For the living room of this apartment located in South Beach, I combined natural woods such as the organic teak chestnut coffee table and the dining chairs with soft linens on the furnishings and natural stone marble on the tables; and vintage accessories throughout the space. It was important for me to create a small dining area, so I placed the table a bit under the staircase, accentuated by the beautiful ceiling lamp that seems to float over the table and anchors the room. The large piece of art over the couch is by New York artist, Jody Morlock. It’s called “Tonic Immobility” referring to the shark character depicted in the painting. The piece was created to incorporate all the colors (blues–magentas–purple and yellows) used throughout the apartment, and it’s the focal point in the living room. The home office has evolved into an indispensable space that seamlessly blends productivity and comfort. Tailored to the demands of remote work or personal projects, a well-designed home office often features ergonomic furniture, ample storage, and efficient technology integration. Thoughtful placement of desks and chairs enhances workflow, while strategic lighting promotes focus and reduces eye strain. The home office is not only a functional workspace but also an expression of individual style, with personalized decor and organizational elements contributing to a conducive and inspiring atmosphere. As the boundary between work and home blurs, the home office emerges as a versatile sanctuary that fosters concentration, creativity, and a harmonious work-life balance.

Brad Haines knows a thing or two about building things. The intensely creative and innovative founder of Oklahoma City-based Haines Capital is the driving force behind numerous successful companies including Bank 7 (NASDAQ BSVN), which proudly reported record year-end earnings since going public in September of last year. He has beautifully built, renovated, and personally thumb printed all of his commercial spaces and residences. “Our theory is to keep things sophisticated but comfortable,” Brad says. That’s the exact approach he took in his personal haven in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma. Painstakingly renovated over the span of two years by Candeleria Foster Design-Build of Oklahoma City, his home boasts museum-white, authentic Venetian plaster walls and ceilings; charcoal tiled flooring; imported marble in the master bath; and a pretty kitchen you’ll want to emulate. Reminiscent of an edgy luxury hotel, it is a vibe conjured by Cantoni designer Nicole George. “The new remodel plan was all about opening up the space and layering monochromatic color with lots of texture,” says Nicole, who collaborated with Brad on two previous projects. “The color palette is minimal, with charcoal, bone, amber, stone, linen and leather.” “Sophisticated“Sophisticated“Sophisticated“Sophisticated“Sophisticated Nicole helped oversee space planning and selection of interior finishes, lighting, furnishings and fine art for the entire 7,000-square-foot home. It is now decked top-to-bottom in pieces sourced from Cantoni, beginning with the custom-ordered console at entry and a pair of Glacier Suspension fixtures over the stairwell. “Every angle in the house is the result of a critical thought process,” Nicole says. “We wanted to make sure each room would be purposeful.” To that end, “we reintroduced the ‘parlor,’ and also redefined the formal dining area as a bar and drink lounge with enough space for 10 guests to comfortably dine,” Nicole says. Brad’s parlor holds the Swing sectional customized in a silky, soft-hand charcoal leather crafted by prominent Italian leather furnishings company Gamma. Nicole paired it with the Kate swivel chair customized in a light grey leather, the sleek DK writing desk, and the Black & More bar cabinet by Malerba. “Nicole has a special design talent and adapts quickly to what we expect and like,” Brad says. To create the restaurant-worthy dining space, Nicole brought in a black-satin glass and marble-topped dining table and mohair-velvet chairs, all by Italian maker Gallotti & Radice. Guests can take a post-dinner respite on the adjoining room’s Aston sectional by Gamma. In the formal living room, Nicole paired Cantoni’s Fashion Affair club chairs with the Black & More cocktail table, and sofas sourced from Désirée, an Italian furniture upholstery company that creates cutting-edge yet comfortable pieces. The color-coordinating kitchen and breakfast area, meanwhile, hold a set of Guapa counter stools in ash grey leather, and the Ray dining table with light-grey leather Cattelan Italia chairs. The expansive loggia also is ideal for entertaining and lounging with the Versa grand sectional, the Ido cocktail table in grey aged walnut and Dolly chairs customized in black nubuck leather. Nicole made most of the design decisions, but, “she took my suggestions seriously and then put me in my place,” Brad says. She had the master bedroom’s Marlon bed by Gamma customized in a remarkably soft black leather with a matching stitch and paired it with onyx gloss Black & More nightstands. “The furnishings absolutely complement the style,” Brad says. “They are high-quality and have a modern flair, but at the end of the day, are still comfortable and user-friendly.” The end result is a home Brad not only enjoys, but one that Nicole also finds exceptional. “I honestly love every part of this house,” Nicole says. “Working with Brad is always an adventure but a privilege that I take very seriously, from the beginning of the design process to installation.”

This entertainment center was designed and built for a family in McLean Virginia, who wanted their previously unused basement to turn into a classy and impressive home theater for watching movies and sporting events with family and friends.

After remodeling and living in a 1920s Colonial for years, creative consultant and editor Michelle Adams set out on a new project: the complete renovation of a new mid-century modern home. Though big on character and open space, the house needed work—especially in terms of functional storage in the master bedroom. Wanting a solution that neatly organized and hid everything from sight while staying true to the home’s aesthetic, Michelle called California Closets Michigan to create a custom design that achieved the style and functionality she desired. Michelle started the process by sharing an inspiration photo with design consultant Janice Fisher, which highlighted her vision for long, clean lines and feature lighting. Janice translated this desire into a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling custom unit that stored Michelle’s wardrobe to a T. Multiple hanging sections of varying heights corral dresses, skirts, shirts, and pants, while pull-out shoe shelves keep her collection protected and accessible. In the center, drawers provide concealed storage, and shelves above offer a chic display space. Custom lighting throughout spotlights her entire wardrobe. A streamlined storage solution that blends seamlessly with her home’s mid-century style. Plus, push-to-open doors remove the need for handles, resulting into a clean-lined solution from inside to out.

My clients had outgrown their builder’s basic home and had plenty of room to expand on their 10 acres. Working with a local architect and a talented contractor, we designed an addition to create 3 new bedrooms, a bathroom scaled for all 3 girls, a playroom and a master retreat including 3 fireplaces, sauna, steam shower, office or “creative room”, and large bedroom with folding glass wall to capitalize on their view. The master suite, gym, pool and tennis courts are still under construction, but the girls’ suite and living room space are complete and dust free. Each child’s room was designed around their preference of color scheme and each girl has a unique feature that makes their room truly their own. The oldest daughter has a secret passage hidden behind what looks like built in cabinetry. The youngest daughter wanted to “swing”, so we outfitted her with a hanging bed set in front of a custom mural created by a Spanish artist. The middle daughter is an elite gymnast, so we added monkey bars so she can cruise her room in style. The girls’ bathroom suite has 3 identical “stations” with abundant storage. Cabinetry in black walnut and peacock blue and white quartz counters with white marble backsplash are durable and beautiful. Two shower stalls, designed with a colorful and intricate tile design, prevent bathroom wait times and a custom wall mural brings a little of the outdoors in. Much of today’s remodeling design ethos centers around complete transformation. And while that’s often necessary if a home requires it, Mahony’s approach to this luxury home remodel followed a more conservative and established set of design principles that still left room for lots of creativity. There’s a lot to love about this historic Tudor’s original 1937 exterior — he simply removed the features that didn’t serve the design to let it shine. In fact, most of the home’s original elevations were kept intact. Dormers were also kept and refreshed, and chimneys were repaired or re-created down to the flue tile. Interestingly, various colors of brick were discovered during construction, leading us to believe the painted brick dates back to the original design.
