Studioteka was asked to gut renovate a pair of apartments in two historic tenement buildings owned by a client as rental properties in the East Village. Though small in footprint at approximately 262 and 278 square feet, respectively, the units each boast well appointed kitchens complete with custom built shaker-style cabinetry and a full range of appliances including a dishwasher, 4 burner stove with oven, and a full height refrigerator with freezer, and bathrooms with stackable or combined washer/dryer units for busy downtown city dwellers. The shaker style cabinetry also has integrated finger pulls for the drawers and cabinet doors, and so requires no hardware. Our innovative client was a joy to work with, and numerous layouts and options were explored in arriving at the best possible use of the space. The angled wall in the smaller of the two units was a part of this collaborative process as it allowed us to be able to fit a stackable unit in the bathroom while ensuring that we also met ADA adaptable standards. New warm wooden flooring was installed in both units to complement the light, blond color of the cabinets which in turn contrast with the cooler stone countertop and gray wooden backsplash. The same wood for the backsplash is then used on the bathroom floor, where it provides a contrast with the simple, white subway tile, sleek silver hanging rods, and white plumbing fixtures.

The client had Oak cabinets, circa 1990 with a raised panel cathedral arch style of door. The cabinets were refinished in a dark stain 5 years ago, which was done professionally. Unfortunately, the finish did not last and was peeling and flaking in numerous locations on the doors and cabinetry. The owners chose to have their existing cabinets refaced with Maple plywood veneer in a CC Café stain. The matching color solid maple doors selected were in a shaker style with a beveled edge detail; the drawer fronts were a solid maple slab type. New base shoe moldings were also added to complete the project. New Blum hinges were installed using Blumotion soft-close hinges. Amerock Antique Silver pulls were chosen to compliment the cabinet refacing project.

In collaboration with custom builder Brian Koehler, who has a vast history of overseeing numerous fire restoration projects, Amanda and Corey Marsh were able to rebuild the interior of their home, maintaining some of the original personality while simultaneously incorporating additional elements that have made this home not only a showcase, but also a place where family and friends can comfortably gather. Using a different color for your island can add interest and make it feel like a free-standing piece of furniture. In this kitchen, designed and installed by Allen's Fine Woodworking, we used Medallion Cabinetry. The main cabinets are maple in Mission door style with White Icing paint. By combining aspects of the original kitchen and dining area with new light gray and white paint, updated cabinetry, slate gray stainless steel appliances and custom lighting created this charming Farmhouse/Country design. Prep and plate meals on the beautiful Cambria Berwyn Quartz countertops. Use the gas stove-top without concern thanks to the new Vent hood blower. Need to plug in? Use anyone of the numerous electric outlets along the original brick half wall. Reach up into the white shaker style cabinets to ceiling for dishware. Wash produce in the large farm sink and look out the picture window, with shiplap made of painted cedar wood, to see the occasional bird or woodland animal. Move across the random width oak hardwood floors over to the Heron Blue Island with butcher block and take a seat on the bar stools to enjoy your meal. Look up to see the fine dishware on display in the upper glass lighted cabinets. The room is illuminated by West Nine Vintage Industrial Work Lights on pulley along with strategic recessed lighting to keep the cozy atmosphere.

This modern credenza would make the perfect storage cabinet in nearly any environment. Smith Brothers 8000 Series has the most customizing options shown on our floor which made designing a sectional for a great room easy. This frame allows you to pick your pieces and build it as small or as big as needed with numerous arm style options as well as fabric/leather choices. A nice alternative option to the traditional cocktail table is an upholstered cocktail ottoman, making putting your feet up much more comfortable.

This interior design detail features a statement brass ceiling light with a scalloped, petal-like design, paired with a vintage-style wall-mounted clock in an aged brass finish. This Cole Porter inspired black and white bath with custom designed roman numeral tiles displays a chic and dramatic flair. Like the "tick-tick-tock" of Porter's clock, the room brings us back to the 1920's.

After the devastating Tubbs fire, Craig reimagined this Calistoga property into a wine country retreat for the owners' family as well as corporate/wellness guests. He approached the design by studying the natural elements of the site including trees, views and light, the vernacular design of the area and the clients’ personality. Craig designed a barn and the house – made up of a one-story and a two-story building – connected by a stunning 20-foot steel and glass breezeway. Expansive doors and windows create seamless indoor/outdoor flow and numerous patios and the pool area provide comfortable outdoor spaces. The modern and warm interior is bright, luxurious and comfortable.

The large, L-shaped kitchen is timeless! With accents of glass in the pendants, as well as the range hood, this luxurious look wins! The range hood provides a focal point that only adds design and function to the kitchen. The transitional kitchen supplies a numerous amount of storage and counter space.

This project is a new 5,900 sf. primary residence for a couple with three children. The site is slightly elevated above the residential street and enjoys winter views of the Potomac River. The family’s requirements included five bedrooms, five full baths, a powder room, family room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, walk-in pantry, mudroom, lower level recreation room, exercise room, media room and numerous storage spaces. Also included was the request for an outdoor terrace and adequate outdoor storage, including provision for the storage of bikes and kayaks. The family needed a home that would have two entrances, the primary entrance, and a mudroom entry that would provide generous storage spaces for the family’s active lifestyle. Due to the small lot size, the challenge was to accommodate the family’s requirements, while remaining sympathetic to the scale of neighboring homes. The residence employs a “T” shaped plan to aid in minimizing the massing visible from the street, while organizing interior spaces around a private outdoor terrace space accessible from the living and dining spaces. A generous front porch and a gambrel roof diminish the home’s scale, providing a welcoming view along the street front. A path along the right side of the residence leads to the family entrance and a small outbuilding that provides ready access to the bikes and kayaks while shielding the rear terrace from view of neighboring homes. The two entrances join a central stair hall that leads to the eat-in kitchen overlooking the great room. Window seats and a custom built banquette provide gathering spaces, while the French doors connect the great room to the terrace where the arbor transitions to the garden. A first floor guest suite, separate from the family areas of the home, affords privacy for both guests and hosts alike. The second floor Master Suite enjoys views of the Potomac River through a second floor arched balcony visible from the front. The exterior is composed of a board and batten first floor with a cedar shingled second floor and gambrel roof. These two contrasting materials and the inclusion of a partially recessed front porch contribute to the perceived diminution of the home’s scale relative to its smaller neighbors. Two cabinet colors, too beautiful! This kitchen remodel in Long Beach, New York state, is both traditional and unexpected. Lori Kurn, a designer for Coastal Cabinet Works, skillfully employed green walls, cream accents, and dark cherry cabinets to create this beautiful kitchen. Lori specified Fieldstone Cabinetry's Bainbridge door style in Cherry finished in a color called Chestnut with Ebony glaze for the perimeter cabinets. This was an excellent choice to anchor the numerous subtle color transitions in this kitchen.
