Modern Townhouse Furnishing: Sustainable Style for Indoor & Outdoor Living For this modern new-build townhouse, we curated and placed furniture to enhance both style and functionality. Indoors, each piece was thoughtfully selected to complement the home’s contemporary design while prioritizing healthy, sustainable materials. The outdoor spaces, including the porch and rooftop patio, were outfitted with durable, long-lasting furnishings designed to withstand Arizona’s unique climate. Every choice balanced aesthetics, comfort, and environmental responsibility, ensuring that both interior and exterior spaces are beautiful, functional, and sustainable for years to come.

Industrial transitional English style kitchen. The addition and remodeling were designed to keep the outdoors inside. Replaced the uppers and prioritized windows connected to key parts of the backyard and having open shelvings with walnut and brass details. Custom dark cabinets made locally. Designed to maximize the storage and performance of a growing family and host big gatherings. The large island was a key goal of the homeowners with the abundant seating and the custom booth opposite to the range area. The booth was custom built to match the client's favorite dinner spot. In addition, we created a more New England style mudroom in connection with the patio. And also a full pantry with a coffee station and pocket doors.

The homeowners were ready to renovate this basement to add more living space for the entire family. Before, the basement was used as a playroom, guest room and dark laundry room! In order to give the illusion of higher ceilings, the acoustical ceiling tiles were removed and everything was painted white. To ensure peak performance, the Boise Passive House utilized triple-pane glazing with the A5 aluminum window, Air-Lux Sliding door, and A7 swing door. Each product brings dynamic efficiency, further affirming an air-tight building envelope. The increased air-seals, larger thermal breaks, argon-filled glazing, and low-E glass, may be standard features for the Glo Series but they provide exceptional performance just the same. Furthermore, the low iron glass and slim frame profiles provide clarity and increased views prioritizing overall aesthetics despite their notable efficiency values.

A low-profile gravel path provides a clean, secondary artery through this modern front-yard garden. The dark basalt gravel serves as a textural counterpoint to the lush, architectural groundcovers. This view highlights the Alterra design+build approach to site-specific design, where new pathways are woven seamlessly around mature oaks. By prioritizing organic movement and high-contrast materials, we’ve created a residential landscape architecture project that feels both established and contemporary.

Prioritizing a good night’s sleep is easy in the primary bedroom. Motorized blackout drapes keep the sparkling city lights out when it’s time to sleep. The beautiful king bed is wrapped in a leather and graphite woven fabric headboard. The bed wall is covered in a beautifully intricate striated wallpaper, offering cozy texture and movement repeated in mink wool rug, ensuring softness underfoot every morning. A statement chandelier over the bed amps up the interest and drama. The reading chair in the corner carries in the softness of the living room, pairing beautifully with the matching built-ins. Additional closed storage here provides ample space for linens, clothes, and more.

This top-down detail emphasizes the architectural precision of our hardscape work. The intersection of smooth, board-formed concrete and warm gravel highlights the high-contrast material palette central to this master plan. Integrated into the design is a professional-grade path light, positioned to provide a subtle wash of light across the textures of the stone. Our Explore+Design+Build process prioritizes these technical details, ensuring every joint and fixture is intentional, durable, and contributes to the project’s premier aesthetic.
