This beautiful house in an amazing neighborhood was originally built with an underwhelming kitchen. The remodel of this space involved changing a few things to allow the kitchen you see here. We changed a sliding door to a smaller single swinging door, enlarged the window, removed a non-load bearing, decorative column and a flow restricting half wall. All off those changes as well as stealing 6.5' of the 3 car, garage allowed this kitchen to become this homes star of the show!!

Designing a spectacular, spacious home that would take full advantage of ocean and salt marsh views on opposing sides of a long, thin slice of sloping land was a challenge embraced. To realize the full potential of the restrictive property, a multi-level structure was designed. Varied rooflines were created to give the home an appearance of being comfortably nestled in the landscape, while enabling the home to remain in proportion with the surrounding properties. Additional living space was gained by pulling the garage closer to the street and building a family room and an expansive deck above. Our clients had a very comfortable getaway home in Williams Bay. But, like the wall of fame that displayed the memorable fish they’d landed over the years, their kitchen needed to be rearranged and refreshed to better serve the friends and family they looked to host. The small gallery-style kitchen was small and blocked off to the rest of the home. It was very restrictive when friends and family gathered. It needed a new layout to accommodate more people, more comfortably. This required a change to the layout of the adjoining great room and entryway. Walls were removed and modified to accept the larger kitchen layout and integrate seamlessly with the great room and entryway, creating a warm and comfortable area where our clients could now entertain and interact at the same time – no longer hidden away in the tight quarters of their old kitchen. And of course … We made plenty of room to display their wall of fame with room to add even more memories.

The house is located in Conyers Farm, a residential development, known for its’ grand estates and polo fields. Although the site is just over 10 acres, due to wetlands and conservation areas only 3 acres adjacent to Upper Cross Road could be developed for the house. These restrictions, along with building setbacks led to the linear planning of the house. To maintain a larger back yard, the garage wing was ‘cranked’ towards the street. The bent wing hinged at the three-story turret, reinforces the rambling character and suggests a sense of enclosure around the entry drive court. Designed in the tradition of late nineteenth-century American country houses. The house has a variety of living spaces, each distinct in shape and orientation. Porches with Greek Doric columns, relaxed plan, juxtaposed masses and shingle-style exterior details all contribute to the elegant “country house” character.

The Cloud Villa is so named because of the grand central stair which connects the three floors of this 800m2 villa in Shanghai. It’s abstract cloud-like form celebrates fluid movement through space, while dividing the main entry from the main living space. As the main focal point of the villa, it optimistically reinforces domesticity as an act of unencumbered weightless living; in contrast to the restrictive bulk of the typical sprawling megalopolis in China. The cloud is an intimate form that only the occupants of the villa have the luxury of using on a daily basis. The main living space with its overscaled, nearly 8m high vaulted ceiling, gives the villa a sacrosanct quality. Contemporary in form, construction and materiality, the Cloud Villa’s stair is classical statement about the theater and intimacy of private and domestic life.

The super spa is a massive 5-tier raised spa that is beautifully wrapped with glass tile on the spillway and is complimented with porcelain waterline tile throughout the pool to blend in together with the natural stone presented throughout the backyard as well. But wait- there is more! A travertine pathway leads you to the spa which the homeowners had the stairs custom-made to easily climb in the spa. The long travertine raised wall allows guests to sit all around the backyard and not be restricted to hang out in just one area. There are 2 buildings, 4 units total. Keeping within City of Austin regulations and impervious cover restrictions, we were limited to 1600-1700 square feet per unit. Each unit boasts an open floor plan concept, lots of natural light with high windows and modern styling. All four units sold out soon after the first open house. They are rated 3 stars with the Austin Energy Green program.

The space would be located above the living room, dining room and kitchen, creating a private and secluded oasis for mom and dad. The children would have the home’s three middle level bedrooms and a bath of their own. A New Master Suite A new custom wooden staircase leads the homeowner to the doorstep of what she now calls her “heavenly space.” It’s a large master bedroom complete with a seating area, vaulted ceiling and skylights, and a beautiful Bordeaux-finish maple wood floor. Bright color paint was selected for the walls to complement the wood flooring and bedroom furniture. The new 11’x12’ master bathroom offers a spa-like experience. The new bath touts a large shower stall with a built-in bench and storage niches covered with flagstone tiles; a soaking whirlpool tub; and a long double vanity with granite top and fancy fixtures. Exterior Ties It Together Like any large addition, this one required exterior renovation to make the addition look like the rest of the home. New vinyl siding and architectural shingles replaced the old cedar siding and run down shingles on the original structure. A new front porch with half-stone columns and pillars maintains the home’s cottage look. A new double car garage replaces the original carport. Both are a big part of the home’s new front elevation which greatly improves its curbside appeal. The end result of this project offers everyone in the family a place of their own. The children have new bedrooms and the parents have their sanctuary in their new master suite.

With a large family, 'Cloud Nine' was designed to be a functional and well utilized space for entertaining. Multiple retaining walls were necessary to achieve the desired design because of the restricted regrading allowed on the property. A warm and inviting space is created underneath the upper deck with a seating area around the fire and a L-shaped outdoor kitchen. A bocce court, a putting green tucked away by the treeline, a hammock swaying from the custom pergola, and a large pool patio can keep anyone busy. Exterior Ties It Together Like any large addition, this one required exterior renovation to make the addition look like the rest of the home. New vinyl siding and architectural shingles replaced the old cedar siding and run down shingles on the original structure. A new front porch with half-stone columns and pillars maintains the home’s cottage look. A new double car garage replaces the original carport. Both are a big part of the home’s new front elevation which greatly improves its curbside appeal. The end result of this project offers everyone in the family a place of their own. This renovation on Withrow Ave came with all the challenges you’d expect from working in the city: restricted access for equipment, tight parking conditions, and trades working inches away from neighbouring homes. The homeowners didn’t want a cosmetic update—they wanted a home that felt brighter, more open, and easier to live in day-to-day. Achieving that meant removing structural walls, installing engineered beams, and pulling as much natural light through the space as possible. At the same time, they envisioned a new basement walkout that would change how they used the lower level, making it a real part of their everyday routine instead of a dark, overlooked space. The transformation is dramatic. The ground floor now feels like an entirely different home, with clean sightlines and a sense of openness that didn’t exist before. Light moves through the space naturally, and the new layout finally matches how a modern Toronto family wants to live. The basement walkout has become a functional everyday entry point—perfect for dropping off gear, coming and going effortlessly, and accessing ample storage space. This young family worked with us to renovate almost every part of their home over a two year span. Without changing any wall configurations, we updated the living room, kitchen, bathrooms and family room. My favorite improvement is the dramatic fireplace with three sided glass that separates the kitchen and living room. We took out a builder's corner fireplace and covered the new peninsula design with Italian ceramic tiles. A traditional 1926 cottage was transformed into a stunning, contemporary home. The focal point from both inside and out is a 3-story floating wood and stainless staircase, showcased by oversized windows and dramatic lighting. Walnut cabinetry with a distinct stain and natural slab surfaces offset the metals used throughout – Including at the interior and exterior of the fireplace. Reclaimed wood floors pay homage to the industrial area the home is situated in. In designing this home restrictions set forth by the building department were key. For instance, in order for the project to be considered a remodel the existing 8’ tall perimeter walls had to remain in place. The homeowners desperately wanted 9’ tall ceilings, so with crafty engineering and framing we were able to embellish the existing wall framing to achieve the added height. Clearstory windows allow much needed light into the spaces and creates the illusion of spaciousness, while maintaining wall areas for key furnishings and artwork. Every inch of space maximizes storage throughout the 2,600 square foot home. A cabinet for shoe storage immediately inside the front door also serves as a key component at the staircase and provides a platform to highlight sculptural artwork. Unique products and details, such as a metal link shower curtain and custom built-in guest beds with strategically placed outlets and horizontal surfaces to allow for electronics to be close at hand, elevate this home to the next level.

A warmer palette of earth tones and neutrals reflected the clients’ personal style, while upgraded lighting, a statement range, and a larger pantry elevated functionality. A double-sided fireplace connecting the kitchen and living room was redesigned to feel more intentional, with cohesive materials used on both faces. In the living area, a previously underwhelming wet bar became a standout moment with deep green cabinetry, a wine fridge, and built-in storage—adding both function and sophistication. Throughout the project, structural limitations and narrow footprints presented design challenges that were met with custom solutions—from a uniquely shaped island to intentional lighting plans that worked around ceiling beams. The final result is a highly personal, connected series of spaces that support both everyday routines and meaningful moments of gathering—infused with warmth, purpose, and a relaxed sense of luxury.
