We loved teaming up with Charlotte-based designer Hadley Quisenberry of West Trade Interiors to transform what was once a small, underused playroom into a space tweens and teens actually want to hang out in. The family wasn’t using the room much before, but now it’s packed with possibilities — a place to move, imagine, and create.
Even in a compact footprint, we made room for both gross motor elements and quiet-time zones. From climbing features to a cozy desk setup perfect for homework, drawing, or dream journaling, the design encourages kids to express themselves however they need to in the moment.
This was a room meant to grow with the family — and it absolutely will.

This early 90's contemporary home was in need of some major updates and when my clients purchased it they were ready to make it their own. The home features large open rooms, great natural light and stunning views of Lake Washington. These clients love bold vibrant colors and clean modern lines so the goal was to incorporate those in the design without it overwhelming the space. Balance was key. The end goal was for the home to feel open and airy yet warm and inviting. This was achieved by bringing in punches of color to an otherwise white or neutral palate. Texture and visual interest were achieved throughout the house through the use of wallpaper, fabrics, and a few one of a kind artworks.

Client wanted a warm , casual beachy feel so by incorporating some reclaimed wood and light colors on the walls and upholstery it gave her the aesthetic she wanted
The living room has soaring cathedral ceilings with lots of natural light. The kitchen was redone to allow a better flow with custom cabinets and ope floor plan with family room. The addition of a wall of cabinets in the playroom afforded these clients the much needed storage space their home was lacking, and helps to keep the playroom tidy!

The soaring cathedral ceilings and warm exposed beams were the only features to speak of in this non-descript open landing. Off the hallway near the kids’ rooms, its small size and open layout made it something in between a hallway and a room. While most might consider a TV or office nook for this space, its adjacency to the children’s quarters inspired the designer toward something more imaginative. Inspired by the bright open space, this design achieves a sort of Balinese treehouse aesthetic – and all of it is designed specifically for fun.
Playful hanging beds swing freely on sisal rope, creating a beckoning space that draws in children and adults alike. The mattresses were filled especially with non-toxic, non-petroleum natural fiber fill to make them healthy to sleep and lounge on – and encased in removable, washable organic cotton slipcovers. As the children are young, the floor space (finished in non-toxic lacquer) is kept clear and available for sprawling play. Large storage benches topped with walnut seats keep toys and books well organized, and ready for action at any time.

THEME This room is dedicated to supporting and encouraging the young artist in art and music. From the hand-painted instruments decorating the music corner to
the dedicated foldaway art table, every space is tailored to the creative spirit, offering a place to be inspired, a nook to relax or a corner to practice. This environment
radiates energy from the ground up, showering the room in natural, vibrant color.
FOCUS A majestic, floor-to-ceiling tree anchors the space, boldly transporting the beauty of nature into the house--along with the fun of swinging from a tree branch,
pitching a tent or reading under the beautiful canopy. The tree shares pride of place with a unique, retroinspired
room divider housing a colorful padded nook perfect for
reading, watching television or just relaxing.
STORAGE Multiple storage options are integrated to accommodate the family’s eclectic interests and
varied needs. From hidden cabinets in the floor to movable shelves and storage bins, there is room
for everything. The two wardrobes provide generous storage capacity without taking up valuable floor
space, and readily open up to sweep toys out of sight. The myWall® panels accommodate various shelving options and bins that can all be repositioned as needed. Additional storage and display options are strategically
provided around the room to store sheet music or display art projects on any of three magnetic panels.
GROWTH While the young artist experiments with media or music, he can also adapt this space to complement his experiences. The myWall® panels promote easy transformation and expansion, offer unlimited options, and keep shelving at an optimum height as he grows. All the furniture rolls on casters so the room can sustain the
action during a play date or be completely re-imagined if the family wants a makeover.
SAFETY The elements in this large open space are all designed to enfold a young boy in a playful, creative and safe place. The modular components on the myWall® panels are all locked securely in place no matter what they store. The custom drop-down table includes two safety latches to prevent unintentional opening. The floor drop doors are all equipped with slow glide closing hinges so no fingers will be trapped.
