This coastal garden is located 4 hours north of Sydney. This garden has been an ongoing project for Secret Gardens over the last decade. The original brief was for a ‘mini botanic garden’ which proved a challenge on a site with little tree or vegetation cover and limited top soil. The plantings are 95% native, from the establishing rainforest where over 25 varieties of trees have been used to the drier areas where Callistemon, Kangaroo Paw and ornamental grasses have been used in large swathes.The result now is an established garden that will continue to evolve and provide great enjoyment for our clients.

Photography by Michael Biondo Photography ; This stunning green, contemporary home designed to nestle into its steep Westport lot by Ann Sellars and Howard Lathrop of Sellars Lathrop Architects, is beautifully crafted by Domus Constructors. Tight insulation, photovoltaic and thermal solar panels, deep overhangs and Lowen triple pane windows earned builder, Chris Shea, an outstanding 25 HERS rating. The interior boasts a magnificent free form radius staircase by New England Stair Company, which won a Special Focus Award, and the spectacular two-story library with steel catwalk (pictured) features a secret door to a spiral stair and cigar room. Other notable features include a glass walled wine room, a glass enclosed pentagon shaped sunroom and a Wetstyle tub in the spa bath.

We took this unfinished attic and turned it into a master suite full of whimsical touches. There is a round Hobbit Hole door that leads to a carpeted play room for the kids, a rope swing and 2 secret bookcases that are opened when you pull the secret Harry Potter books.

Tucked back into the hill behind the beach at Wategos Byron Bay, ‘The Wing House’ as it is known occupies a commanding position with great views out to Julian Rocks. The slope is steep and the house is positioned at the rear of the block so the garden needed to enhance the entrance experience; help absorb the house into the terrain and simplify the outlook from the house to the ocean. The structural gestures in the garden are subtle with emphasis on natural materials of local origin and plant material that was cohesive with the natural surrounds and requiring minimal maintenance.
