Daniel Altmann of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Bethesda, MD, worked with Midas Construction to design this modern-style kitchen. The design features UltraCraft cabinetry in the Edgewater door style with a Pure White finish for the wall, base, and tall cabinets. The accent wall and cabinet island use the Slab door style in Rift Cut Oak with a Vertical Grain Natural Stain finish. The kitchen also includes MSI Median Grey quartz countertops on the perimeter, Caesarstone Raven quartz on the island, Top Knobs Brushed Nickel hardware, and Miele and Jenn-Air appliances. This modern kitchen has statement lighting above the island with a dropped wood soffit with wood slats. The island has waterfall ends and most of the appliances are stainless steel. The refrigerator and freezer are paneled with a flush application. The counters, backsplash and hood are all quartzite.

Once we had a plan in place, we dug in and got to work. The first step was to remove a non-load bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room. We then reworked the space a bit, eliminating a redundant passage way to the hall, and reworking a closet to allow for a large galley style kitchen and small bar area open to the dining room. The new kitchen has a small peninsula for the family to have casual meals and for the kids to hang out after school. A window was eliminated to give more space for cabinetry and storage, and another window was made larger to allow for a grander view into the backyard. We decided upon a layered approach to this space to provide character appropriate to the older home. White painted cabinetry provides a backdrop for interesting touches such as gray herringbone tile, a reeded farmhouse sink and bronze hardware and lighting. The bar has its own unique look featuring gray cabinetry with a patterned cement tile backsplash and walnut top. A bar fridge, glass cabinets and baskets for tucking away homework give this little multi-functional area loads of character. A miniature mudroom area was also added to the dining room so that the new space can be kept neat and tidy. The stylish result looks both appropriate to the 1928 home and provides loads of functionality for this active family that can now take advantage of every square inch their home. This kitchen features Wellborn Cabinet's new color- DOVE!!! The door style is Millbrook Maple. The island is the same door style, but in a coffee finish. The island top is called Fantasy Brown quartzite. The perimeter tops are Caesarstone. Kitchen was originally very small and formal dining space was not used often. We have made this one large space that is wonderful for family, friends, and every day life. It flows very well for entertaining as well.

The most stunning feature of this kitchen in the raised eating area. The countertop is a gorgeous piece of granite in a leathered finish, making it warm and welcoming to the touch. The double thick chiseled edge creates a wow factor in this room! The colour of this granite is called Fantasy Brown. This tile backsplash is a new product from Daltile called Artigiano. It's a 3 x 12 ceramic subway style tile that has a lot of dimension to it so it looks hand made. The color is a very desirable shade of blue called Roman Skyline. It works well with other sea glass colors. The counter tops are by Cambria, the color is Torquay. It has a great balance of sandy tones mixed with grey for a nice beachy look.

This 1950’s mid century ranch had good bones, but was not all that it could be - especially for a family of four. The entrance, bathrooms and mudroom lacked storage space and felt dark and dingy. The main bathroom was transformed back to its original charm with modern updates by moving the tub underneath the window, adding in a double vanity and a built-in laundry hamper and shelves. Casework used satin nickel hardware, handmade tile, and a custom oak vanity with finger pulls instead of hardware to create a neutral, clean bathroom that is still inviting and relaxing. The entry reflects this natural warmth with a custom built-in bench and subtle marbled wallpaper. The combined laundry, mudroom and boy's bath feature an extremely durable watery blue cement tile and more custom oak built-in pieces. Overall, this renovation created a more functional space with a neutral but warm palette and minimalistic details.
