Our goal on this project was to create a live-able and open feeling space in a 690 square foot modern farmhouse. We planned for an open feeling space by installing tall windows and doors, utilizing pocket doors and building a vaulted ceiling. An efficient layout with hidden kitchen appliances and a concealed laundry space, built in tv and work desk, carefully selected furniture pieces and a bright and white colour palette combine to make this tiny house feel like a home. We achieved our goal of building a functionally beautiful space where we comfortably host a few friends and spend time together as a family. John McManus

  Morning routines shouldn’t involve a traffic jam at the sink. The 2025 Houzz Bathroom Trends Study found that 65 percent of U.S. renovators now choose a double-sink vanity to skip the wait. Designers agree: Titan Builders dubbed 2025 “the year of bigger, storage-packed double vanities,” forecasting dual-basin setups in family, guest, and even powder baths. As KBIS 2025 launches land, prototypes for 2026 layer in spa-grade wood, built-in outlets, and planet-friendly finishes. In this guide, we rank six standout models and show you how to size, install, and enjoy a clutter-free, two-sink future.   Methodology and selection criteria   A well-planned double-sink vanity keeps busy morning routines calm and clutter-free.   Before we crowned any winners, we mapped the entire 2024–2026 double-sink (dual-basin) market. That meant parsing KBIS exhibitor releases, scraping bestseller lists from Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Wayfair, and reviewing designer short lists in trade magazines.   Three hard gates kept the field honest: each finalist had to ship in North America by early 2026, include a countertop plus two sinks, and hold a minimum four-star user rating. We also filtered out mass-produced MDF boxes and pay-to-play “editor’s picks” in favor of furniture-grade builds with transparent spec sheets. A comfortable dual-basin vanity requires at least 60 in. (152 cm) of wall, plus a few extra inches so doors and drawers clear. In narrow baths, depth becomes the deal breaker. Units measuring 21 in. (53 cm) or less keep morning traffic moving.     Use at least 60 inches of wall, a shallow depth in narrow baths and 30 inches of clear floor space in front of your double-sink vanity.   Plumbing reality check. Converting a single to a double adds a second drain and tees off the hot- and cold-water lines. The home owners came to us wanting to upgrade their kitchen and overall aesthetic in their suburban home, with a combination of fresh paint, updated finishes, and improved flow for more ease when doing everyday activities. A monochromatic, earth-toned palette left the kitchen feeling uninspired. It lacked the brightness they wanted from their space. An eat-in table underutilized the available square footage. The butler’s pantry was out of the way and hard to access, and the dining room felt detached from the kitchen. Lead Designer, Stephanie Cole, saw an improved layout for the spaces that were no longer working for this family. By eliminating an existing wall between the kitchen and dining room, and relocating the bar area to the dining room, we opened up the kitchen, providing all the space we needed to create a dreamy and functional layout. A new perimeter configuration promoted circulation while also making space for a large and functional island loaded with seating – a must for any family. Because an island that isn’t big enough for everyone (and a few more) is a recipe for disaster. The light white cabinetry is fresh and contrasts with the deeper tones in the wood flooring, creating a modern aesthetic that is elevated, yet approachable for everyday living. With better flow as the overarching goal, we made some structural changes too. To remove a bottleneck in the entryway, we angled one of the dining room walls to create more natural separation between rooms and facilitate ease of movement throughout the large space. At The Kitchen Studio, we believe a well-designed kitchen uses every square inch to the fullest. By starting from scratch, it was possible to rethink the entire kitchen layout and design the space according to how it is used, because the kitchen shouldn’t make it harder to feed the family. A new location for the existing range, flanked by a new column refrigerator and freezer on each side, worked to anchor the space. The very large and very spacious island (a dream island if we do say so ourselves) now houses the primary sink and provides ample space for food prep and family gathering. The new kitchen table and coordinating banquette seating provide a cozy nook for quick breakfasts before school or work, and evening homework sessions. Elegant gold details catch the natural light, elevating the aesthetic. The dining room was transformed into one of this client’s favorite spaces and we couldn’t agree more. We saw an opportunity to give the dining room a more distinguished identity by closing off the entrance from the foyer. The relocated wet bar enhances the sophisticated vibe of this gathering space, complete with beautiful antique mirror tiles and open shelving encased by moody built-in cabinets. Updated furnishings add warmth. A rich walnut table is paired with custom chairs in a muted coral fabric. The large, transitional chandelier grounds the room, pairing beautifully with the gold finishes prevalent in the faucet and cabinet hardware. Linen-inspired wallpaper and cream-toned window treatments add to the glamorous feel of this entertainment space. There is no way around it. The laundry room was cramped. The large washer and dryer blocked access to the sink and left little room for the space to serve its other essential function – as a mudroom. Because we reworked the kitchen layout to create more space overall, we could rethink the mudroom too – an essential for any busy family. The first step was moving the washer and dryer to an existing area on the second floor, where most of the family’s laundry lives (no one wants to carry laundry up and down the stairs if they don’t have to anyway). This is a more functional solution and opened up the space for all the mudroom necessities – including the existing kitchen refrigerator, loads of built-in cubbies, and a bench. It’s hard to not fall in love with every detail of a new space, especially when it serves your day-to-day life. But that doesn’t mean the clients didn’t have their favorite features they use on the daily. This remodel was focused largely on function with a new kitchen layout. And it’s the functional features that have the biggest impact. The large island provides much needed workspace in the kitchen and is a spot where everyone gathers together – it grounds the space and the family. And the custom counter stools are the icing on the cake. The nearby mudroom has everything their previous space was lacking – ample storage, space for everyone’s essentials, and the beloved cement floor tiles that are both durable and artistic.

A young family moving from NYC tackled a lightning fast makeover of their new colonial revival home before the arrival of their second child. The kitchen area was quite spacious but needed a facelift and new layout. Painted cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter is balanced by grey glazed rift oak cabinetry on the island. Shiplap paneling on the island and cabinet lend a slightly contemporary edge. This beautiful kitchen is Thyme & Place Design's take on modern farmhouse style. White painted full access custom cabinets frame the perimeter of the space and a custom soft gray paint adorns the island cabinetry. The former kitchen felt tight and lacked style while this new kitchen has attitude to spare. Sub Zero and Wolf appliances set the stage for a cooks delight. An antique barn beam was used to create the mantle and corbels for an updated version of a mantle hood. Ample storage for everything a gourmet cook could want was provided. Deep drawers hold all the pots and pans for daily cooking. Pull out storage holds oil and vinegar bottles for instant recipe inspiration. A magic corner cabinet allows access to mixing bowls and colanders. Extra height wall cabinet storage contains several sets of dishes and most used foods at the cook’s fingertips. The island does double duty providing seating for extra guests, presenting a large expanse of countertop for all types of cooking prep. There is a microwave drawer for quick reheats and the most coveted by a baker, a built-in mixer lift. Behind the island, an oversized glass door pantry closet holds everything from pantry staples, to holiday dishes and oversized cooking and serving pieces. The dining area found a renewed sense of purpose with the removal of walls which cut it off from the rest of the home. New sky lights and a updated sliding door flood the space with light and open the view to the beautiful yard. A coffee bar was added which includes additional dish storage and a beverage center. Black ebonized maple with honey bronze hardware is a dramatic balance to the white and grey of the kitchen. The space was further opened to the family room which is now an integrated part of the family’s gatherings. Honey Bronze accents are repeated in the light fixtures over the island and as an accent on the sconces above the coffee bar.

This lovely craftsman style home provided the perfect blank slate for us to elevate with our clients' personalities. On the "must haves" list was add color, make it approachable and cozy, and keep the sunshine pouring in. The front rooms open to each other, so creating a flow connecting the spaces was important - however, giving each space its own twist was priority. We selected a bold red paint on the exterior of the front door and a classic, chevron-patterned, textured grasscloth for the Entry to set the stage. Lighting and furnishings were layered in for added pops of color and functionality. The Living Room furnishings were selected to maximize seating and relaxation. We delivered on color with the addition of an uber comfy, lime green swivel chair and placed it bordering the Living Room and Dining Room so one could join both conversations. The Dining Room walls were painted a moody blue to create a backdrop for chic dinner parties and record listening sessions. Reupholstered vintage dining chairs brought their own stories to the table while a custom made buffet stores oodles of board games and records. Custom window treatments in both spaces added the necessary privacy while allowing the sun to shine through and create the perfect sunny spots for their sweet dog to nap. Adding in artwork provided the fun punctuations in these two areas. When my client mentioned that she loves to sit out on the deck with a cup of tea and listen to the birds sing, my first thought was - let's have them join you inside! We reimagined the Breakfast Nook seating and created a custom banquette to perch on amongst the sweetest bird themed wallpaper. Potting mixes for container gardens need to drain freely, but still retain moisture. My base potting soil mix contains (clockwise from upper left) coarse builder's sand, high-quality organic compost or worm castings, coconut coir, and small lava rock.
