabinetry, tucked under the soffit and merging into the textured fireplace mass. Heavily distressed beams help mitigate the cavernous volume and add layers visual texture and warmth.
Double openings divide the space from a more intimately scaled dining area (the former home of the kitchen). This project was the third remodel for this client which involved a complete reorganization and renovation of their existing master bathroom. We were hired evaluate the existing layout of the space, take measures in the redesign to mitigate a persistent leak in the space below the bathroom, and develop a complete and detailed interior design of the remodeled bathroom. The client was also interested in develop any aging in place measures we could implement with the new design changes. We developed a new layout which reorganized the space. The project includes a separate tub and walk in shower area. We created various storage areas which included custom built in medicine cabinets, storage over the wall hung toilet, and a vanity cabinet custom designed for the new space. We also developed the lighting design for the renovated space which included custom lighting between the mirror areas above the vanity.

One of 4 rainwater harvesting systems installed at Evergreen Commons Apartments. All four systems hold 20,000+ gallons: four 50-gallon rain barrels, two 3,000-gallon tanks, four 3,000-gallon cisterns, and one below-ground 2,000-gallon tank. Purposes: mitigate flash floods, reduce municipal water bill, and irrigate a new edible orchard.

This bathroom was originally a dry sauna, but the owners spent over $50,000 remodeling this bathroom to create the dream steam shower experience. Revel in the Kohler speakers, overhead shower fixtures, and a waterfall feature. The steam unit puts out steam at a constant temperature with ten adjustable settings, mitigating the typical blasts of hot steam and then a cool-off period of less expensive units. The sink and fixtures were designed by Phillipe Starke for Axor. Porcelain tiles with a grass texture cloak the walls.

This modern landscape design in the Houston Heights 77009 side yard consists of a rectangular pool with concrete decking and coping. The diverse plantings offer a wide variety of color and textures with the Slender Sweetgum Silhouettes are set in gravel beds.

An active radon mitigation system professionally installed on a residential home with a combined siding and brick exterior. Tucked neatly beside the gas meter, the system features a durable, outdoor-rated inline fan and clean PVC piping to safely vent sub-slab radon gas high above the roofline.

For this residence, the stone came from excavating for the foundation and septic system and clearly reads as structural, not as a veneer. Attention to southern and northern exposures and resulting site preservation and energy requirements determined design choices. On southern exposures, heavily insulated wooden walls mitigate summer heat gain; the stone wall mass on the northern exposure slowly releases cooling during daytime hours. All exposed posts and beams are structural; exposed joist tails reveal the simple stick-framing and durability.
Ultimately, the symbiosis of stone, wood, and steel reflects a structure rooted to its site.

This custom built home is inspired by a pristine waterfront location on Edgartown's Great Pond. The plot is in the middle of an open plane, so our concept focused on a design that was less imposing on the landscape. In order to accomplish this we used a large overhang and a hip roof to mitigate the height of the building. Although this house respects the natural landscape around it with an unobtrusive design, it has all the grandeur of a Vineyard vacation home with a pool, pool house, large rooms filled with natural light and soaring cathedral ceilings.

Project Description:
The client contracted our company to solve multiple existing drainage problems. In a heavy rain event the existing French drain system would overflow, causing water to pool in the driveway. After investigating the system we found that the capacity of the French drain was undersized for the amount of storm water from the large rain events received in recent years. As a result of our findings and at the request of the homeowner, we designed a storm water management system to capture all storm water from the structures on the property and regenerate the underground aquifers for the volume of a 5.8” rainstorm. In addition to the new drain system, the homeowners wanted a rain garden to provide a backdrop for an existing formal garden, provide a habitat for wildlife, and provide screening from an adjacent neighbor.
Throughout the design process many challenges were presented, including an existing gas line, which ran directly through the area that best suited the bioswale. The existence of the gas line caused us to alter the shape and depth of the bioswale in some areas. We also inspected the existing downspouts to make sure there were no obstructions that would impede the system’s efficiency, and then conducted a test pit dig to make sure we had sufficient percolation rates for disposal of storm water.
To effectively capture the storm water runoff, the existing downspouts were piped from the main house and the large detached garage to a large catch basin located at the low point in the driveway. The driveway catch basin contains two outlet pipes at different elevations within the basin allowing water from smaller rain events to enter the bioswale and rain garden area to percolate into the soil before excess water overflows into a sediment trap which filters out any debris and is then piped to an underground StormTech® pit to slowly percolate into the ground. The other outlet pipe in the driveway catch basin is used for larger storm water events, taking the water directly to the StormTech® pit.
Accepting and slowing the velocity of the storm water, mitigation of erosion, and filtering out pollutants contained in the “first flush” of rainfall are the primary functions of the bioswale and rain garden. Planting these areas with mostly native plant species helps carry out these functions while attracting and providing shelter for wildlife.
The ‘Niobe’ weeping willow is the centerpiece of the rain garden, connecting with the axis of the existing formal garden. To screen the neighboring property we chose Chamaecyparis nootkatensis ‘Pendula’ for its graceful evergreen habit and tolerance of wet sites. ‘Ivory Halo’ dogwood and Panicum ‘Cloud Nine’ were used for screening as well as winter interest. To provide deciduous structure to the garden Taxodium distichum and Magnolia virginiana were used in conjunction with witch hazel. Mostly native wetland perennials were used due to their tolerance of wet conditions and occasional drought.
The area above the StormTech® pit provides space for the client’s family to relax. The rain garden and bioswale provide screening, storm water management, a habitat for wildlife, and plants that enhance the adjacent formal garden.
