This rural contemporary home was designed for a couple with two grown children not living with them. The couple wanted a clean contemporary plan with attention to nice materials and practical for their relaxing lifestyle with them, their visiting children and large dog. The owner of this home in Maine involved Koncerted in the design process from day one, allowing us to create unique, integrated systems with no workarounds. Design was first priority for this client, so all tech—including whole home audio, full surveillance, video doorbells, home entertainment, and five televisions—was chosen and installed with a minimalist aesthetic in mind. Our client’s goal was to create a small, high-performance, healthy home for herself and her teenage son while providing a place for her father to age in place. An attached private accessory dwelling provides a space for him as well as flexibility in the future. The new home was designed to minimize its footprint on site, made smaller than the original 1930’s house. Embracing adaptability and efficiency, the residence includes two dwellings: a one-bedroom 795 square-foot accessory dwelling at the lower grade and a two-story 1330 square-foot primary dwelling located above. Involved in all aspects of project execution, our client oversaw the process by living in a used trailer parked in the backyard throughout the project’s construction. Family-Share focused on maximizing the footprint’s performance, access to natural light and the health of the occupants. Sustainable features include high-performance glazing, solar preheat for domestic and hot water in-floor heating and reclaimed fir car decking rainscreen siding.

Danielle and her husband, Matt moved into the house and the design process began immediately and took about 6 months to complete. The project involved creating an open concept, which is unusual for a 1960’s, center entrance colonial. Every room was painted, the kids’ bathroom was wallpapered, new window treatments all over, new rugs, and all new furniture. 3,000 SF.

We are very proud of this project, as it was a full-home, very involved renovation process and included full-service decorating for the entire home. The house was originally had a mountain lodge feel. We stripped that look and brought in a classic American welcoming vibe for the main living areas, and more or a sleek, contemporary look for the master suite. All bathrooms had their own new appeal, representing the taste of each family member.
