Often considered unusable, wasted space, the hillsides of many southern California homes are considered, at best, as an afterthought in landscape planning. With creativity and craftsmanship, however, we can transform any hill into something usable, and with foliage we can make it a visual destination in itself. This massive back slope was re-formed from a steep, overgrown hill into a series of terraced gardens. Access upslope is through a grand yet informal set of outdoor wooden steps bound on each side by a pair of three symmetrical cascades of semi-circular, flowing retaining walls. The homeowner requested that the foliage be drought-tolerant, and that is exactly what we delivered. From wasted space to best of show.

The Piotrowski Residence is a prime example of creative site design and its influence on home design. The home features a split level layout with front facing walk-out so one can drive up and not have the view of the lake be blocked by the house. What more can you ask for when working with lovely clients to transform their master bathroom into a luxurious spa-like setting. With the expertise of CairnsCraft Design & Remodel, the design became a reality. INVESTER creative Inc. photographed the fine details. We removed dark cabinets, dark tile, dark granite, a built-in tub, lightened the walls. added tile wainscoting, crown molding, recessed lighting,sconces, and transformed the space into a light and airy space for the clients to relax and enjoy. The vanity cabinet with legs, white Quartz, decorative sconces, marble like tiles, free standing bathtub and white & chrome fixtures are beautiful accents to showcase the grace and elegance of this bathroom.

This extensive remodel overlooking Lake Austin is a paean to the powerful art it enfolds. Rigorous editing of every distracting, inconsequential element of the original house was critical. So too was the insertion of new complementary components that provide artful ways to move through both interior and exterior rooms. The collection of modern art is arresting. Ranging from a Turrell hologram to a pair of Agnes Martins, the art is framed by the architecture and lighting so that it is experienced in a choreographed, curated way that encourages wandering and an intimate connection to each piece. The mood is set in the entry courtyard. A floating walkway curves down and around a brilliant spiraling blue Clement sculpture. It pauses once, at a moment of surprise, when the first view through the house is filled with the blue water of the lake beyond.
