This was a fun remodeling project for us and our client. They had an older house with a closed off kitchen that they wanted to open up more. We designed a kitchen where we removed a wall and sealed up a doorway to make a more conventional layout. We also removed the plaster from the chimney to showcase the exposed brick, which the customer loved. The new cabinets for the kitchen were done in a light American walnut wiping stain and hickory wood. The door style was our shaker door from our Kitchen Solvers Legacy Collection. To add a little contrast, we did the island and coffee bar in a sage color. Next, we installed a new Matterhorn quartz countertop and a 2” x 5” Pickett mosaic backsplash in Aqua. To finish this transformation, we installed a new LVP in the house to make the rooms feel more cohesive.

These custom thermally broken luxury doors were needed at this palatial rural home and Ledyard Homes selected Panda Windows and Doors to supply their thermally broken TS.19 in order for the future residents to fully enjoy their outdoor atmosphere from the comfort of their living space. While closed the thermal brake technology engineered into the TS.19 produces an air tight seal which enables the home to save energy and keep the great room interior space comfortable in both winter and summer and during harsh weather conditions. In addition to the energy and thermal benefits the doors also greatly reduce outdoor sound producing a serene environment inside the living space.

The primary bedroom was designed to feel like a retreat in a luxury hotel. A custom headboard wall was designed to pull in the warm wood and brass tones from the rest of the home and create a warm backdrop for the bed. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors were installed behind custom floating nightstands, reflecting the view of the city and bouncing light from the pendants dropped in front of them. The nightstands were designed to hide all electric outlets while still ensuring they are easy to access for charging needs. A seating area next to the dresser provides a beautiful vignette of neutrals. Floor-to-ceiling drapes open and close with the push of a button (conveniently located right by each nightstand) to seal off any light and ensure a good night's sleep.

Our design for the expansion and gut renovation of a small 1200 square foot house in a residential neighborhood triples is size, and reworks the living arrangement. The rear addition takes advantage of southern exposure with a "greenhouse" room that provides solar heat gain in winter, shading in summer, and a vast connection to the rear yard. Architecturally, we used an approach we call "willful practicality." The new soaring ceiling ties together first and second floors in a dramatic volumetric expansion of space, while providing increased ventilation and daylighting from greenhouse to operable windows and skylights at the peak. Exterior pockets of space are created from curved forces pushing in from outside to form cedar clad porch and stoop. Sustainable design is employed throughout all materials, energy systems and insulation. Masonry exterior walls and concrete floors provide thermal mass for the interior by insulating the exterior. An ERV system facilitates increased air changes and minimizes changes to the interior air temperature. Energy and water saving features and renewable, non-toxic materal selections are important aspects of the house design. Environmental community issues are addressed with a drywell in the side yard to mitigate rain runoff into the town sewer system. The long sloping south facing roof is in anticipation of future solar panels, with the standing seam metal roof providing anchoring opportunities for the panels. The exterior walls are clad in stucco, cedar, and cement-fiber panels defining different areas of the house. Closed cell spray insulation is applied to exterior walls and roof, giving the house an "air-tight" seal against air infiltration and a high R-value. The ERV system provides the ventilation needed with this tight envelope. Floor Installation 1.Mark out the baseline of gound level, 2.Mix the mortar with ratio of 1 cement to 4 sand to have semi-day mortar, 3.Lay the mixed mortar in level with a layer of 3-4cm thickness,place the tile over the mortar and adjust the height properly to be leveled, 4.Remove the tile after level adjustment.Put a thin layer of cement powder on the mortar and add water on it to become wet, 5.Put the tile on top and gently knock with rubber hammer until it sealed with the mortar properly. Those tiles which are not leveled with others should be removed and repeat the leveling procedure in step 4.Genetally,the space between two tiles should be 2mm for water evaporation and normal expansion. Daily maintenance of Micro Crystal Stone 1.The laying area of micro crystal stone can only be opened for use or stacking any item on top after at least 24 hours of filling the gap, 2.The ground must be covered with plywood or carpet for protection in case of doing other decoration work after the installation of micro crystal stone floor, 3.In areas like exit and entrance, the surface of micro crystal stone floor should be covered by carpet or plywood to protect it from the damage of abrasion of sand or other hard material. 4.Do not use general floor wax on micro crystal stone,General floor wax is an oil-based wax which is easily stuck to dust. 5.Please use rubber wheels for shopping cart and trolley on micro crystal stone floor, for the hard wheel may scratch and damage the surface, 6.Regular care and maintenance is the key for long lasting of micro crystal stone’s high glossy and reflection. There's an island, a farmhouse apron sink, some open shelving, and undermount bowls in the baths. It's the kind of job we like, where one stone carries through the whole home and ties everything together. Fantasy Brown is a dolomite, and that matters. People see the soft browns and grays and the flowing veins and assume it's a marble, but dolomite sits a step harder and holds up better in a working kitchen. The movement in it runs long and watery, brown and taupe drifting through a lighter background. No two slabs are the same, so a big part of the job is laying out the material and deciding which piece goes where. On the island we want the veining to feel like it belongs, and across a corner we do our best to keep the flow moving instead of stopping cold at the seam. The farmhouse apron sink is where the extra work shows. That kind of sink needs the front edge of the stone cut just right, and the reveal has to be even the whole way across. The undermount bowls in the bathrooms get polished on the inside edge so there's nothing rough to catch on. We template tight, cut to the template, and set the seams where they're least likely to bother you. An eased edge keeps it simple and easy to wipe down, which fits a house that's actually lived in. Dolomite likes to be sealed and it likes to be wiped up after acidic things like lemon or wine, but treated with a little sense it wears beautifully for years. It takes heat better than a lot of people expect, though we still say use a trivet. In a kitchen and baths that get daily use, it's a stone that looks high-end without being fussy to the point of stress. Orangeburg's a bit of a drive for us, but we go where the work is, and this was a repeat customer we think a lot of. Running the same dolomite through the kitchen and the bathrooms gave the whole place one voice. That's the payoff on a job like this, one material, careful layout, and a finish that reads the same room to room.
