This coastal garden is located 4 hours north of Sydney. This garden has been an ongoing project for Secret Gardens over the last decade. The original brief was for a ‘mini botanic garden’ which proved a challenge on a site with little tree or vegetation cover and limited top soil. The plantings are 95% native, from the establishing rainforest where over 25 varieties of trees have been used to the drier areas where Callistemon, Kangaroo Paw and ornamental grasses have been used in large swathes. The result now is an established garden that will continue to evolve and provide great enjoyment for our clients.

This was an ongoing project for an amazing couple. Included was a custom-designed rustic kitchen featuring Maritime Beach wood throughout, custom Island, solid wood rangehood and matching pantry door. We also installed a rough sawn Douglas Fir stair railing with rebar details, custom laundry room cabinetry and three bathroom vanities. What an amazing home!

“The Hill Country has a strong tradition of design using its local materials and simple regional forms,” says Dallas architect Stephen Chambers. In this region of Texas, local means limestone, and the regional forms of steeply pitched metal roofs, deep porches, and wide overhangs. To create the look of a ranch house that has evolved over the years, Steve broke the house into a series of wings. Varied rooflines, window configurations, and dormers also enhance the feeling of an ongoing expansion. Photo © 2019 Peter Larsen.
