We were invited to participate in the 2019 Montecito Designer Showhouse for Montecito Life magazine. Our team designed the master suite including the master bedroom, bathroom, and connecting hallway. We gave both spaces a bohemian, natural, and sophisticated feel. The focal point of the master bedroom is the 6ft mirror hung on the wall next to the bed. It is a breathtaking design feature, and it makes the room feel larger. To make sure that the room feels completely bespoke, we worked with a local wood fabricator to make an accent wall out of angled wood pieces that were painted the same color as the surrounding room. This accent wall is right at the entrance to the master suite, so it sets the tone for a unique and gorgeous space. This year’s Designer Showhouse was another great opportunity to give back to our Montecito community while showcasing our work as a fully integrated interior design studio. This time around, we participated in the first Home & Garden Designer Showcase by creating the lounge, bar area, and powder room of a nearly 6,000 square foot home in the neighborhood. The beautiful MARIA LAURA table from our SORELLA furniture line provides a joyful centerpiece to the seating area and shows how flexible and outside-the-box our furniture designs can be. The distinct piano bench, also one of our designs, gives the space a sophisticated touch, and pillows from our MB Home Collection provide a perfect complement to the plush chairs. 234,000 sq ft of pre-finished reclaimed heart pine flooring was recently selected for the residences at Pierhouse at Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, NY opening 2016. The color of choice is "Pierhouse" white. Pierhouse is the centuries-long culmination of development along the Brooklyn waterfront. Once a rural village, then one of the world's busiest ports, and now a renowned park and residential wonderland, Pierhouse is an opportunity to participate in an evolution in the way people think about "home.

This hillside home in Piedmont, CA was remodeled to change the style from a 1940's rancher with eight foot ceilings and dark interiors, into a modern geometric composition with vast white interiors for casual living and generous daylighting for displaying the artist-owner's works. In a city known for rigorous and difficult design review, an addition, two variances, and a full stylistic change were unanimously approved on the first round. All sloped roofs and attics were eliminated and replaced by a series of stacked and overlapping flat roofs. This made the house taller on the inside and shorter on the outside, which helped earn design review cooperation in the community. Windows were concentrated toward the rear yard views or moved up high on the side walls for daylight and privacy, benefitting the owners as well as the neighbors. At the start, the owner husband was so enthusiastic and engaged in transforming his house into something modern that he presented the architect with a scaled foamcore model, rather than the usual magazine clippings and wish list. He participated in the design decisions throughout the process. The owner wife is the artist who did all the artwork in the house. She had been craving a display space with large walls and good natural light. Both of them loved the location and great views. The project was an opportunity to transform the style of an older traditional home into a modern one, while solving numerous problems. By rebuilding the 1800 ft2 top of the 3-story home it was possible to change the style of the whole building, since the lower floors were a neutral base, and also to change the lifestyle of the owners, who wanted to move their master suite upstairs and live primarily on the top floor as empty nesters. Going into the project, the architect knew there were multiple encroachments into the setbacks and potential privacy issues with close by neighbors. He approached this as a complex puzzle made up of architectural and political pieces which all had to fit together elegantly. It took many careful moves, small and large, to arrive at a serene and cohesive result that tied old and new together seamlessly. The design-build contractor worked closely with the owners and handled all of the construction phase documents and design adjustments, adding ideas of their own to make the project really sing. The project was a collaboration in three acts. The owner had a strong design concept from the start. The architect developed it into a realistic project and garnered the design approvals. Then the contractor executed brilliantly

Ca. 1919 Craftsman Style Home, Revisioned by the South’s Leading Designers Twenty‐two leading interior designers from three different states completely restored this historic home on Franklin’s historic Main Street as part of the O’More Show House, which was opened to the public from May 12‐27, 2016 and presented by leading sponsor, PARKS. This is the third O’More Show House event in recent years, with participating designers having ties to O’More College of Design in downtown Franklin and proceeds benefiting the College’s School of Interior Design. The 2016 home, a 5,200 square‐foot ca. 1919 brick and stucco Craftsman‐style cottage, is a significant contributing property to the National Register‐listed Hincheyville Historic District. The owners have undertaken a total renovation of the home’s interior while leaving the street‐view exterior intact. We were recommended to project managers and O'More College for the entire landscape design and installation: landscaping, irrigation, lighting, paver walks and patios, paver-raised porch with steps, paver banding in driveway!

An existing outdated back porch structure was removed and replaced with a larger outdoor living area designed to truly fit this family’s current lifestyle. It encompasses the entire back of the house with a low sloping vaulted ceiling and is accessible from all spaces. Special emphasis was given to the kitchen area where grandchildren participate in cooking the catch of the day from family fishing trips! Dining and sitting spaces are also provided with a fireplace that can be viewed through French doors from the Living Room. The master suite is updated with a modernized bathroom that features a walk-in tub and a large accessible shower.

While the footprint of this kitchen is large, the past layout crammed the most used fixtures, stove and sink and dishwasher, into one tight corner. Plus, the past layout made for a bottleneck at the back entry, the family’s most used entrance. The homeowners had gotten so used to making the best of it that they simply came to Castle wanting their Kitchen updated, not necessarily a new layout. Even so, their designer, Ashley, saw potential and made a proposal for a new layout. The new layout required four steps to be relocated. This tweak gave room for a half wall to be built which provided a backdrop for the new sink and dishwasher location. The stove was also moved to be in the new, central kitchen space. With these moves the Kitchen became an open area where many people can participate in meal preparation. The area which had previously housed the stove, sink and dishwasher is now a large pantry cabinet and built in desk. Down from there is the new back entry which now gives a larger landing area for the family to come in, hang jackets and bags and leave shoes. All in all, this remodel has been a game changer for this family and the way they use their home.

Build by Bremik Constructions, the project was sustainably designed to meet the Earth Advantage Gold standards. Bremik successfully exceeded the 20% MWESB utilization goal with 22.2% participation. Garage - 1950s garage idea

Our client was first introduced to our work when participating in the "Prairie Urban Garden" Tour put on by the Oldman Watershed Council (OWC). Their desire was to have their own "water conscious" landscape created for their new home. The Xeriscpe design was created using plant material that would have interest throughout all 4 seasons and the flagstone material was chosen to reflect the natural style the client desired.
