Perectly balanced, this dramatic black and white bathroom is a stunner. Thoughtful design was top of mind for these clients as they approached the Renovisions team to help narrow down their choices and bring it to life. Finding balance while mixing darker, heavier black finishes and lighter, white finishes was the task at hand and the goal was to create a modern look with an industrial/rustic feel.
The challenge on this project was incorporating all the desired elements and products in a tight spatial constraint of 9’ x 7.5’. The clients biggest concern in the old bathroom was inadequate storage, tired and under-utilized bathtub and they also needed an additional sink for their two daughters who often share this space. Renovisions recommended removing the wall between the shower and closet to gain additional floor space as you enter the bath, while providing wall space for the three towel bars.
Collaborating with the clients and searching to find the right fixtures paid off nicely. This newly remodeled Renovision accommodated two rectangular sinks, a walk-in shower with hand-held shower, wall-mounted shower head and two soft spray body jets. The oil-rubbed bronze fixtures not only provided a luxurious spa experience, but also added warmth and softness to the vintage feel. The glass shower enclosure is trimmed in a matte black grid that boasts an industrial aesthetic with retro feel while delivering modernistic function. It’s unique in appearance while allowing the chic white subway and black and white diamond tile to peek through.
The beautifully designed cabinetry in a matte black painted finish provides plenty of storage. This smart configuration included two banks of three drawers for toiletries and accessories, two towers with adjustable shelves for towels and two ‘garage’ doors for hair dryers.
Another unique design detail to capture attention was the black and white curvy geometric floor tile which plays off the straight lines of the cabinets and square grids of the shower enclosure.
The clients are thrilled with the results and their modern, high-contrast styled digs – a true customized relaxation sanctuary for the entire family.

When Maria first reached out, she wasn’t just looking for a table, she was searching for something that could quietly transform her space. Her vision was clear yet personal: a compact piece that would fit effortlessly into her home, while still carrying a strong sense of character.
We selected premium black walnut, known for its rich tones and natural grain movement. To complement the warmth of the wood, Maria chose a deep black epoxy resin, creating a striking contrast that feels both modern and timeless. The 40-inch size makes it versatile, perfect as a cozy dining table, a creative workspace, or even a statement corner piece.
Throughout the process, we worked closely with Maria, sharing wood slab options and design updates to ensure every detail aligned with her expectations. The natural edges were preserved to celebrate the organic beauty of the walnut, while the smooth resin finish adds a refined, contemporary touch.
The final piece is more than just a table. It reflects Maria’s taste for simplicity, elegance, and authenticity, a functional artwork designed to be lived with every day.

This contemporary New York City kitchen was designed by architect Eva Bouhassira from Hastings-on-Hudson NY and the cabinets were provided by Bilotta Kitchens of NY designer Tom Vecchio. They also worked with August Construction Group of Yonkers, NY as the general contractor. The owners were looking for a decisively modern environment. While keeping the space clean and sparse, they were also searching for a good measure of warmth, creativity, uniqueness, and fun! Last, but certainly not least, the space had to withstand serious cooking and socializing - functionality was a vital part of the mix. Tom and Eva suggested Artcraft Cabinetry (Bilotta's European-styled line made in Canada) in pure white gloss, flat paneled doors and drawers with a channel system. The upper cabinets are glass fronted and framed in aluminum to make it easy to see at a glance where everything is and to show off their collection of glassware and dishes - so it appears to be a real-life, inviting space. The walnut island back panel and TV surround are custom made by MJ Woodworking and beautifully compliment the clean white gloss cabinets and panels. This walnut was repeated in many other areas of the home, tying it all beautifully together. The island seats two, which is perfect for every day snacks. One side of it has open shelves for cookbooks; the other has a waterfall edged countertop made of a blue recycled glass. The range, hood, and microwave are by Wolf, while the refrigeration is all by Sun-Zero paneled in the white gloss cabinets. The paneled dishwasher is by Miele, stainless undermount sink by Julian, custom designed by Eva, and faucet by Dornbracht. Countertop materials range from the aforementioned blue glass to stainless steel to Pure White by Caesarstone. The backsplash behind the sink is a special custom colored blue glass that up close appears to have drops of water on it. The floor is porcelain tile, Kauri from Artistic Tile .The kitchen is an U-shape and opens up to a large dining and living area with beautiful views of Manhattan’s Upper West Side. With a desire to stay close to friends and family, the owners of this 1984 home spent several years searching for property near their neighborhood to build a new, more modern, energy-conscious home tailored to their empty-nest lifestyle. They eventually concluded that their current site was the perfect location for them, but the home needed to be updated and reorganized to create fresh, open, unified spaces to comfortably welcome gatherings of family, friends, and guests.
Before renovation, the floor plan included small rooms, dedicated hallways, a step-down living room, a heavy and dark corner fireplace, and limited opportunities for natural light and visual connections from space to space. Exterior deck areas were narrow, long, and used infrequently.
Primary goals of this project included accessibility of space, more natural light, better connectivity between spaces, and a focus on sustainable performance. The updated main floor plan included the selective removal of walls to reallocate dedicated hall space to usable, open living area. The step-down living room was leveled for full accessibility, safety, furniture flexibility and overall space use. The removal of a half-height wall between the living area and the kitchen created continuity between the spaces. Reorganizing the primary entry and stair and eliminating walls between the entry and dining room created new visual connections between the kitchen and the entry. The new central concrete hearth and fireplace provides a strong, modern focal point for the living area. Large sliding glass doors on each side of the fireplace allow the TV area beyond to be separated from the living area as needed.
In several strategic locations, the footprint of the house was expanded to enhance function and flow at the kitchen, dining room, and mudroom. The new outdoor deck area is now large and singular and includes a grille area, dining space and open seating overlooking the newly landscaped pool below.
The exterior envelope of the house includes new insulation, siding, and energy-efficient windows, as well as two large roof-mounted solar arrays, to increase thermal performance and to offset energy costs. Inside, the new HVAC system maximizes energy efficiency while using a fraction of its former footprint. As a result, a portion of the former mechanical space was added back to the lower level family room area and expands into a cozy library nook.
MMA partnered with the owner’s interior designer and kitchen designer to achieve a softer, contemporary palette of finishes that complement this newly configured, light-filled home.

This beautifully designed home is located on secluded property with multiple private views of a nature preserve, yet only a short commute to downtown Minneapolis. The owners hired Jacobson Construction to update their master bathroom and the result is amazing.
The design called for a bright, warm and comfortable space, so we began with a heated floor for those cold Minnesota nights using 12” X 24” gray porcelain bath tile and neutral grout. The custom built-in walnut vanity has a satin finish with brushed nickel hardware and a green-and-gray toned granite countertop.
The vanity includes two undermounted sinks with brushed nickel Kohler faucets. Each sink has two matching sconce lights and a large mirror. One feature the owners really enjoy is the in-cabinet and in-drawer electrical outlets – perfect for keeping the counter free of things like electric toothbrushes and hair dryers. They also love the custom two-level jewelry-organizing drawer.
The bath’s centerpiece may be the white Kohler freestanding soaking tub with brushed nickel faucet, situated in front of a large window overlooking the nature preserve.
A 4’ x 4’ walk-in glass shower features dark gray 2” X 2” porcelain floor tile with neutral grout, 12” X 24” porcelain tile on the back wall, a granite corner seat to match the countertops, and brushed nickel Kohler showerhead.
The bath's walls are painted light green, with an additional white textured tile in a horizontal wave pattern that begins in the shower and extends to the wall behind the tub.
Recessed can, undercabinet toe-kick and sconce lights—all on dimmers--bring this room to life. The undercabinet lighting is wired with a motion sensor switch to function as a night light.
“Our only regret is that we didn’t take pictures of the bathroom before the remodel. It’s that much of an improvement!” The owners shared: “We're really enjoying the refreshed room. So far we’ve added a bright, colorful runner on the floor, and are in search of the perfect artwork to complement the wavy tile wall behind the tub.”

Willie & Leslie of Barrington Hills loved the location of their home. Its breathtaking views overlooked a wooded backyard and a captivating lake. They didn’t want to move, but they needed more space. But the house was missing that big family room where everyone could gather, relax and converse, and the house was completely cut off visually from the beautiful outdoor view right outside!
They knew what they wanted meant building an addition to their home. They began searching the internet and came across Advance Design Studio, and after browsing through project after project and reading one outstanding client review after another, they were sold on Advance Design. Additionally, they loved Advance Design’s “Common Sense Remodeling” process and felt confident that it would allow the Design/Build company to easily coordinate the multiple projects they wanted to complete all at one time. Willie and Leslie immediately set up a meeting with Owner Todd Jurs and Project Designer Claudia Pop. When the meeting ended, they were sure that Advance Design were the right people and the right approach for their project.
"Establishing a direction and a budget is always key in project of this size," Todd said. "This house was screaming for a family room and it didn't have one. Ultimately, it's about working together towards the same goal of a beautiful functional addition."
The project consisted of a significant family room addition with an extraordinary vaulted ceiling and floor to ceiling fireplace, a guest suite renovation with a luxury bath, a garage addition, and an adjoining outdoor patio renovation complete with a fantastic built in grilling station. The main goal was to add comfort and space to the existing home that would last their lifetime, and finally allow them to capture the amazing view of the backyard and lake that they never could really enjoy previously.
Willie, Leslie and Claudia paid special attention to designing the space to make sure that the footprint of the room did not interfere with the views. Floor to ceiling Pella windows were incorporated into a spectacular window wall to provide plenty of natural light.
Vaulted ceilings gave the room a bigger feel and the stunning floor to ceiling masonry fireplace was designed giving the room a rustic, comfortable feel of a Colorado Lodge. Barnwood doors and exposed wooden beams accentuate the crackling fireplace and family gathering space. An oversized statement chandelier bathes the space in soft light once the sun sets and compliments the exposed wood and fireplace perfectly.
“It simple elegant and beautiful,” Designer Claudia Pop said. “It is a great family room that captures the views perfectly. They love the fireplace, the barndoors and the openness of the space we designed for the whole family now to enjoy.”
And when warm weather beckons, the outdoor patio is a terrific place to spend an evening. The family now enjoys fall nights in front of their outdoor fireplace overlooking the quiet lake. Dekton Trillium Quartz counters tops adorn an amazing grilling bar. Nearly indestructible, they are the only manufactured stone product designed exclusively to withstand high heat in summer and extreme cold temperatures in winter.
The guest bath renovation makes Willie and Leslie’s friends and family feel like they are staying at a 5-star hotel. Carlisle colored Maple cabinets from Medallion make a roomy dual vanity more than adequate with plenty of space to get ready for the day after a peaceful night’s sleep. Cambria Quartz countertops are durable and elegant, while contrasting the neutral cabinets flawlessly. Heated flooring from Warmly Yours is the cherry on top for this cozy guest bath.
All the projects turned out better than they even imagined. Willie and Leslie now have a spacious family room with even better views of the lake and woods, a much larger garage, a fantastic relaxing outdoor patio, and a guest bath that makes it almost impossible to get the guest to leave after their stay.
