When Casework first met this 550 square foot attic space in a 1912 Seattle Craftsman home, it was dated and not functional. The homeowners wanted to transform their existing master bedroom and bathroom to include more practical closet and storage space as well as add a nursery. Drab looking with worn out cabinets and a shower that was too small, it didn’t fit their modern vision for the space. Working with Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, they came up with a plan to enlarge the bathroom, stealing space from the master bedroom. The new design includes a much larger shower, the addition of a walk-in shower and more. And the results are nothing less than stunning. A new, frameless glass shower stall is equipped with a steam unit, body sprays, rain shower head, and thermostatic valve and control. A double-sided fireplace overlooks a large whirlpool tub (also visible from the master bedroom). Modern wall hanger espresso finish vanities are topped with a marble top and his and her tumbled marble vessel sinks. Two tall linen cabinets bookend the vanity for additional storage. A recessed mirror with back lighting effect was also installed. Large 20” × 20” white marble floor and walls with dark metallic tile were placed on featured walls for added effects. The floors in both the bathroom and closet are heated. An enlarged doorway from bathroom to walk-in closet offers double French glass doors which are pocketed for better traffic flow. Built-in closet systems are his and hers with matching cherry espresso finish cabinetry covered by obscure glass doors and a touch pad lighting system. The middle island features shoe racks and tie and socks storage. Clean, streamlined and functional, the homeowners love this award-winning space.

The L-shaped staircase obscures initial views into the two story great room, for a more dramatic reveal around the corner. Storage space is maximized in this floor plan - with tucked-in coat closets downstairs and linen closets upstairs.

Photo: Michael K. Wilkinson The reason for the open plan was to maintain natural light throughout the attic. However, the bathroom was a challenge because it has privacy walls. Our designer opted to use continuous clerestory glass panels that wrap around the corner of the bathroom enclosure. These custom glass pieces allow light to flow from the dormers and skylight into the bathroom. The bathroom door is frosted to maintain privacy but also let in natural light. The modern bathroom has a floating dark wood vanity that provides plenty of storage including a laundry basket. The toilet is in a separate room for privacy.

Brett Hilton: Designed for a young family in Newport's Dover Shores community. The Indoors blend seamlessly with the exterior. A small pool with integrated sun-deck and automatic cover take up about 1/3 of the backyard. BBQ, Fire feature with built-in seating and modest turf area complete the space. Bold Cactus, succulents and sub-tropical foliage create a verdant and cooling effect while using very little water. In the front yard, Large Olives were brought in to obscure the master bedroom which sits 20' from the street. A masonry and white plaster rendered wall create a private entry courtyard dotted with Agaves, Echeverias, grasses and sun-grown Dracaena marginata.

Laundry room - mid-sized transitional laundry room idea in Seattle

This shower is a curbless shower with a wall to wall linear drain at the far end. The drain is a trough that is decorated with black beach pebble. The fixed shower glass is fastened with U-channels rather than clamps so we get a clean uninterrupted line around the glass. The freestanding tub is centered under a long niche.

A mountain modern residence situated in the Gallatin Valley of Montana. Our modern aluminum door adds just the right amount of flair to this beautiful home designed by FORMation Architecture. The Circle F Residence has a beautiful mixture of natural stone, wood and metal, creating a home that blends flawlessly into it’s environment. The modern door design was selected to complete the home with a warm front entrance. This signature piece is designed with horizontal cutters and a wenge wood handle accented with stainless steel caps. The obscure glass was chosen to add natural light and provide privacy to the front entry of the home. Performance was also factor in the selection of this piece; quad pane glass and a fully insulated aluminum door slab offer high performance and protection from the extreme weather. This distinctive modern aluminum door completes the home and provides a warm, beautiful entry way.
