Thanks to a leaking shower pan liner in the home we purchased four years ago, we got to design a project for ourselves! By maximizing the existing space, we were able to add a gorgeous soaking tub and a two-person shower. While reusing our existing vanity, we added a new quartz countertop and hardware to give it an updated look. We also added in some extra fun treats such as color-changing LED recessed lights, sleek LED defogging mirrors, heated floors, and a heated towel rack. The unusual glass double doors were replaced with a large barn door to reduce wasted floor space when the door is open. The small arch top window was converted to a large horizontal sliding window to bring the outside in and natural materials in soft blue and beige tones create a spa-like oasis that we enjoy every time we enter.

A little over a month ago, we completed a solar installation for Omari T. in Champaign, IL. This was a 12.045 kW system on a sloped roof and the customer was very happy with the final product.
Omari T. chose us for the project because of our competitive pricing and our craftsmanship. The main reason he recommended us was because of our excellent service and nice people.
The project was completed in just a couple months and the results were great! The solar panels are from Panasonic and the inverter is from SolarEdge. The whole system is grid-tie-in and it’s already reducing Omari’s utility bill each month.
We’re so happy that we could help Omari T. with his solar needs and we’re always available to help more people go solar! If you’re interested in learning more about solar or getting a quote for your home, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

This home office was created from an outbuilding on the property. Seagrass wall-to-wall carpet was installed for ultimate durability and a relaxed vibe. We employed a high-low aesthetic to create a space that was unique but still within budget, utilizing the owner's Stickley desk, a custom desk chair, custom blush Roman shades, a Hudson Valley Fenwater chandelier and sconces, and multiple office items from budget sources like IKEA and The Container Store. The ceiling is painted Quicksand and walls and trim in White Dove by Benjamin Moore. Photo by Sabrina Cole Quinn Photography.

Views of the Atlantic and Katama Bay from the second floor were a driving force behind the Design of this home built several years ago in Edgartown. The Gambrel roof provides great headroom on the second floor with dormers in critical areas for windows and doors. Subtle curves soften the edges and a mix of materials help to reduce the scale and add interest to the exterior. The Porte Cochere provides access to the pool area as well as an entire wall of storage closets for the trappings of summer. Attention to detail and more than ample natural light make this house a very pleasant experience.

Stunning Kitchen and Laundry renovation in Bellevue Hill.
The project aimed to improve the functionality and light up a tired and uncomfortable kitchen/laundry built 20 years ago.
The brief required us to simplify the design to avoid cleaning as much as possible. For this reason the design doesn't expose any horizontal surface, integrates appliances and displays polished natural stone for the island, counter top and splash back.

Eileen from Glendale began walk in tub shopping about a month ago. She was not only looking for a great price but also a tub that was made with quality. Eileen decided to go with Independent Home because not only are we are more affordable than our competitors, we have a quality reputation on consumer affairs.
Eileen had decided that our celebrity walk in tub model with hydrotherapy would work best for her. This tub was the best choice for her because it provides both safety and relaxation. The tub features a non-slip floor, an ADA compliant seat, and has a low edge, making it easy for entering and exiting. The hydrotherapy spa allows Eileen to reduce any joint pain that she may have, simply by turning on the jets and enjoying a deep soak.
Eileen’s walk in tub installation only took one day to complete. The process included taking out her old bathtub along with the foundation, disconnecting the plumbing, bringing in the new tub, leveling the legs, connecting the new plumbing, and checking for leaks. The last part of the installation process was building the tub’s finish. Eileen had wanted a riser rod for a clean wall surround along with a stand-up shower fixture.

Several years ago, Jill and Brian remodeled their kitchen with TKS Design Group and recently decided it was time to look at a primary bath remodel.
Jill and Brian wanted a completely fresh start. We tweaked the layout slightly by reducing the size of the enormous tub deck and expanding the vanities and storage into the old tub deck zone as well as pushing a bit into the awkward carpeted dressing area. By doing so, we were able to substantially expand the existing footprint of the shower. We also relocated the French doors so that the bath would take advantage of the light brought in by the skylight in that area. A large arched window was replaced with a similar but cleaner lined version, and we removed the large bulkhead and columns to open the space. A simple freestanding tub now punctuates the area under the window and makes for a pleasing focal point. Subtle but significant changes.
We chose a neutral gray tile for the floor to ground the space, and then white oak cabinetry and gold finishes bring warmth to the pallet. The large shower features a mix of white and gray tile where an electronic valve system offers a bit of modern technology and customization to bring some luxury to the everyday. The bathroom remodel also features plenty of storage that keeps the everyday necessities tucked away. The result feels modern, airy and restful!

Traditional design blends well with 21st century accessibility standards. Designed by architect Jeremiah Battles of Acacia Architects and built by Ben Quie & Sons, this beautiful new home features details found a century ago, combined with a creative use of space and technology to meet the owner’s mobility needs. Even the elevator is detailed with quarter-sawn oak paneling. Feeling as though it has been here for generations, this home combines architectural salvage with creative design. The owner brought in vintage lighting fixtures, a Tudor fireplace surround, and beveled glass for windows and doors. The kitchen pendants and sconces were custom made to match a 1912 Sheffield fixture she had found. Quarter-sawn oak in the living room, dining room, and kitchen, and flat-sawn oak in the pantry, den, and powder room accent the traditional feel of this brand-new home.

Soft gray cabinetry and a dark wood island create a balanced contrast in this transitional kitchen by Bradford & Kent. A broad white island countertop provides space for preparation and casual seating, with an integrated sink keeping the work area central. An oversized lantern pendant adds a sculptural focal point, while two skylights bring natural light into the room. Stainless steel appliances and a coordinating range hood complement the gray palette. White horizontal backsplash detailing and light wood flooring brighten the space, with warm metallic accents adding a finishing touch.

Reclaimed wood has become a popular trend for homeowners seeking a “one of a kind” flooring design statement. Rustic reclaimed wood with centuries of patina, hand hewn and crafted with the eye and hand of an artisan add character, warmth and history to your home. Not surprisingly barn wood is also the revered material of craftsmen, builders and architects for its inherent warm properties and durability.
Part of the appeal lies in knowing that long before curated barn wood was repurposed to become statement flooring in your home it had a “storied first life” in our architectural past. Reclaimed wood is vintage sourced material that connects us with a narrative larger than ourselves, these materials are story tellers. Generations ago, these venerable living artifacts were harvested, milled and crafted into sturdy structures on our American Landscape as barns, farmhouses, silos, water tanks and 19th century industrial buildings. Centuries old reclaimed wood has withstood the test of time, weathered by the elements each plank nobly enriched with history and individual character.
I’ve talked about the aesthetics and romantic notions for choosing reclaimed wood but another equally important reason fueling this trend is that it’s repurposing and sustainability at its best. Reusing centuries old wood reduces our carbon footprint resulting in a reduction of energy usage and air pollution. Environmentally friendly, reclaimed wood gets to breathe beautiful new life into your home. Call is today for an in home estimate (908)232-6600 or visit our website https://newyorkcitywoodfloors.com
