This kitchen remodel has been 27 years in the making and was ready for an all-around update. During our first few meetings, our client had envisioned what drawers would house which items and really wanted the kitchen to accommodate more people whether for a simple meal or for multiple cooks during a celebratory gathering. The original kitchen did not have enough storage and the island did not allow for much seating space. Our client dreamed of a kitchen where she could cook and entertain her family and friends at the same time. An existing wall enclosing the kitchen was removed and another wall was extended to room for a wall of cabinetry while also allowing the space for a bigger island. Upon entering the kitchen, a base cabinet with beveled glass doors showcases the beautiful china that our client has collected throughout the years. The new kitchen is packed with appliances that allow our client to make the best usage of them. A 48” American Range Lenged Series rangetop and a 48” stainless steel hood by Windster form the heart of the kitchen. A stainless steel backsplash allows easy maintenance for our client who uses the kitchen so often. The new wall now starts with a desk/office area, a 30” American Range Legacy Series double wall oven, a 36” French door refrigerator, ice maker, wine refrigerator and beverage center. A mixer stand is located in the base cabinet of the island to save countertop space and a drawer bank allows for baking utensils. A prep sink is part of the island with a single trash to make cooking, prepping and cleaning an ease for multiple cooks. A microwave drawer is also available on the island. Easy access and once again keeping the countertop work space open and free. Storage is available at the seating area for seasonal items. The kitchen finishes were completely switched out as well. The new cabinetry consists of a Cherry species in the Nantucket door style by Crystal Cabinets. Cabinets were finished in a Cinnamon stain with black glazing in a distressed look with cracking and wearing. The surrounding cabinets have a leathered granite and a marble countertop for the island. The three-part crown was inspired by an armoire that has been with the family for a long period of time. Crystal knobs and cup style pulls provide the finishing touches to this beautiful and functional kitchen. The removal of a bank of cubbies expanded the footprint of the shower and build a bench. A grab bar was installed so the family can age in place. There is an overhead shower rain head and a hand held shower faucet.

A new bathroom was designed using the same space, and allowing for a large curbless shower, two generous sink vanities and a large storage cabinet. An unused soaking tub was removed to make space for the new layout. One of the top priorities was to make this bathroom feel more open and bright. A bank of mirrored medicine cabinets above the sink vanity fills the wall, with wall sconces above, which along with can lights overhead and toe-kick lighting below ensure the room is well lit from every angle.

We did a decent amount of custom alterations here. We removed a beverage cooler from the end of the island and closed it in with decorative end panels, and installed a new floor for the island. Also converted a traditional two door/drawer base cabinet into a three drawer bank. Two other small side by side drawers were modified for new custom made large drawer boxes and matching fronts. We used Walzcraft raised center panel doors in Alder and Java 4 stain.

When an expanding family outgrew its beloved A frame vacation home, chaos followed. Outdoor gear multiplied exponentially, while any organized spot to stow it did not. Expected amenities were non-existent for needs of the crowd of outdoor enthusiasts. SV Design addressed the lacking elements and added practicality, with style: the multigenerational family members and friends can now appreciate space for the variety of hobbies and interests they pursue. Having worked with Siemasko + Verbridge in the past, the family turned to SV once again knowing we would design solution to address the growing list of concerns. SV’s design of a three-story addition with a relatively small footprint was just what the home needed. A covered entry now provides the option of entering the main house or stopping off in the mud room to remove boots, drop off skis, and hang up wet clothes. Regardless of the way you enter the main house you will be greeted with a naturally lit, welcoming staircase of reclaimed white oak timber treads and steel stringers and rails. Each newel post is capped off with a polished granite sphere to pay homage to the Granite State in which the house resides. The open stair invites you up to a spacious family space for playing board games, listening to music, gazing at the stars, or just lounging about in the warm comfort of the home. Traveling downstairs from the main level is a new, kid friendly media room for popcorn and movies, or a little video game sibling competition. Perhaps the most striking new feature of the home is the custom designed Adirondack style bar built of varying tones of willow branches and bank. Topped off with a contrasting aged zinc counter, backsplash and shelf the bar is the perfect spot for the resident bar tender to mix up a tasty concoction for sitting by the crackling fire just steps away. This home will provide comfort and ease for the family to relax and enjoy their getaway for years to come.

After removing a central coat closet and laundry, the new kitchen was sandwiched between the stair's only allowable location and the low-ceilinged area under the loft. A new bank of south-facing windows fills the kitchen with light.

The owners wanted to take advantage of their views, add more natural light, increase storage, and have the kitchen function more efficiently. From dark and feeling closed-in, it was transformed to open, inviting and a place they enjoy every day. All the wall cabinets were removed and a bank of three tall windows were added for more light and ventilation. After a new layout was designed, materials and finishes were selected. The first thing that is noticed when you walk into the room is the wall behind the range. The large expanse is very unique, like a work of natural art. When viewed it can look like waves or patches of clouds. The wall is a full slab of Dekton. The color is inspired by the industrial look of oxidized steel, with shades of grey, brown and black with metallic effects. Mixed woods and stains were used for the cabinets. Storage was maximized, each drawer and cabinet have a function. The island is a perfect landing spot for groceries, meal prep or a buffet. Floating shelves add and open look. The elegant banquette was custom built for the space. It has a slanted back for comfort and with styled legs it keeps it airy and light. The “L” shape optimizes the space and created a natural conversation spot and view of the water. The kitchen has French doors that access an expansive deck, perfect for entertaining. The space was designed for this active couple making it a place to entertain and live everyday with joy.

After a decade of being bi-coastal, my clients decided to retire from the east coast to the west. But the task of packing up a whole lifetime in a home was quite daunting so they hired me to comb through their furniture and accessories to see what could fit, what should be left behind, and what should make the move. The job proved difficult since my clients have a wealth of absolutely gorgeous objects and furnishings collected from trips to exotic, far-flung locales like Nepal, or inherited from relatives in England. It was tough to pare down, but after hours of diligent measuring, I mapped out what would migrate west and where it would be placed once here, and I filled in some blank spaces with new pieces. They bought their recent Craftsman-style home from the contractor who had designed and built it for his family. The only architectural work we did was to transform the den at the rear of the house into a television/garden room. My clients did not want the television to be on display, and sticking a TV in an armoire just doesn’t cut it anymore. I recommended installing a hidden, mirror TV with accompanying invisible in-wall speakers. To do this, we removed an unnecessary small door in the corner of the room to free up the entire wall. Now, at the touch of a remote, what looks like a beautiful wall mirror mounted over a Japanese tansu console comes to life, and sound magically floats out from the wall around it! We also replaced a bank of windows with French doors to allow easy access to the garden. While the house is extremely well made, the interiors were bland. The warm woodwork was lost in a sea of beige, so I chose a deep aqua color palette for the front rooms of the house which makes the woodwork sing. And we discovered a wonderful art niche over the fireplace that the previous owners had covered with a framed print. Here are some photos of a unique project we recently finished. We helped InTouch Credit Union salvage and reuse their existing flooring by creating a pattern with different colored carpet tiles and using the product that was removed during the remodel, along with some attic stock they had, to complete this project. The existing carpet tile was discontinued and we had to make some magic happen to help the bank out. That's what Good Guys do!

In order to create more space, which was one of the key goals to the project, we had to remove the archway at the far end of the kitchen, as well as the dual knee walls and the built-in shelves. This added space allowed us to create a much larger breakfast nook for a cozy informal dining area, and room for additional cabinets and new appliances. However, now that we had more space we also needed to add more light to the area. That was achieved by adding a bank of windows on both exterior walls, bathing the new dining nook with glorious sunlight and brightening the entire kitchen. The step-up counter around the island was removed, creating more usable counter space and a sleeker look. New cabinet doors replaced the dated false-fronts, and a bank of silverware drawers were installed just across from the new Stainless Steel dishwasher for convenient unloading.

This vibrant office is a dream come true for creative designers. It’s also where Libby’s deep passion for rug design blossomed, thanks to her early role with Creative Matters as a junior salesperson and later, their Retail Coordinator. Years later, Libby is still fortunate to work alongside this remarkable team again and again. This dynamic team provided the breathtaking rugs for our Lake Simcoe project, skillfully crafting custom pieces that blended perfectly with the exquisite home. For this project Libby and her team partnered with them to revitalize their impressive office space in a turn of the century bank building at heart of Toronto’s west end. Creative Matters transformed their second-floor offices into a small showroom about seven years ago. However, after the pandemic, they recognized that their team’s working style had evolved, prompting a reimagining of their workspace. They relocated the showroom downstairs, removing the rows of cubicles to create a bright and open environment. This space is distinct, catering to the unique requirements of both the showroom and the team’s creative process. Our team focused on providing storage solutions, clean lines, and ample space, while maintaining the light and airy feel of the previous renovation but seamlessly integrating it into the main floor. Now, Creative Matters to warmly welcome clients and showcase their exceptional work. Many custom pieces are integrated in this office such as a custom collaborative work table on the second floor that has a hidden access panel for tech components. A custom bench in their lunchroom is a welcome and comfortable addition which creates a nice nest to connect and unwind. An overall workflow adjustment was made to this dynamic teams way of working in this dynamic office, and we love to visit and see them seamlessly working in this newly integrated space. *Special thanks is given to The Working Vine for their analysis of workflow. Home In Transition (HIT) worked with the real estate agents to clear this Mississauga home for staging. Once family members had selected the items they wished to keep, the HIT team facilitated an online auction, oversaw the lotting, worked with the team to catalogue, and assisted with pickup. We also arranged for the furniture bank to pick up donations and finally a junk removal service to take away all remaining items.

This gorgeous beach condo sits on the banks of the Pacific ocean in Solana Beach, CA. The previous design was dark, heavy and out of scale for the square footage of the space. We removed an outdated bulit in, a column that was not supporting and all the detailed trim work. We replaced it with white kitchen cabinets, continuous vinyl plank flooring and clean lines throughout. The entry was created by pulling the lower portion of the bookcases out past the wall to create a foyer. The shelves are open to both sides so the immediate view of the ocean is not obstructed. New patio sliders now open in the center to continue the view. The shiplap ceiling was updated with a fresh coat of paint and smaller LED can lights. The bookcases are the inspiration color for the entire design. Sea glass green, the color of the ocean, is sprinkled throughout the home. The fireplace is now a sleek contemporary feel with a tile surround. The mantel is made from old barn wood. A very special slab of quartzite was used for the bookcase counter, dining room serving ledge and a shelf in the laundry room. The kitchen is now white and bright with glass tile that reflects the colors of the water. The hood and floating shelves have a weathered finish to reflect drift wood. The laundry room received a face lift starting with new moldings on the door, fresh paint, a rustic cabinet and a stone shelf. The guest bathroom has new white tile with a beachy mosaic design and a fresh coat of paint on the vanity. New hardware, sinks, faucets, mirrors and lights finish off the design. The master bathroom used to be open to the bedroom. We added a wall with a barn door for privacy. The shower has been opened up with a beautiful pebble tile water fall. The pebbles are repeated on the vanity with a natural edge finish. The vanity received a fresh paint job, new hardware, faucets, sinks, mirrors and lights. The guest bedroom has a custom double bunk with reading lamps for the kiddos. This space now reflects the community it is in, and we have brought the beach inside.

Removing the wall where the peninsula now resides made all the difference in this kitchen, allowing light to pour in from the family room and creating an open flow between the main entertaining area, the kitchen, and the eating area on the other side. Building in the refrigerator sandwiched neatly between the pantry and oven area made for a handsome wall, and eliminating a cluttered desk for a beautiful buffet made for one happy homeowner. A tiny bar around the corner also got a face-lift to match the smart new kitchen. Preparing food for the family is now a snap in this smart new kitchen that didn't break the bank.
