Our latest project involved a complete kitchen overhaul for a family looking to create an open, functional space that seamlessly blends modern and rustic elements. By modifying the wall separating the kitchen and living room, we opened up the area and then custom-designed the cabinet depth behind the new high-top seating area, allowing us to install a small but highly functional island with a built-in microwave. They went with our Amesbury III door style from our Kitchen Solvers Legacy Collection in Stratus SuperMatte for the upper cabinets and Rustic Light Oak for the lowers. Next, we installed a new gray Lagoon Quartz countertop paired with a subway pattern Eurasia-Chiara Glazed Porcelain backsplash. The transitional design brings together white and wood tones, creating a warm yet contemporary look. The homeowners are thrilled with their new kitchen, especially the island and high-top counter that have become the heart of their home. Now, they spend more time together as a family in this beautifully transformed space.

We honored the building’s history where possible, keeping original bones and character wherever possible, then layered in the clients’ distinct creative identity. On the main floor, we designed spaces that shift seamlessly from workday to reception-ready. Lighting was planned with intention, to preserve the original plaster ceilings and spotlight rotating installations without sacrificing ambient warmth. Custom built-ins maximize functionality while maintaining a distinctly un-officey feel. Upstairs, the artist apartment is a thoughtful retreat: adaptable, light-filled, and comfortable, with just enough quirk to spark inspiration. Even the basement—home to a full photography studio and workroom—balances technical needs with aesthetic ease. Throughout, we used color, texture, and collected pieces to ensure each room feels curated, not staged. Personal, not polished.

A bedroom was added using gorgeous floor to ceiling built-ins for clothes, linens and other personal items. Standout features in this home include a stunning 18 x 18 Travertine and Marble tile floor laid out in a checkerboard pattern and a beautiful metal rod and ball stair case finished in a dark antique color. To accommodate space for the homeowners’ piano, we took advantage of a 20’ foot ceiling in the entryway. We built a new second floor platform that created additional square footage within the existing footprint and carved out a special niche for the family’s prized musical instrument. This properly designed space was given the right setting to sound and appear sensational—the melodies heard throughout the home. By modifying the footprint on the second floor, we were suddenly faced with the challenge of how to repurpose the existing rod and ball stair railing. To accommodate the additional square footage, we needed more railing than was there; and the material was no longer available to order. As a creative solution, we designed a railing system that reused all but twelve inches of the old railing and installed wide posts to make up for the shortfall in railing materials. The result was spectacular!
