Vogler Metalwork & Design
A huge amount of functional storage space was designed into an otherwise small kitchen through the use of purpose built, custom cabinetry.
The homeowner knew exactly how she wanted to organize her kitchen tools. A knife drawer was specially made to fit her collection of knives. The open shelving on the range side serves as easy access to her cookware as well as a garbage pullout.
We were able to relocate and center the range and copper range hood made by Vogler Metalworks by removing a center island and replacing it with a honed black granite counter top peninsula. The subway tile backsplash on the sink wall is taken up to the soffit with the exception of dark bull nose used to frame the wall sconce made by Vaughn.
The kitchen also serves as an informal entryway from the lake and exterior brick patio so the homeowners were desperate to have a way to keep shoes from being scattered on the floor. We took an awkward corner and fitted it with custom built cabinetry that housed not only the family's shoes but kitty litter, dog leashes, car keys, sun hats and lotions.

"Lynn, we're ready to do the Guest Bath now"!
My clients excitedly told me. We had just completed the renovation of their Master Bath, so we set to work right away.
They wanted a 'beachy theme' and were also excited at the prospect of a larger bath tub.
"Beachy" was translated into the color and texture of the materials.
Floor tile has a mottled, blue glaze reminiscent of a cloud-scattered sky,
glass, mosaic tiles in translucent shades of blue and green echo beach glass and water.
Faucets in polished nickel add sparkle and everything is set against a neutral backdrop
of imported, Italian tile in glossy white.
Although this room is contemporary, local historic architecture is still honored;
faucets are a modernized version of old-fashioned faucet taps and the rectangular wall
tile harkens back to subway tile - typical in many urban buildings.
The tub area was enlarged by borrowing dead space from the adjacent kitchen pantry
and there's plenty of new storage in the vanity and recessed medicine cabinet.
Niches in the tub and shower area neatly contain shampoo bottles, soap and candles.
To set the mood for supreme relaxation, the jetted tub contains a revolutionary feature
known as Chromatherapy in which water-tight LED lenses imbue the bath water with colored light.
An externally-vented exhaust fan keeps this windowless room fresh
and layers of light come from the recessed ceiling fixtures and wall sconces.
The mood is set for relaxing, so fill up the tub, sit back ... ahhhhhh … just beachy!

A perfect example of a timeless, elegant white kitchen, the inspiration also had to aspire to be warm and lived in. It needed to incorporate architectural elements that made it feel as though pieces had been there through the life of the home. A Southampton concave hood in Alpine White sits above a Shou Sugi-inspired herringbone tile backsplash, flanked by two open arched doorways leading to the new Butler's Pantry. The Green Stone opaque finish on the Coronado Recessed cabinetry inspired the homeowners to color drench the Butler Pantry hallway and ceilings. In keeping with the grand theme, the cabinetry and crown was run to the full 12-foot ceiling height. The concave hood also gives an appearance of being built-in from floor to ceiling, using oversized corbels to connect it to the bases.
Subtle architectural details abound throughout this project, such as toekick valances and turned legs on the large island featuring Burnished Cobblestone on Plain Saw White Oak peek out between seats. And a bar/TV area performs double duty as a wet bar and lounge space.
Storage and organizational “extras” hide throughout the kitchen. Roll-out storage drawers with adjustable drawer partitions, Birch cutlery dividers for utensils, a double waste basket cabinet, and even the base cabinets by the range reveal a knife block insert within for easy reach during cooking. Under-cabinet integrated lighting and display glass lighting keep the space bright while brushed brass accents scattered throughout the kitchen catch the eye.

The cozy new window seat added in Phase II perches just above the reworked entry. Perfect for curling up with a good book.
“We were surprised, the window seat turned out to be our favorite place in the whole house, I'm so glad Dennis convinced us to add it.”

Bathroom - scandinavian bathroom idea in San Francisco
Bathroom - scandinavian bathroom idea in San Francisco

This is the space we carved out of the basement bathroom, which was also extraordinarily large. When we moved to the house full time, I knew, with so much work ahead of us, that we would need a place to store and organize our vast collection of tools, hardware, and various other bits and pieces. I designed the new bathroom so there would be a closet that was about 5' x 10', with enough pegboards and shelving to hold all the stuff. With few exceptions, the junk that previously was scattered around a very disorganized 20'x20' garage was condensed and sorted into this space. I've had to learn to be more organized and put my toys away at the end of play time, but so far this very mission critical space is working like a charm. I can always find a drill bit or a saw blade when I need one.

The site was abandoned and in disrepair, and on it a classic Charleston Freeman Cottage, along with a few shacks and what might have originally been a garage sat scattered on this long narrow site.
The new owners saw the potential to bring this small home back to life while maintaining the existing street presences and expanding the cottage to better fit a modern life.
We were able to arrange additions in a way that created a village massing where one larger home felt like many and saved a shared courtyard with the small commercial structure. The space is inmate and urban, while allowing for a 4 Bedroom home to snuggle into the streetscape. The ramshackle garage space was brought back to life as micro-commercial space, activating the sidewalk.

Warm and playful, this vibrant bespoke bench in turquoise invigorates our drawing design with energy, whilst the stylish artwork and accessories add another layer of personality.

I loved designing this young lady’s bedroom at our Waters Edge project. She loves boho chic and that’s exactly what I created for her. I had the forest wall paper printed to fit across the headboard wall, which sets the mood for the rest of the room. I designed a window seat with lots of storage and shelves to display her objet. A comfy seat cushion with pattern and colour in the scatter cushions is the perfect place to catch up on some reading or to watch the world go by outside. I picked up the rose gold in the wall light at the window seat and table lamp by adding a rose gold inlay in the bedside pedestals that we manufactured. There are two little pooches that sleep in this bedroom as well and they each have their custom made bed cushion under a canopy made especially for them.

Bokara has provided nothing less than the highest quality and finest area rugs for over four decades.

This sofa looks good in a diversity of settings, making a distinctive statement in interiors of all kinds with its casual, structureless, modular design and cushions acting as backrests simply scattered on top.

THE SETUP
When we first encountered this basement for a family with three boys, we saw a space with untapped potential. Though previously remodeled, it lacked a cohesive design strategy. The expansive area housed various entertainment pieces (a shuffleboard table, air hockey, foosball, etc.) scattered haphazardly throughout the space.
While the basement included a workout room and a rudimentary kitchen area, it lacked a dedicated game room or proper bar. Excessive storage closets along the back wall consumed valuable real estate that could be repurposed for more engaging uses.
In essence, the basement was spacious but disjointed—functional for family use but falling short as an entertainment hub. It didn’t align with the sophistication of the rest of the home. Our clients envisioned a transformation: a fresh, organized space that would not only serve their family’s needs but also shine as an inviting arena for entertaining friends and hosting gatherings – especially sports-focused gatherings!
Design Objectives:
Reimagine the basement layout, creating distinct zones for varied activities.
Expand the workout area to accommodate new equipment, including a Smith machine.
Implement a multi-screen setup inspired by high-end sports bars, allowing guests to follow multiple games while socializing.
Enhance existing features while developing new areas:
Optimize a workout space for all equipment needs
Establish a dedicated children’s space with guest room capabilities
Create an integrated bar and entertainment area
Retain and incorporate the existing projector setup
Design Challenges:
Navigate layout constraints in the new workout room due to fixed utility areas.
Carve out a distinct space for kids within the open plan.
Revitalize an underutilized section of the basement.
Elevate the existing big screen area with purposeful design elements.
Develop a full-fledged bar area while maintaining kitchen functions applicable for hangout snacking.
Work around immovable structural elements (soffits, load-bearing support columns)
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design Solutions:
Install a stylish barn door for the utility area of the new workout space, improving aesthetics and accessibility.
Repurpose the former workout room into a dedicated game room for kids, utilizing couches with pull-out beds so the area can double as overflow guest accommodations.
Transform the unused area into a vibrant pub-style area for card and table games.
Enhance the big screen area with elegant wainscoting and ambient theatre-style lighting.
Design a multi-functional wet bar area featuring varied seating, prep areas, and a microwave.
Base the bar sink area width off the soffit above it.
In the big screen area, use the soffit to inform the width of a wainscoting section.
For the immovable support columns, dress one up to match the wainscoting of the nearby big screen wall. Hide the other one in a new wall.
Final Thoughts:
The reimagined basement has exceeded our clients’ expectations, evolving into the ultimate entertainment hub. With seven strategically placed screens, it’s perfect for gatherings focused on major sporting events and casual gatherings, as well. The space strikes a balance between adult sophistication and family-friendly functionality, featuring distinct zones for various activities.
The new design not only maximizes functionality for modern, multi-screen entertainment but also elevates the aesthetic appeal. It integrates flawlessly with the rest of the home’s transitional style while allowing each basement section to maintain its unique character. The result is a versatile space that caters to both intimate family time and large-scale entertaining.

Design ideas for a mid-sized full sun backyard stone landscaping in Portland.
Design ideas for a mid-sized full sun backyard stone landscaping in Portland.

This property had not been landscaped for more than 25 years. The entryway and front hillside were covered in large juniper hedges, the Oaks and Redwoods on the property were littered with dead branches, and construction debris from decades was scattered throughout the creek-side property. After extensive tree work and removals, the front yard construction consisted of a moss rock boulder creek that wrapped down the front hillside. The backyard design integrated a new Redwood deck, black basalt gravel patio, and shade appropriate plants. The tree work allowed more light onto the property, and the home owners were able to finally enjoy their outdoor space.
