Goals
Our clients desired to simply update their home with a modern, open feel while adding more natural light to the space.
Our Design Solution
By taking down the wall between the dining room and living room and adding a bump out in the kitchen, the space opened up dramatically and the room was flooded with natural light. In addition to replacing the kitchen cabinets and counters, we added a long horizontal window to give a unique modern element as well as let more light in.

This 1990's home, located in North Vancouver's Lynn Valley neighbourhood, had high ceilings and a great open plan layout but the decor was straight out of the 90's complete with sponge painted walls in dark earth tones. The owners, a young professional couple, enlisted our help to take it from dated and dreary to modern and bright. We started by removing details like chair rails and crown mouldings, that did not suit the modern architectural lines of the home. We replaced the heavily worn wood floors with a new high end, light coloured, wood-look laminate that will withstand the wear and tear from their two energetic golden retrievers. Since the main living space is completely open plan it was important that we work with simple consistent finishes for a clean modern look. The all white kitchen features flat doors with minimal hardware and a solid surface marble-look countertop and backsplash. We modernized all of the lighting and updated the bathrooms and master bedroom as well. The only departure from our clean modern scheme is found in the dressing room where the client was looking for a more dressed up feminine feel but we kept a thread of grey consistent even in this more vivid colour scheme. This transformation, featuring the clients' gorgeous original artwork and new custom designed furnishings is admittedly one of our favourite projects to date!

This was an historic cottage with a small bathroom on the lower level. The existing tile was in good shape, but had a hunter green dot in the floor tile and a green rope tile in the shower. The design plan was to simply re-tile the floor, remove and change out only the deco portion in the shower, repaint the vanity, install a new countertop and replace the faucet and toilet. A black pebble was installed on the shower floor. We also added new black baseboards and crown moulding. Making the renovation cost effective while achieving a dramatic new look. The wall color is Universal Khaki by Sherwin-Williams.

Before we redesigned the basement of this charming but compact 1950's North Vancouver home, this space was an unfinished utility room that housed nothing more than an outdated furnace and hot water tank. Since space was at a premium we recommended replacing the furnace with a high efficiency model and converting the hot water tank to an on-demand system, both of which could be housed in the adjacent crawl space. That left room for a generous laundry room conveniently located at the back entrance of the house where family members returning from a mountain bike ride can undress, drop muddy clothes into the washing machine and proceed to shower in the bathroom just across the hall. This spacious home in North Vancouver's Deep Cove community had been built and decorated just over 20 years ago and was in need of updating. Our clients who are empty nesters, spend much of their time in the kitchen and family room so we focused on these spaces keeping in mind that the more formal spaces on the main floor will follow in a few years time. For the most part the layout of their kitchen worked well for them so our role was to tweak the kitchen and family room furniture layout and to select updated finishes and furnishings. Since this home transformation is not happening all at once, we purposefully selected classic finishes, like antique brass hardware, that will tie in with the rest of the home's decor until it can be updated. The resulting refresh stays true to the original feel of the house while giving it a clean, updated look.

This spacious primary bathroom transformed from drab and dark to a refreshed, bright bathroom. Simply removing the dropped ceiling and fluorescent lights from the vanity area and replacing them with modern recessed can light brought this bathroom back to life. The carpet that once draped the floor was replaced by a gray wood-like vinyl plank which transitioned beautifully to the calcatta tiled shower. The dated vanity that once housed two sinks was updated to white custom-made cabinetry topped with a white with subtle veining Arabescato quartz countertop. A linen closet replaced the second vanity sink, providing ample storage space. Polished nickel finishes repeat about from the Hydrorail shower fixtures to the sink faucets. Two contemporary sconce lights a stylish mirror balance and adorns the focal wall. To create harmony within the bathroom and the rest of the house, we kept contrast to a minimum, using hints of color to create accents.

In this project, the use of integrated appliances adds to the visual and versatility of the kitchen. Double-drawer dishwasher eliminates energy-wasting half loads. Bonus: when entertaining, fill top draw with ice… presto, an insulated cooler that’s emptied by simply closing and hitting the “Drain” button. Space-hogging, side-by-side fridge replaced with taller, integrated unit more suitably proportioned to the space and client’s active, social lifestyle.

The decision to keep the original cabinet boxes meant simply replacing the cabinet drawers and drawer fronts for a refreshing transformation. The porcelain tile floor has the unmistakable look of brick without the struggle to keep it clean. New appliances, stylish range hood, and a new cabinet box for the refrigerator. A custom island located in the original dining nook satisfies the client's number one request, providing a place to drink wine and make cookies.
