Purpose-built mudroom & laundry combo space essential for Canadian cold climate homes. Left side features tall closed lockers, open hanging rails and layered bench cubbies for storing winter coats, snow boots, outdoor gear and backpacks. The right side is customized with upper wall oak cabinets, dark stone countertop with integrated sink, and a precise recessed niche to house front-load washing machine. All cabinet hardware is anti-rust treated to withstand frequent contact with wet snow-laden outerwear, centralized storage greatly reduces clutter from seasonal outdoor apparel.

This custom cedar deck project in Wilmette, IL, perfectly balances outdoor functionality with traditional craftsmanship. Built entirely with premium cedar, the design features a seamless transition from the main landing down to a spacious lower level, framed by classic matching cedar railings.
To maximize the usability of the backyard space, we fully enclosed the underside of the structure with durable lattice skirting. This clever addition creates a clean, cohesive look that beautifully hides the framing while keeping local wildlife out. To ensure no space goes to waste, we integrated a custom-built access door, converting the under-deck area into a highly functional, secure outdoor storage solution for lawn equipment and seasonal gear.

M. and L. are newlyweds, and they are also both grandparents. Goals in this project included room for 2 cooks and lots of storage for the kitchen gear of 2 households. We combined the original kitchen and a small laundry/breakfast room.
In this long view from the dining room, you can see how much counter space and storage has been packed into a relatively small footprint. The overall effect is contemporary, airy, full of light, and a pleasant place to cook or to chat with the cook.

A mudroom is a must for mountain homes, whether you are coming back from a day on the slopes or a long hike, you need a place to store your gear and take your shoes off before you enter your home.

We reimagined a closed-off room as a mighty mudroom with a pet spa for the Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2020. It features a dog bath with Japanese tile and a dog-bone drain, storage for the kids’ gear, a dog kennel, a wi-fi enabled washer/dryer, and a steam closet.

Offering a beautiful view through a large window into the backyard, we knew we would highlight the window and design a new kitchen layout, around that window. The former kitchen felt closed in with super dark cabinets. Along with the homeowner, our team designed a light and airy kitchen, including a new pass through to the dining room. Closed off from the kitchen before, the pass through not only allows light to flow in from the beautiful bay window in the dining room, but if offers a functional countertop used for entertaining and serving guests.
Not pictured is a drop zone, located immediately when you enter from the mudroom. Drop zones are fantastic for everyday items like keys, wallets, dog gear and more. We added an additional opening to the living room, right off the kitchen as well as a wet bar strategically placed outside the ever day kitchen work zone. Wet bars are fantastic for holding entertainment dishware, barware and appetizers!
We finished the space with beautiful new hardwood floors throughout the entire first floor, except the tile in the mudroom.

This was a fun project where we mixed contemporary with rustic industrial design. The oversized table at the foot of the bed is made from reclaimed wood with iron legs and accents. The accent wall recreates old plaster and exposed brick look.

Our client (and my former professor at OSU) wanted to have her basement finished. CCKB had competed a basement guest suite a few years prior and now it was time to finish the remaining space.
She wanted an organized area with lots of storage for her fabrics and sewing supplies, as well as a large area to set up a table for cutting fabric and laying out patterns. The basement also needed to house all of their camping and seasonal gear, as well as a workshop area for her husband.
The basement needed to have flooring that was not going to be damaged during the winters when the basement can become moist from rainfall. Out clients chose to have the cement floor painted with an epoxy material that would be easy to clean and impervious to water.
An update to the laundry area included replacing the window and re-routing the piping. Additional shelving was added for more storage.
Finally a walk-in closet was created to house our homeowners incredible vintage clothing collection away from any moisture.
LED lighting was installed in the ceiling and used for the scones. Our drywall team did an amazing job boxing in and finishing the ceiling which had numerous obstacles hanging from it and kept the ceiling to a height that was comfortable for all who come into the basement.
Our client is thrilled with the final project and has been enjoying her new sewing area.
