This is part of a whole home remodel we completed and featured in the Home Builder's Association Showcase of Remodeled Homes. This room is probably the biggest transformation in the whole home. What was previously an unused garage in the home, will now become a mudroom and entertainment area for the home. We removed non-structural walls at the entry to the rest of the home to allow for more flow from the home into the room. The utility room previously was not actually large enough for the utilities, and there was a hole cut into the wall to allow the unit to fit. To resolve this issue the wall of the utility room was brought out into the space. Additionally, the plumbing and drainage for the water softner was not properly drained from the room and just went through small pvc pipes (that you can see in the photo) that went over the floor to a hole in the center of the room. The plumbing and drainage was completely rebuilt and re-plumbed through the ceilings to drain properly into the house lines. The room also used to be a step down into the garage, so once the plumbing was adjusted a new slab was poured to bring it up to the same level. Heating and electrical were brought into the room to make it a livable space. Can lighting was installed to bring in light without affecting the ceiling height. This Bainbridge Island, WA Master Bathroom remodel made quite a transformation from the old existing bathroom. We were able to open up the wall between the main bathroom and shower/ toilet areas. A half wall was formed from the existing wall adding a decorative glass panel above it. Keeping part of the wall to create a beam appearance to attach a sliding glass barn door hardware to. In the shower wall, we added a window with the same decorative glass and made the wall thicker to create a shower seat and hide ducting and plumbing pipes. Avoiro colored porcelain tiles in the 12x24 size were installed on the floor and shower walls with a random glass and stone mosaic cut into strips to form a decorative listello liner detail. The sleek contemporary style cabinets are from DeWil's Custom Cabinetry Horizon line, Capella door style in Bamboo with 112 Stain. We also added a matching tall linen cabinet and makeup vanity area across the room from the bath vanity. The vanity top and wall cap are Pental Quartz/ color: Sandcastle.

We installed a new Rinnai Tankless water heater. We installed isolation valves for access to do proper maintenance, we also added an expansion tank to help prevent build up of high pressure in the system. We installed a new a descaler to help reduce lime and all waters scale. New shut off valves were installed on water and gas supply lines going to the tankless water heater. We installed a new sediment trap on the water heater to prevent sediments in the gas pipe from getting into the tankless water heater.

This 1949 South Minneapolis home had an underutilized, unwelcoming basement with old, dark paneling in the family room, and an unfinished laundry, storage and work shop area. Headroom was at a premium because of low hanging duct work, plumbing and gas lines.Castle Building & Remodeling transformed this basement by creating a much more welcoming, well-lit and functional family room, with an added egress window, built-in storage units and a media area with a flat screen TV. Duct work and piping in the unfinished half of the basement was raised or consolidated to give adequate headroom for a bright and spacious new laundry area. A new 3/4 bath completes the package, along with a built-in linen cabinet in the finished hallway. Storage areas were consolidated in separate areas of the basement with their own access doors. The family now eagerly uses the basement space as a regular part of their home, no longer dreading the trip down to the ‘cellar’.

XS residence is a living concept proposal for singles. The project is characterized by its L-shaped, elevated floor. The height differences on the floor as well as on the ceiling are the sole elements that define the space. The apartment is hence transparent, yet given the sense of rooms and corners. This former warehouse has existing pipes cutting through the interior at the entry where it resulted in stairs and undesirable, immediate climbs. By embracing the obstacle and extending it, the reading of the new, one bedroom apartment is as pure as lines (flows) and surfaces (spaces). The heart of the radial layout is a sunken gathering platform. This introvert space is embraced by the elevated floor, which serves as the extension of seating, The visitors thereby sit naturally facing each other and converse. The elevated outer ring is an active, fluid platform which receives visitors. At its height, the dinning guests have a great view toward the city skyline which is otherwise hindered. This space also creates a buffer to the exterior where neighbors pass by. The renovation removed the old flat ceiling, exposing the pitched roof structure to enhance the scale change of the space. The apartment is at its maximum height where activities and interactions take place and shrinks at the perimeter. It is an open layout with sense of spaces and intimacy.

This residence is a renovation of a traditional landscape into a contemporary garden. Custom contemporary steel planters complement the steel detailing on the home and offer an opportunity to highlight unique native plant species. A large front yard living space offers easy socialization with this active neighborhood. The spectacular salvaged 15ft Organ Pipe Cactus grabs your eye as you enter the residence and anchors the contemporary garden. The back terrace has been designed to create inviting entertainment areas that overlook the golf course as well as protected private dining areas. A large family gathering spot is nestled between the pool and centered around the concrete fire pit. The relaxing spa has a negative edge that falls as a focal point towards the master bedroom. A secluded private dining area off of the kitchen incorporates a steel louver wall that can be opened and closed providing both privacy from adjacent neighbors and protection from the wind. After returning from a winter trip to discover his house had been flooded by a burst second-floor pipe, this homeowner was ready to address the renovations and additions that he had been pondering for about a decade. It was important to him to respect the original character of the c. +/- 1910 two-bedroom small home that had been in his family for years, while re-imagining the kitchen and flow. In response, KHS proposed a one-story addition, recalling an enclosed porch, which springs from the front roof line and then wraps the house to the north. An informal front dining space, complete with built-in banquette, occupies the east end of the addition behind large double-hung windows sized to match those on the original house, and a new kitchen occupies the west end of the addition behind smaller casement windows at counter height. New French doors to the rear allow the owner greater access to an outdoor room edged by the house to the east, the existing one-car garage to the south, and a rear rock wall to the west. Much of the lot to the north was left open for the owner’s annual summer volley ball party. The first-floor was then reconfigured, capturing additional interior space from a recessed porch on the rear, to create a rear mudroom entrance hall, full bath, and den, which could someday function as a third bedroom if needed. Upstairs, a rear shed dormer was extended to the north and east so that head room could be increased, rendering more of the owner’s office/second bedroom usable. Windows and doors were relocated as necessary to better serve the new plan and to capture more daylight. Kitchen - industrial kitchen idea in Minneapolis

These clients had already remodeled their kitchen and master bath and wanted to add additional living space to their already beautiful backyard. They had plenty of space between the back of their house and the pool to fit a large outdoor kitchen and entertaining space. We demoed the overhang, rafters, shingles and decking as needed to accept new joists, frame and new roof. We framed out the trim overhang to match the existing house, so that you couldn't tell the difference. Oklahoma Flagstone was used for the new portion of deck. The outer edge of stone from the existing deck was removed to tie in with new deck, so again, the addition was seamless. A new gas line was run from the existing pool equipment to the new grill and a secondary area was made off of the pipe that can be tied on to for future use. Three GFCI plugs were installed in outdoor kitchen area; one in the back splash, one for the refrigerator and one for grill. The clients purchased two outdoor ceiling fans that we also installed to keep the area cool in the heat of the summer. End the end, the new exterior new soffit, trim, fascia and gutters were painted and the columns were stained to match the existing exterior. This 16’x32' freeform gunite swimming pool custom constructed in Massapequa NY. The pool shell consists of 10" concrete walls and an 8" concrete floor. The pool was shot with gunite cement, over 6" of over sized gravel base, 12 inches on center, 1/2” rebar metal cage and 6" apart center rods in any areas that the pool is deeper than 48”. All plumbing is done with 2" hard PVC schedule 40 piping. All of the equipment is Hayward including 400,000 BTU gas heater, a salt chlorine generator, ozone system, pumps, and cartridge filter. The pool is 46" to 66" deep which makes it a non-diving pool. In the deep end of the pool, there is a bench with special jets through which air and water are pushed at a higher speed to create a spa effect. Porcelain pool tiles were installed at the water line; the finish of the pool is cool blue diamond bright quartz. The steps and benches were highlighted with diamond shaped 2”x2” tiles. The coping patio and raised patio wall were created with Nicolock products. 6”x12" bullnose, ridge stone patio pavers with brown inlays and mini colonial walls and caps are all in travertine color. This Gunite swimming pool was built by Gappsi in Roslyn heights Ny 11755. The pool size is 15x30 With stadium stairs in the shallow area, and one swim out benches on one side of deep end. Pool depth is 6 feet, which makes this Gunite swimming pool is a non-diving pool. This Gunite swimming pool also has an automated safety cover, this feature allows the pool area to be open to the rest of the yard and fencing around the pool is not requested thus making the pool patio more accessible and functional. This safety cover also functions as a solar cover, keeping the water warmer without the use of the heater. The auto cover can also be used as a winter cover, while keeping the swimming pool safe in the winter; it also keeps clean, avoiding drilling ugly holes in the patio stones if you decide to install a mash cover. The plumbing was done using 2 inches 40 schedule hard pvc pipes, this allows water to flow and filtered fester. The pool plaster finish consists of French gray diamond bright quarts. Unlike Marble dust quarts plaster is a much harder material making the finish of this Gunite swimming pool last 2 or 3 times longer with the proper maintenance. A 6 inches gray porcelain tiles bend was installed to The top perimeter of the pool walls, the tiles line is used to avoid the water in the pool to create a mark on the walls , the porcelain tiles are frost and whether resistant and pool water level is set to be at the center of the tiles. The pool coping used is the fiorito travertine 2 inches thick random pattern and the patio pavers are fiorito travertine French pattern all from the Gappsi natural stone products selection. The equipment is Totally Hayward, pump, Filter and heater, to keep the water sanitized a salt chlorine generator and an ozone system were installed, the combination of these 2 will keep water free of alleges and impurities easily and automatically thus making this a maintenance and Chemicals free Gunite swimming pool. The back yard patio outdoor kitchen and raised patio all paved with fiorito travertine pavers and veneer products. We took our clients home to the next level. A touch of glamour from every vantage point and a custom crafted the hood center stage finished in stainless and accented with matte brass. Sitting snuggly next to the custom hood are wall cabinets in a two-toned finish with X mullions. The inserts in the wall cabinets where chosen to be an antique mirror to add a big of glam but also to keep the mess hidden behind the door.
