This 1990’s custom home previously had a small kitchen and living spaces that didn’t accommodate the homeowners love for hosting large gatherings. By rearranging the layout. opening (and closing) several walls, we were able to create a cohesive living, bar, and kitchen space that is now open to the family room. While we did not want to disrupt the exterior of the home, we reframed the old sliding door to allow us to wrap the cabinetry and install new windows providing light and views to the yard. The expansive kitchen is bright and airy with plenty of storage including a wrap around butlers pantry. Our team crafted beautiful wood accents throughout including: the hood, floating shelves, large table that can seat up to 10 people comfortably, and custom light fixture in the bar area. The bar is not only a fun area for entertaining, but highly functional with deep drawers for bottles and glassware, built-in ice maker and beverage cooler, a full sink and dishwasher, and custom millwork to frame a tall wine refrigerator.

Located six feet from the sand, this residence seeks to reframe the contextual reference of its inhabitants in order to mitigate its highly trafficked location and create a private beach retreat. In parallel to its unobstructed ocean view, the design carves out infinite pockets of nature within the architecture. From the dining room’s bamboo garden to the expansive skylight above the stairwell, moments of serenity have been carefully composed throughout the home in order to make each frame as infinite as the horizon line of the Pacific Ocean.

In this remarkable project, we undertook the transformation of an old garage into an exceptional indoor-outdoor living space. By reframing the garage ceiling and walls, we ensured a secure foundation for the installation of drywall, creating a polished and finished look. The addition of a brand new bi-fold door seamlessly connected the interior to a stunning patio cover, while the inclusion of bar cabinets and a stylish glass garage door further elevated the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space. To provide a captivating focal point, we installed a beautiful wallpaper, accentuating an accent wall that adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.

This lovely 2-story townhome suffered the effects of more than 120 years of “remuddling” and “modernization” through significant modification of the structural framing. With a large section of a load-bearing wall removed and shear walls, the full 3-story building was structurally compromised. The program included the installation of a steel beam and structural reframing, beginning at the ground floor and through to the 3rd-floor living space. The new structural design allowed for a significantly improved living space. The kitchen was relocated and expanded, as were the living room and dining room. Several upgrades were made to the home, including incorporating all-electrical appliances. 1900 Victorian now boasts several eco-friendly and energy-efficient features.

Upon asbestos abatement completion we were ready to start reframing the space. Since we were removing the door, we also replaced the dining room window with a sliding patio door to access the large raised deck space.

This was a project in the High Park area that we were asked to remove all the finishes on the interior and re-design the spaces to accommodate an open concept layout. There was a small back stairway that we converted into an eating area for the kitchen and bedroom in the basement. All the exterior walls were re-framed and spray foam insulated. All-new drywall, hardwood, tiles, kitchen, plumbing fixtures, and the old fireplace were re-done. The existing stairs were resurfaced and we added all-new handrails and guardrails.

They also wanted a built-in breakfast nook, improved pantry space, more functional storage on either side of their fireplace, and a built-in appearance for the TV above the mantel. The original built-in desk was not used, and they preferred for that space to serve as a small bar area with refrigeration and a place to store their printer. We designed several plans for the space before selecting the final layout. The new design required the removal of the soffit over the old sink, as well as a small wall beside the old refrigerator. The wall beside the stairwell had to be shortened 13 inches and a new beam installed to carry the load of the home’s 2nd story to gain enough space for the large central island. The existing closet pantry walls were also reconfigured as per the new plan. This serves as a great reminder that Dimensions In Wood is much more than just custom cabinets. Central to the entire custom kitchen is an 8-foot Walnut island. The huge island, which comfortably seats three, is topped with Essenza Blue quartzite. The stone’s natural striations are beautiful. Quartzite is harder than granite, and less likely to stain than other stones because of its density. The couple had to look through multiple slabs to find a piece they LOVED. The island’s custom Walnut cabinetry, built to resemble a piece of custom furniture, was stained Bronzed Walnut by Sherwin Williams. The 4-foot Galley Workstation in the island, handles all the kitchen’s prep, serving, and cleanup needs. The Galley’s culinary tools include an upper tier cutting board, upper tier drying rack, 2 lower tier platforms, 11″ colander with non-slip handles, and 11” mixing bowl with lid and non-slip bottom. Learn more about the amazing Galley Workstation here. A Waterstone gantry faucet in a pewter finish combines a pull-down sprayer for maximum mobility and a articulated swivel spout. A water tap with reverse osmosis filter provides the highest quality drinking water. To keep a clean and sleek counter we installed a raised air switch for the garbage disposal and integrated soap dispenser. The island also houses the Thermador Sapphire 7-Program Dishwasher with a hidden touch control panel and a custom Walnut wood front. The cabinetry under the Galley Workstation features a trash roll out, as well as storage for the culinary tools. Shortening the stairwell wall, and reframing around the stairs, which included shortening the handrail, also made room for a bi-fold door walk-in pantry with extra roll out storage and space for a small microwave. Above the panty doors is a remote controlled, electric motor powered, lift up cabinet door which hides a flat screen TV, used while the family is cooking. To the right of the walk-in pantry is cold food storage. The Thermador, 30-inch Freedom Collection refrigerator and 24-inch built-in freezer column with internal ice maker are covered with matching cabinetry fronts. An open display space was designed above the units, creating an aesthetically beautiful wall. To the right of the refrigerator & freezer columns is a tall cabinet designed for the built-in Thermador steam and convection oven. The convention steam oven is a relatively new technology for homes, but its versatility and food quality is amazing. To the right of this is a pull-out appliance pantry which provides easy access and storage for a stand mixer, blender, and any other appliance you do not want to clutter the counter. The most visible wall of the kitchen features the 36-inch Thermador Professional Series Harmony Gas Range with Griddle. Between the range and custom designed wood hood, a framed mosaic tile accent in the backsplash, creates a focal point. To clear the air, the Professional Series Thermador 42-inch ventilation insert provides excellent exhaust capabilities, as well as providing multi-level, vivid LED lights for beautiful illumination. The wall cabinetry symmetrically flanks the custom hood, utilizing deeper wall cabinetry on each end, allowing for storage of oversized dishware. The base cabinetry on this wall is made up of drawers, except for the corner, which is a Kesseböhmer LeMans II. This specially designed shelf system allows ease of access in underutilized blind corners. The dual action articulation system with soft close mechanism ensures a smooth open and close. Rounding the corner to the outside wall, the base cabinetry was built to a narrower depth, providing additional space for the island, as well as easier access to the new larger pass-thru window which serves the screen porch. The client selected Black Vermont granite countertops with an ogee edge to contrast the Linen White painted cabinetry. The door to the screen porch was replaced with a Marvin Exterior Door with a raised panel at the bottom of the 3⁄4 glass door. Marvin Windows replaced the other windows in the space increasing the energy efficiency and value of the home. To establish the breakfast nook, a bench with drawers and an upholstered seat was built into the bay area of the room. Custom bookshelves were built with open shelves, cabinet doors, and drawers on either side of the fireplace. A new stone hearth and fireplace surround were installed. Above the existing mantel we built a recessed space for the flat screen television hiding all wiring inside the walls for a completely clean look. The space that was once a desk was transformed into a bar area. The glass shelves and glass cabinet front liquor cabinet stand out. But this bar area has hidden secrets. Tucked beneath the black granite is a Thermador under-counter double drawer refrigerator with matching wood front panels. They blend in perfectly with the cabinets. A wireless printer is easily accessed on a slide out drawer. Plus, what looks like merely wooden panels on the wall are concealing recessed storage for more bottles and glasses! Overhead recessed lighting and speaker system provide illumination and entertainment through the entire space. This luxury home had original, solid oak flooring through most of the first floor which the homeowner obviously wanted to keep but were in desperate need of repair and refinishing. Our master craftsmen wove in new wood flooring to match the old where needed, particularly where walls had been changed and where the floor was damaged. We sanded the floors, smoothing away years of wear and tear. The entire wood floor was then uniformly stained, making it impossible to differentiate where any repairs were made. Vivid Interiors This darling 1905 Capitol Hill home has a lot of charm. To complete its look, the kitchen, dining room and adjacent powder room have been modernized. A new kitchen design and expanded powder room increase the homeowner’s storage space and functionality. To open the space and integrate its style with the rest of the home, the new design included a reconfigured kitchen layout with an opened doorway into the dining room. The kitchen shines with Honey Maple cabinetry and Cambria quartz countertops, along with a gas cooktop, built-in double oven, and mosaic tile backsplash, all set to the backdrop of under-cabinet lighting and Marmoleum flooring. To integrate the original architecture into the kitchen and dining areas, arched doorways were built at either entrance, and new wood windows installed. For the new lighting plan and black-stainless appliances, an upgrade to the electrical panel was required. The updated lighting, neutral paint colors, and open floor plan, has increased the natural daylight in the kitchen and dining rooms. To expand the adjacent powder room and add more cabinet and counter space in the kitchen, the existing seating area was sacrificed and the wall was reframed. The bathroom now has a shallow cabinet featuring an under mount full size sink with off-set faucet mount to maximize space. We faced very few project challenges during this remodel. Luckily our client and her neighbors were very helpful with the constrained parking on Capitol Hill. The craftsman and carpenters on our team, rose to the challenge of building the new archways, as the completed look appears to be original architecture. The project was completed on schedule and within 5% of the proposed budget. A retired librarian, our client was home during most of the project, but was delightful to work with. The adjacent powder room features cloud-white stained cabinetry, Cambria quartz countertops, and a glass tile backsplash, plus new plumbing fixtures, a ventilation fan, and Marmoleum flooring. The home is now a complete package and an amazing space!

A home worthy of Bebb & Gould, this Tudor now sings in concert with its gorgeous PNW landscape to the delight of its green thumbed homeowners. The renovation required a full gut of its interior and small addition/ roof reframing to accommodate an enviable walk in closet for the primary suite. New leaded glass window and custom cabinetry provide a luxurious dressing experience.

A house with such incredible views as this one should take full advantage of them. We began with the entrance – turning an uninsulated mudroom into a warm and light-filled welcoming area. The kitchen was opened and outfitted with birch cabinetry, light grey countertops, and steel appliances. A large central island makes this a natural gathering place to share food and conversation. The transition between the kitchen and the living room is seamless. A full splash of windows allows for uninterrupted views of the ocean from a comfortable seat on the couch. The interior stair connecting floors is suspended by stainless steel rods so as to appear to “float.” This gravity-defying link both sets the tone for this relaxed and refreshing home and allows light to spread through the space. Cohesive design throughout the living area gives this house personality without the puzzle. With the constraint of not being able to move the structure any closer to the ocean, we reframed the front half of the house to build out the master bedroom. Now this room has spectacular water views, and the addition of a new roof deck provides an elevated vantage point with an invitation to sit back and relax. To limit any future tangles in this house for our clients, we paid special attention to making the renovated elements as high quality as possible. The windows were replaced with triple-glazed units and new insulation was installed to increase efficiency. Frequent communication and great teamwork between owner, builder, and architect made this an easy and light-filled renovation, to be enjoyed for many years to come.

This project transformed a Rockwall cottage with a smart expansion, a refreshed kitchen and bath, and a new 25' x 20' cedar gable patio cover—blending everyday function with warm, Texas-casual style. Inside, we reframed three exterior walls, added a dedicated laundry area, upgraded electrical and lighting, installed new windows, reworked HVAC for balanced airflow, and finished with paint-grade maple cabinetry, quartz counters, new tile, and refinished red-oak hardwoods. Outside, we wrapped the addition in Hardie lap siding and built a stained-cedar patio structure with integrated lighting and fans for four-season living.

The greatest transformation occurred in the kitchen area. The entire kitchen was gutted down to the studs and re-framed according to the new plan. The owners of this beautiful 1908 NE Portland home wanted to breathe new life into their unfinished basement and dysfunctional main-floor bathroom and mudroom. Our goal was to create comfortable and practical spaces, while staying true to the preferences of the homeowners and age of the home. The existing half bathroom and mudroom were situated in what was originally an enclosed back porch. The homeowners wanted to create a full bathroom on the main floor, along with a functional mudroom off the back entrance. Our team completely gutted the space, reframed the walls, leveled the flooring, and installed upgraded amenities, including a solid surface shower, custom cabinetry, blue tile and marmoleum flooring, and Marvin wood windows. In the basement, we created a laundry room, designated workshop and utility space, and a comfortable family area to shoot pool. The renovated spaces are now up-to-code with insulated and finished walls, heating & cooling, epoxy flooring, and refurbished windows. The newly remodeled spaces achieve the homeowner's desire for function, comfort, and to preserve the unique quality & character of their 1908 residence.

We also added a small office, separated from the living room with a barn door. This 1890 rowhouse had been renovated over time, most recently in the 70s. Our clients wanted to renovate every floor. The floors and walls were out of level, and most of the systems were old. We gutted the structure to the studs, leveled and reframed the walls and floors, added insulation and updated the plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Once the structural and systems work was complete, our crew installed a new expanded kitchen, updated all the bathrooms, and updated the basement. HDBros

Our homeowners purchased this home for its excellent location and great bones. They were desirous of returning it to the era of it’s time while updating and modernizing it with the elegance it deserved. To add to our challenges, they were living out of the country during our design and renovation, making for great communications utilizing modern technology to ensure we could deliver what they hoped to achieve. We opened some space in the kitchen to create an updated and more functional kitchen for this active family, relocating appliances for efficiency, adding an island and relocating a chimney. We had structural challenges with the sagging hardwood floors, which required us to reframe floor systems, and while we were at it, we antique finished the hardwoods reminiscent of the 1940’s. We added wainscoting in the dining room and entry stair hallway to enhance the old-world look and added some arched openings to match other areas of the home. We also added custom moldings to the fireplace wall to allow it to shine as a focal point in the space, utilizing restored antique light fixtures. The finished result is stunning and truly honors the integrity of the original time period of this home.
