This project was designed to accommodate the client’s wish to have a traditional and functional barn that could also serve as a backdrop for social and corporate functions. Several years after it’s completion, this has become just the case as the clients routinely host everything from fundraisers to cooking demonstrations to political functions in the barn and outdoor spaces. In addition to the barn, Axial Arts designed an indoor arena, cattle & hay barn, and a professional grade equipment workshop with living quarters above it. The indoor arena includes a 100′ x 200′ riding arena as well as a side space that includes bleacher space for clinics and several open rail stalls. The hay & cattle barn is split level with 3 bays on the top level that accommodates tractors and front loaders as well as a significant tonnage of hay. The lower level opens to grade below with cattle pens and equipment for breeding and calving. The cattle handling systems and stocks both outside and inside were designed by Temple Grandin- renowned bestselling author, autism activist, and consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior. This project was recently featured in Cowboy & Indians Magazine. As the case with most of our projects, Axial Arts received this commission after being recommended by a past client.

Found object lamps often come with a story. The Neuman Chimney Cleaner is a most clever invention intended to simplify chimney cleaning. The compacted cleaner is suspended from two ropes and lowered down the chimney in its closed form. Pulling up on the control rope causes the prongs to spread, while using the other support rope raises and lowers the cleaner to scrape the chimney walls. Age of this one in unknown, but Orin Neuman of Wittenberg, WI received the original patent in 1930. In 1988, the Schaffer Brush Manufacturing Company in Waukesha, WI acquired the patent rights. The repurposed ceiling light features included twin clear tubular bulbs and a mechanism to set and lock the flair to suit the intended space. Height is approximately 23 inches, with variable flair from 11 x 7.5 to 18 x 15 inches.

Located in Minnetonka, MN, this remodel was designed for a couple who wanted to transform their lower level into an upscale, entertaining retreat. The husband envisioned a sleek, fully stocked bar with room for barware, a beverage fridge, and his whiskey collection. We delivered with a custom quarter sawn oak and black cabinetry design, topped with durable Cambria quartz, and accented with warm brass hardware. The adjacent movie room was given dramatic depth with the blackest paint we could source, creating a true cinematic atmosphere. A nearby powder bath received a complete refresh with quality, low-maintenance materials, including a stylish wood vanity, coordinating mirror, modern fixtures, and new flooring. Though the original plan called for removing a wall in the movie room, structural limitations led to a design pivot, focusing instead on maximizing style and function within the existing layout. Materials were repeated throughout the home for a cohesive, high-end feel. Now, the homeowners can comfortably host friends and family in a space that blends modern sophistication with easy, everyday living.

Renovation of this remarkable 1936 Monte Copper Tudor demonstrates how we sensitively transform historic homes to beautifully perform in contemporary life. The challenge was to connect first floor spaces, including the kitchen; dining room; and a lower family room added in a previous addition. The family room received thoughtful and appropriate detailing along with a graceful and functional two-sided bar element linking it with the kitchen. The kitchen was expanded and reimagined with a seamless addition. Diagonal views and openings allow all the rooms to function as a connected whole.

Gary Duff Designs transformed this Setauket front-entry way to expand the view of the house, making it look larger and more inviting. By clearing out shrubs and weeds - and replacing them with lower, cleaner looking plants, as well as a front driveway apron, the team simulated a natural face-lift for the entire property. A whimsical winding walkway and updated basketball court made with Mateflex material completed the landscape design project, which received rave reviews from the homeowner, who happens to be an architect himself.
