This project began with a roof inspection following reported wind activity in the Alpharetta area. Using the Inspector Roofing Protocols™, we conducted a structured, inspection-first evaluation to determine whether the roofing system had sustained functional damage. The inspection included slope-by-slope analysis, wide-to-tight photographic documentation, and targeted review of shingles, seal integrity, and uplift patterns consistent with wind-related damage. The inspection identified wind-driven shingle displacement and seal failure consistent with functional damage rather than normal wear. The documented findings met claim-verifiable thresholds, allowing the condition to be clearly presented and supported. Based on the inspection and supporting documentation, the claim was reviewed and approved by State Farm, resulting in a full roof replacement. This project reflects the importance of proper inspection and documentation—where replacement is not assumed, but supported through verifiable evidence and structured evaluation.

Our homeowners came to us in need of a bathroom remodel. Unique to this design is that the toilet and shower are in a separate room from the vanity. The space is separated by a pocket door. The vanity area has no door to the master bedroom; it is an open concept. This makes the vanity area almost serve as a dressing area due to the proximity of the walk in closet (and open concept). The shower offers an oversized bench and niche. The homeowners enjoy the rain shower head which is ceiling mounted. They also have a hand held body sprayer. We partnered with DeWils Cabinetry and Cambria Quartz for the vanity area. Double vanities, with full height tower cabinets, complete with glass doors in the top shelf, are not only decorative but offer tons of organized storage for toiletries. One of the other features we love about this cabinetry is the use of a spice rack style cabinet pull out. “Our main three design wishes were to incorporate an efficient use of space, keen aesthetics and an overall ease of use,” Ashwin says. Specifically, the kitchen was solely for cooking and while they did not rely on design Web sites for examples of kitchen designs, they did do their research during the design process. So, while the couple knew exactly what they wanted with their IKEA kitchen, they also knew that working with design professionals like IKD and a professional installer would make a huge difference. “We’d done our research and read horror stories online about installers stopping work midway through a project,” Ashwin explains. Well, that certainly wasn’t the case here! As the couple reports their experience with the installer was excellent. As was their experience with IKD’s designers who guided them through the design and the IKEA product selection process.

Back in April of 2016, YIMBY reported on new building applications for 846 Monroe Street, in Brooklyn’s Ocean Hill neighborhood. Since then, work has begun on the vacant, 28-foot-wide lot, and now, we have the reveal for the project, which is being designed by Joshua Felix of J Goldman Design/BEAM Group. The architect of record for the site is BMG Design Build, as listed on the Department of Buildings permits, and the project is being developed by Shimon Kaufman. The structure will total four floors and eight units, spanning 7,304 square feet in total. With units averaging under 700 square feet apiece, rentals are very likely. Fortunately, despite the probability of apartments, the design does not compromise on basic architectural decency, and lacks the PTAC units that characterize the exteriors of the vast bulk of new developments of the same typology in New York City. The facade will also be fairly attractive, featuring a mix of grey brick, and black and white paneling. A small area covered in brown gives a pop of muted color that is just enough to add some visual variety to the exterior.

When Bill and Jackie Fox decided it was time for a 3 Season room, they worked with Todd Jurs at Advance Design Studio to make their back yard dream come true. Situated on an acre lot in Gilberts, the Fox’s wanted to enjoy their yard year round, get away from the mosquitoes, and enhance their home’s living space with an indoor/outdoor space the whole family could enjoy. “Todd and his team at Advance Design Studio did an outstanding job meeting my needs. Todd did an excellent job helping us determine what we needed and how to design the space”, says Bill. The 15’ x 18’ 3 Season’s Room was designed with an open end gable roof, exposing structural open beam cedar rafters and a beautiful tongue and groove Knotty Pine ceiling. The floor is a tongue and groove Douglas Fir, and amenities include a ceiling fan, a wall mounted TV and an outdoor pergola. Adjustable plexi-glass windows can be opened and closed for ease of keeping the space clean, and use in the cooler months. “With this year’s mild seasons, we have actually used our 3 season’s room year round and have really enjoyed it”, reports Bill. “They built us a beautiful 3-season room. Everyone involved was great. Our main builder DJ, was quite a craftsman. Josh our Project Manager was excellent. The final look of the project was outstanding. We could not be happier with the overall look and finished result. I have already recommended Advance Design Studio to my friends”, says Bill Fox. Photographer: Joe Nowak
