Kitchen flows easily into breakfast area, den and outside patio. Cabinetry design includes Brookhaven frameless cabinetry in maple wood with an opaque finish. Appliances used in this space include (2) refrigerator/freezer units, 60" range, custom wood hood, microwave drawer, trash compactor, dishwasher, refrigerator drawers & wine refrigerator. (2) islands aid in separation of space and function. Countertops are Statuario White Extra Marble in a honed finish.

It’s always a blessing when your clients become friends - and that’s exactly what blossomed out of this two-phase remodel (along with three transformed spaces!). These clients were such a joy to work with and made what, at times, was a challenging job feel seamless. This project consisted of two phases, the first being a reconfiguration and update of their master bathroom, guest bathroom, and hallway closets, and the second a kitchen remodel. In keeping with the style of the home, we decided to run with what we called “traditional with farmhouse charm” – warm wood tones, cement tile, traditional patterns, and you can’t forget the pops of color! The master bathroom airs on the masculine side with a mostly black, white, and wood color palette, while the powder room is very feminine with pastel colors. When the bathroom projects were wrapped, it didn’t take long before we moved on to the kitchen. The kitchen already had a nice flow, so we didn’t need to move any plumbing or appliances. Instead, we just gave it the facelift it deserved! We wanted to continue the farmhouse charm and landed on a gorgeous terracotta and ceramic hand-painted tile for the backsplash, concrete look-alike quartz countertops, and two-toned cabinets while keeping the existing hardwood floors. We also removed some upper cabinets that blocked the view from the kitchen into the dining and living room area, resulting in a coveted open concept floor plan. Our clients have always loved to entertain, but now with the remodel complete, they are hosting more than ever, enjoying every second they have in their home.

After: A second-floor addition, along with a new porch and garage. We were able to add a master suite, secondary bedroom and bath, a front porch and rear screened porch, a new 9-foot ceiling on the first floor, a new shingle roof, and charming copper rain chains.

This scullery kitchen is located near the garage entrance to the home and the utility room. It is one of two kitchens in the home. The more formal entertaining kitchen is open to the formal living area. This kitchen provides an area for the bulk of the cooking and dish washing. It can also serve as a staging area for caterers when needed. We increased the first floor ceiling height from 8 to 9 feet and added coffers to add architectural interest and carefully planned the location of the recessed lights within the grid. It was important for the family that the stairs to the bedrooms be located near the living areas, so instead of stacking stairs to the new second floor over the existing stairs to the basement, the designer placed them near the family room. The designer took the family’s comfort into consideration and created a landing for the stairway. A new window above the two-story stairwell brings in natural light. The under-stair area is fitted with open shelves for decorations and books.

Looking at this home today, you would never know that the project began as a poorly maintained duplex. Luckily, the homeowners saw past the worn façade and engaged our team to uncover and update the Victorian gem that lay underneath. Taking special care to preserve the historical integrity of the 100-year-old floor plan, we returned the home back to its original glory as a grand, single family home. The project included many renovations, both small and large, including the addition of a a wraparound porch to bring the façade closer to the street, a gable with custom scrollwork to accent the new front door, and a more substantial balustrade. Windows were added to bring in more light and some interior walls were removed to open up the public spaces to accommodate the family’s lifestyle. The new design expanded the footprint of the home to 1,271 square feet for the first level and 1,156 for the new second level. A new entry with a quarter turn stair leads you into the original living space. The old guest bedroom that was once accessed through the dining room is now connected to the front living space by pocket doors.
