This project is a client case study of a homeowner living in The Hague, Netherlands. The client's residence is a 180-square-meter detached villa. Originally from Vietnam, they immigrated to the Netherlands and settled in a picturesque town in The Hague. With a passion for tea culture, the entire house is styled in a modern fusion of Chinese and Japanese influences, predominantly featuring white and black-gray furniture, and even includes a dedicated tea room. The client reached out to us via Facebook, seeking recommendations and assistance in selecting suitable lighting fixtures for their dining area. We discussed their floor plan and desired style in detail. Firstly, considering the spaciousness of their villa, the dining area required ambient lighting rather than a central overhead light. We suggested incorporating pendant lights, spotlights, or strip lights to enhance the overall atmosphere. Secondly, their home decor adopted a minimalist approach, primarily using a black-white-gray color scheme, making vibrant and colorful lighting fixtures unsuitable. Ultimately, we recommended the PH5 pendant light in a white color, featuring a Nordic modern design, to the client. Upon receiving the product, the client expressed their satisfaction, stating that the chosen lighting fixture perfectly matched their requirements. 1202 on Jag Close was a beautiful modern home completed for a young couple looking to put down roots in the coastal town of Langebaan. The Langebaan Country Estate offered all they needed with ample natural spaces around them, and the golf course right on their doorstep for the avid golfer. Whilst the plot faces the predominant wind, we utilized the use of multiple large windows and sliding doors that overlook the views, while the home also has a private West facing enclosed garden accessible from the lounge area. All 3-bedrooms situated at the back of the house include modern and classic finishes that ensure for a timeless overall look and feel.

The space combines minimalist architecture, natural materials and soft neutral tones to create a calm and timeless atmosphere. Full-height glazing brings the garden directly into the composition, while the impressive ceiling height emphasizes the generous scale of the living area. Seen from the lounge, the high interior is defined by a light palette and carefully coordinated textures. A large, deep upholstered sofa in warm beige occupies the foreground, accompanied by a folded textured throw and soft cushions. In front of it, two low round coffee tables create a layered arrangement, with a sculptural wooden bowl providing a simple decorative accent. A large woven rug extends across the seating zone, introducing a subtle tactile pattern and visually anchoring the furniture against the light oak herringbone floor. The television is presented as a freestanding element on a slim black floor stand rather than mounted directly onto the wall, giving the arrangement a lighter and more architectural appearance. Next to the television, a freestanding black wood-burning stove stands on its own protective glass hearth. Its compact, traditional form and visible flame introduce a strong dark accent and a sense of warmth against the predominantly white and beige surroundings. The contrast between the black stove, television stand and pale finishes gives the room a crisp contemporary character without losing its residential feel. Large windows and glazed doors fill the background with daylight and provide a direct view towards the greenery outside. White vertical blinds soften the extensive glazing, while the light-filled garden becomes a natural backdrop for the neutral interior. The combination of the tall living space, textured wall cladding, freestanding television, wood-burning stove, soft sofa and natural timber flooring illustrates the refined yet comfortable approach to modern interiors developed by STUDIO KONDE, an interior architecture studio in Poznań.

Starting Each Day Clean and Refreshed In This Classically-Modern, Marble Masterpiece In 1985, the previous owner of the house had added an addition of which part included a 17 feet by 13 feet space off the master bedroom for both a master bath and walk-in closet. Irrespective of the dated red carpet that blanketed the entire bathroom of this 1964 colonial in Annandale, VA, the combination bathroom/closet space had its other oddities, primarily in that there was no shower. The current homeowners -- a family of five, who has been in the home for 7 years, was tired of going down the hall to use the kids’ bathroom to take a shower before work. The renovation that they have created now is a bright and luxurious space that one could bask in all day. They used this bathroom renovation opportunity to total remake the layout and function of this essential room that sets the tone for the day ahead. Prior to the renovation, the existing bathroom oddly had two entrances, a typical one off of the master bedroom, but another straight off the upstairs hallway. As the toilet was out in the open in the previous design, ensuring that this second door was closed when company was in town was essential and a nuisance. As you entered the room, situated below the arc window, a large soaking tub that was covered on three sides with wooden steps dominated the room from the corner it projected. A relatively small 42” single bowl sink did not leave much space for his and hers toiletries, and there was no other linen closet or cabinetry for storage in the bathroom. The 8 foot by 5 foot closet with accordion doors had poorly laid out rungs not letting the storage space to be fully utilized. At over 220 square feet, the room did offer considerable space to work with, yet the existing layout, which even included a partition wall behind the vanity, felt cramped and dysfunctional. The homeowners wished to create a classic yet modern, private, deluxe bathroom that would better integrate into their master suite and enable them to start and end each day in a luxurious way. They wanted to maintain having a soaking tub, add in a large shower, have an enclosed commode, expand to include double sinks, and add more storage for toiletries and linens. We worked with the customer to develop a creative design with extensive plumbing rework that accomplished all these needs and more. The first order of business was to gut out all the carpet, tub, cabinetry, and non-load bearing partition walls. The new tub would be generally in the same location, but as the previous walk-in closet would be repurposed for the commode and the walk-in shower additional water lines, plumbing, and draining needed to be added; fortunately the room below is the garage, which enabled the team to frame out some bulkheads to accomplish this complex plumbing. Following the framing, including walling up the second entrance to the bathroom, adding in a pocket door for the commode, and creating the shape of the new shower, the team also laid down the wiring for one of the luxuries of this room – heated flooring. A glossy percaline boarder, and two-inch hexagon shape percaline tiles cover the entire floor, making it much easier and cleaner than the previous carpet. Marble look tile is predominant throughout the bathroom as despite the angled frameless glass door, the entire shower is covered in 18 inch polished marble look tiles. The shower coats the user in water from either the overhead rain head, large main showerhead and/or the hand held sprayer. Over 7 feet of white Italian Statuetto marble countertop, enable the couple to have two sink bowls and plenty of room on each side. The bowls are exposed in this stainless steel console sink design which required the team to ensure that the exposed plumbing looked pristine, and painting the bottom of the porcelain bowl to match the coloring. The white cast-iron 72-inch Cecilia claw-foot soaking tub and its chrome lion’s paws complement that other chrome and white used throughout the room. A tall, almost floor-to-ceiling linen closet finished in arctic white is nestled in the corner near the tub, enabling ample storage of towels, etc. Other cabinetry includes an 18 inch-wide vanity with decorative footing is centered between the two sinks, and a 27 inch wall mounted cabinet with shelf is above the Kohler Devonshire elongated toilet. Billowing cloud colored grey blue paint was a great choice for this room to pick up on the veining in the marble. Mirrored medicine chests, a chandelier, wall sconces, and overhead recessed lighting also were incorporated into the design and function of the new room. The artful combination of classic design from material choices, such as free-standing Victorian claw-foot tub along with the modern design as seen in the angled shower, frameless medicine cabinet mirrors, and frosted glass pocket door on the commode, make this bathroom quite a masterpiece. The clients are enjoying having their private space and not having the use the kids’ bathroom anymore.

An historic Spanish Colonial residence built in 1925 being redesigned and furnished for a modern-day Southern California family was the challenge. The interiors of the main house needed the backgrounds set and then a timeless collection created for its furnishings. Lifestyle was always a consideration as well as the interiors relating to the strong architecture of the residence. Natural colors such as terra cotta, tans, blues, greens, old red and soft vintage shades were incorporated throughout. Our goal was to maintain the historic character of the residence combining design elements and materials considered classic in Southern California Spanish Colonial architecture. Natural fiber textiles, leathers and woven linens were the predominated upholstery choices. A 7000 square foot basement was added and furnished to provide a gym, Star Wars theater, game areas, spa area and a simulator for indoor golf and other sports. Antiques were selected throughout the world, fine art from major galleries, custom reproductions fabricated in the old-world style. Collectible carpets were selected for the reclaimed hardwood flooring in all the areas. An estancia and garden over the basement were created and furnished with old world designs and materials as reclaimed woods, terra cotta and French limestone flooring.

The villa features two distinct design styles. The ground floor predominantly showcases contemporary elements while the first floor channels a country cottage air. The aesthetic duality stems from the clients’ affinity for rustic design, and the need to create a modish shell for entertaining. The “Middle” volume is where the clients live. Each structure has its own set of exterior details, materials, and colors. The three buildings are oriented to maximize views around a man-made pond and a conserved hefty locus tree. Clean, contemporary lines set the tone for the details throughout the project, creating an appropriate environment for displaying artwork. Maple, bamboo, and painted finishes were the predominant palette, complemented with steel and glass for the stairs. Kitchen details favored cut-away pulls instead of hardware. The shell of the entire home was detailed and constructed with a high degree of energy efficiency in mind. Ultra-insulation was the standard with foam panels, triple glazing, and near passive house standards for construction.

The end result? A chic, welcoming kitchen that's as perfect for cooking up a storm as it is for gathering with loved ones. In this extensive bathroom remodel, a once cluttered and cramped primary bathroom has been meticulously transformed into a spacious and bright oasis. By prioritizing additional storage and leveraging the existing skylight, the space underwent a remarkable renovation without the need for significant structural changes. The skylight was maximized to its full potential by surrounding it with pristine white walls, creating an airy and luminous atmosphere. The introduction of a luxurious marble shower not only adds a touch of sophistication but also contributes to the overall cleanliness and sophistication of the space. Soft gray cabinets and warm wood accents were strategically incorporated to create a bathroom with a serene and welcoming ambiance, evoking a sense of tranquility and comfort. Every detail was meticulously considered, from the placement of storage solutions to the selection of materials, ensuring that the remodeled bathroom exudes both functionality and elegance. The result is a blend of style and practicality, where every aspect of the design works in harmony to create a serene sanctuary where relaxation and rejuvenation are effortlessly embraced.

Good design must reflect the personality of the client. So when siblings purchased studios in Downtown by Philippe Starck, one of the first buildings to herald the revitalization of Manhattan’s Financial District, the aim was to create environments that were truly bespoke. The brother’s tastes jibed synchronously with the insouciant idea of France’s most popular prankster converting a building that once housed the buttoned-up offices of JP Morgan Chase. His collection of Takashi Murakami works, the gallery-like centerpiece of the main area, announces his boldness and flair up front, as do furnishings by Droog, Moooi and, of course Starck, as well as hide rugs and upholstery, and a predominantly red palette. His sister was after something soothing and discreet. So Axis Mundi responded with a neutrals and used glass to carve out a bedroom surrounded by drapes that transform it into a golden cocoon. Hide (albeit less flamboyantly applied) evokes a familial commonality, and built-in furniture and cabinetry optimize space restrictions inherent in studio apartments. This dark, dated, and dull powder room underwent a remarkable transformation, transitioning from a basic pedestal sink to a customized vanity with ample storage. By incorporating wainscoting along the perimeter, the bathroom acquired a touch of elegance and sophistication, making it an inviting and personalized space for guests. Departing from its previous predominantly white color scheme, the room embraced a bold aesthetic with a warm green wall paint and a star-patterned, personality-filled tile floor. Warmth and character were infused into the space through the addition of rich wood accents and luxurious gold fixtures. To evoke a sense of serenity and tranquility, a serene green hue was introduced, further enhancing the room's ambiance and creating a welcoming retreat for guests to enjoy.

The site descends from the street and is privileged with dynamic natural views toward a creek below and beyond. To incorporate the existing landscape into the daily life of the residents, the house steps down to the natural topography. A continuous and jogging retaining wall from outside to inside embeds the structure below natural grade at the front with flush transitions at its rear facade. All indoor spaces open up to a central courtyard which terraces down to the tree canopy, creating a readily visible and occupiable transitional space between man-made and nature. The courtyard scheme is simplified by two wings representing common and private zones - connected by a glass dining “bridge." This transparent volume also visually connects the front yard to the courtyard, clearing for the prospect view, while maintaining a subdued street presence. The staircase acts as a vertical “knuckle,” mediating shifting wing angles while contrasting the predominant horizontality of the house. Crips materiality and detailing, deep roof overhangs, and the one-and-half story wall at the rear further enhance the connection between outdoors and indoors, providing nuanced natural lighting throughout and a meaningful framed procession through the property. The First Ferry has created its own Chinese Garden of Eden in Springs, Dubai. Wong Villa - a peaceful, earthy setting is highlighted with four water pools surrounding the villa gazebo to create a sense of earthy homeliness. The landscaping is enhanced with simple pink flowers that add a color contrast to the predominately white theme layout. Bamboo plants by the walls, complement the beige exteriors and are also deeply linked with Chinese philosophy and culture. With clean white lines and lighting strategically placed to bestow a resplendent hue, the space has an atmospheric sense of peace and purity. The white contemporary furniture set occupy the living room space. A classical chandelier besets the dining area with a divine fondness and simultaneously keeps it close to Mother Nature. The television set is installed over an oak wood platform that exhibits a refined simplistic design. The master bedroom is an artistic spectacle that portrays a simplistic form of luxury with its signature bed and handpicked selection of covers and sheets. It follows a sublunary theme with whites and brown textured surrounding. The wall behind the bed and the wall with the TV installation is hand painted to create a wooden pattern. Both these walls are enhanced with white back-lighting. Bedside lamps hang from the ceiling, resembling a budding flower with a seraphic radiance.
