Our Long Island studio gave this Manhattan home an eclectic, colorful look. The home flaunts multiple living areas like a mid-sized, open concept family room with medium-tone wood flooring, gray walls, a metal fireplace, and no tv. The other living areas are accessorized with comfy furniture, quirky accents, and pops of bright color, while the L-shaped kitchen has a medium-tone wood floor and white flat-panel cabinets.

The living area is separated from the Kitchen and designed sleeping alcove by repeating framed elements. Similar treatment of the new through wall AC unit and new radiator creates a symmetry in spite of the different sized windows.

Steps from Riverside Park, the existing apartment had previously not been renovated for 30 years and was in dire need of a complete overhaul. StudioLAB was presented with the challenge of re-designing the space to fit a modern family’s lifestyle today with the flexibility to adjust as they evolve into their tomorrow. The existing formal closed kitchen and dining room were combined and opened up to allow the owners to entertain in an open living environment and allow natural light to permeate throughout different exposures of the apartment. Bathrooms were gutted, enlarged and reconfigured. Central air conditioning was added with minimal ducting as to be hidden and not seem clunky. Built-in bookshelves run the length of the perimeter walls below windows, concealing radiators and providing extra valuable storage in every room. A neutral color palette, minimalist details, and refined materials create a warm, modern atmosphere. Light brown oak veneered archways as well as LED cove ceilings are used to separate programmatic spaces visually without the use of physical partitions. A charcoal stained cube built-in was designed with in the foyer to create deep storage while continuing into the kitchen to hide the built-in refrigerator and pantry visually connecting the two spaces. The family’s two children share one large bedroom in order to create a playroom in the other which can also serves as a guest room when needed. The master bedroom features a full height grey stained ash veneered wall unit that serves as the predominant clothes storage. A panel housing the TV slides to reveal more clothes storage behind. To utilize the exiting formal maid’s room behind the kitchen, a small study and powder room were created that house laundry machines as well.

A custom oil-rubbed bronze hood was designed to create a striking focal point upon entering the room. The white pillowed edge subway tile gives dimension and texture to the space and blends seamlessly with the white beaded inset cabinets. The dark granite countertop on white perimeter cabinets gives this kitchen a traditional feel, but by installing a light quartz countertop on the dark cherry island a contemporary flair is added to the space. This allows for an overall transitional design.

This is a quintessential Colorado home. Massive raw steel beams are juxtaposed with refined fumed larch cabinetry, heavy lashed timber is foiled by the lightness of window walls. Monolithic stone walls lay perpendicular to a curved ridge, organizing the home as they converge in the protected entry courtyard. From here, the walls radiate outwards, both dividing and capturing spacious interior volumes and distinct views to the forest, the meadow, and Rocky Mountain peaks. This renovation project updates an existing New York 1920s apartment with a modern sensibility. Replacing the cellular pre-war layout of the central spaces with a built-in walnut credenza and white lacquer side board effectively opens the plan to create a unified and spacious living area. The back side of the full-height dining room side-board screens views from the entrance foyer. The modern design of the new built-ins at center of the space is balanced by perimeter radiator covers and a full-height bookshelf which work with the period trim detail. The new powder room features white thassos wall tiles, robern medicine cabinets with custom cove lighting, a custom translucent glass shelf, frameless glass shower, and a wall-hung toilet and sink to create a very clean look. This perfect antique, seaside home badly needed a bathroom update. We have been talking with the clients for years about how to approach the tiny space. The space limitations were solved by using a linear floor drain, glass panel, rear exit toilet, in-wall tank, and Runtel radiator/towel warmer. The client envisioned a laundry room that radiates cheerfulness and playful charm while maintaining the home’s overall refined elegance. Drenched in Sherwin Williams Upward, a soft, airy blue-gray, the classic Shaker cabinetry feels fresh and timeless, complemented by brass hardware from the Rejuvenation Eloise collection and a crisp white quartz countertop. Cole & Son’s iconic large-scale flamingo wallpaper in muted cream and charcoal and the Visual Comfort Hampton chandelier in plaster white adds just the right dose of whimsy while hand-painted-look floor tiles from Best Tile in black and cream bring vintage European charm. Clean vertical-groove paneling keeps the space light and classic, and a brass shelf-hung drying rod from Rejuvenation offers both function and subtle sparkle. A walnut table with turned legs and woven baskets provides the perfect landing spot for folding and finishing touches.

The original kitchen was disjointed and lacked connection to the home and its history. The remodel opened the room to other areas of the home by incorporating an unused breakfast nook and enclosed porch to create a spacious new kitchen. It features stunning soapstone counters and range splash, era appropriate subway tiles, and hand crafted floating shelves. Ceasarstone on the island creates a durable, hardworking surface for prep work. A black Blue Star range anchors the space while custom inset fir cabinets wrap the walls and provide ample storage. Great care was given in restoring and recreating historic details for this charming Foursquare kitchen.

The room had been remodeled about 20 years ago as part of a large addition and consists of three separate zones – 1) tub zone, 2) vanity/storage zone and 3) shower and water closet zone. The room layout and zones had to remain the same, but the goal was to make each area more functional. In addition, having comfortable access to the tub and seating in the tub area was also high on the list, as the tub serves as an important part of the daily routine for the homeowners and their special needs son. We started out in the tub room and determined that an undermount tub and flush deck would be much more functional and comfortable for entering and exiting the tub than the existing drop in tub with its protruding lip. A redundant radiator was eliminated from this room allowing room for a large comfortable chair that can be used as part of the daily bathing routine. In the vanity and storage zone, the existing vanities size neither optimized the space nor provided much real storage. A few tweaks netted a much better storage solution that now includes cabinets, drawers, pull outs and a large custom built-in hutch that houses towels and other bathroom necessities. A framed custom mirror opens the space and bounces light around the room from the large existing bank of windows. We transformed the shower and water closet room into a large walk in shower with a trench drain, making for both ease of access and a seamless look. Next, we added a niche for shampoo storage to the back wall, and updated shower fixtures to give the space new life. The star of the bathroom is the custom marble mosaic floor tile. All the other materials take a simpler approach giving permission to the beautiful circular pattern of the mosaic to shine. White shaker cabinetry is topped with elegant Calacatta marble countertops, which also lines the shower walls. Polished nickel fixtures and sophisticated crystal lighting are simple yet sophisticated, allowing the beauty of the materials shines through. This tiny home has utilized space-saving design and put the bathroom vanity in the corner of the bathroom. Natural light in addition to track lighting makes this vanity perfect for getting ready in the morning. Triangle corner shelves give an added space for personal items to keep from cluttering the wood counter. This contemporary, costal Tiny Home features a bathroom with a shower built out over the tongue of the trailer it sits on saving space and creating space in the bathroom. This shower has it's own clear roofing giving the shower a skylight. This allows tons of light to shine in on the beautiful blue tiles that shape this corner shower. Stainless steel planters hold ferns giving the shower an outdoor feel. With sunlight, plants, and a rain shower head above the shower, it is just like an outdoor shower only with more convenience and privacy. The curved glass shower door gives the whole tiny home bathroom a bigger feel while letting light shine through to the rest of the bathroom. The blue tile shower has niches; built-in shower shelves to save space making your shower experience even better. The bathroom door is a pocket door, saving space in both the bathroom and kitchen to the other side. The frosted glass pocket door also allows light to shine through. This Tiny Home has a unique shower structure that points out over the tongue of the tiny house trailer. This provides much more room to the entire bathroom and centers the beautiful shower so that it is what you see looking through the bathroom door. The gorgeous blue tile is hit with natural sunlight from above allowed in to nurture the ferns by way of clear roofing. Yes, there is a skylight in the shower and plants making this shower conveniently located in your bathroom feel like an outdoor shower. It has a large rounded sliding glass door that lets the space feel open and well lit. There is even a frosted sliding pocket door that also lets light pass back and forth. There are built-in shelves to conserve space making the shower, bathroom, and thus the tiny house, feel larger, open and airy.

This mudroom is understated in its color scheme and stands out as an integral part of this home. Under shoe storage, overhead cabinets and divided coat storage works wonderfully within this space to offer plenty of storage.
