Placed second in the Best Pivot Door Contest 2024, it is really in prime position to show what advanced hardware can do when elevated by master craftsmanship.

Bifold & Pivot Doors by Komandor. Some spaces can be really challenging but Komandor always has a solution for your design challenges. Closing off spaces for washers and dryers are particularly notorious when it comes to doors. Ideally, you want to have access to all the space without having to worry about moving doors around. This combination of sliding bifold doors and a pivot door are the perfect solution! The bifold door has dual functionality…it can bifold and also slide. The pivot door is made with matching frame and insert and blends seamlessly into the space. In this position the door can move in a folded position left to right giving you access to the full space.

Transforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.

When the murphy bed in the den is in it’s upright position, the custom dark wood millwork becomes a feature wall. The artwork displayed on the wall acts as a handle to pull down the murphy bed. To the right is a pivot wall that closes to create guest privacy.

The pivoting hardware was custom made for us by a machine shop that are specialists in marine and aeronautical work. It is made up of a bottom and top bearing system with steel extension supports and 3/4" thick stainless steel pins. The bookshelf is 300lbs, but can be swiveled by a 5 year old child with no effort. There are rubber wives casters that add extra support on the end, but they are barely touching the hardwood flooring. Client is extremely happy. I had several sleepless nights wondering if this would work..
