This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. This beautiful French Provincial home is set on 10 acres, nestled perfectly in the oak trees. The original home was built in 1974 and had two large additions added; a great room in 1990 and a main floor master suite in 2001. This was my dream project: a full gut renovation of the entire 4,300 square foot home! I contracted the project myself, and we finished the interior remodel in just six months. The exterior received complete attention as well. The 1970s mottled brown brick went white to completely transform the look from dated to classic French. Inside, walls were removed and doorways widened to create an open floor plan that functions so well for everyday living as well as entertaining. The white walls and white trim make everything new, fresh and bright. It is so rewarding to see something old transformed into something new, more beautiful and more functional.

Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary built-in desk medium tone wood floor home office remodel with yellow walls and no fireplace

The lounge or billiards room is a perfect overflow area when the homeowner's are entertaining, but it needed freshening up, so we painted the walls White Dove, swapped a dated fan for a new chandelier and added accent furniture to make the room more usable. The original baseboards, window and door trim are accentuated by the crisp white walls, paying homage to the details that make this historic home so special.

It’s not often you find a Palm Springs inspired home in the middle of the Pacific Northwest, so we wanted to play up and pay tribute to those original details. We ripped out the dated drapery, leaving the floor to ceiling windows bare for maximum lightness and brightness and allowing the turquoise blue pool to take center stage. Photography: Josh Partee
